For when the first thread is full. I may be watching but won't be posting because I won't have access to a computer and I need the speed of a keyboard to get my opinion out there before I forget what it is.

Poor Kit. He was the right person to go , but it's awful when someone so competent had a bad week so close to the final.

The winner is hard to call , but I've had my eye on Yasmin since the early weeks. She reminds me of so many previous winners that have been quietly working hard all along.

1920s week was a good one , but all themes have been fun this series. The quality of the sewists has definitely helped make it all more watchable.

Just because other people share your nasty opinion doesn't make that opinion a "truth" nor stop it being nasty.

In your opinion.

I reported the post. It was homophobic. Take it up with HQ instead of arguing here.

Arguing here? I’m not arguing with anyone. I replied to a poster who commented on my now deleted post. I was being polite, I didn’t want them to think I was ignoring them.

I posted, you and probably some others complained about the post and it was deleted. It’s really not the big deal you would like to think it is and I’m quite happy to accept the mods decision. End of.

So just what would you like me to take up with MNHQ?

LittleBitofBread · 11/09/2025 11:18

I was a bit surprised that Kit went as well, but his made to measure was really poor and bodged.
Also felt he was being arrogant about how he knew how to make a pair of trousers; they definitely edited that to make clear that he was going to go this week!
Yasmin has been the dark horse and may be peaking at the right time. She really does her research and thinks about the whole context of the things she makes. I also like Caz and her slightly more seat of the pants and creative approach, though, and I still really love Órla. Her made to measure was terrific, I thought; everything about it screamed 1920s.
I'd be happy to see any of them win, depending on what they do on the day.

MrsSpendTooMuch · 11/09/2025 11:38

I think the standard has been really good this year and all the finalists are great, any of them could win. I really like Caz but I don’t always like the garments she makes. Yasmin’s garments are usually more my style and I like the way she researches what she makes. Orla is really creative and I liked her backstory for the horror doll in movie week and the flapper voting for the first time this week.

I wouldn't judge anyone harshly based on what's shown in an edited TV programme where 2 days are condensed into 1 hour. Kit (and any of the other contestants) could be the kind of person who's cheerful and happy to help others at some points and grumpy and stressed at other points when things aren't going well under pressure. If somebody filmed me for 2 days they could edit me into a calm, capable professional or an irritable, disorganised numpty who swears at her computer all the time. I did think Kit would be in the final but he had a bad week and maybe his lack of experience let him down with a poor fabric choice for the plus fours and trying to do too much in the made to measure this week.

CaptainMyCaptain · 11/09/2025 11:40

Weepixie · 11/09/2025 03:53

It wasn’t. It was the truth for many people and the post being removed doesn’t make it not true.

Kit had an agenda on the show and was loving the spotlight too much. It became way bigger than the real reason they’re all there and cost him his place in the finals.

I disagree and comments like that are spoiling a nice thread about sewing.

OrangeAndPistachio · 11/09/2025 12:04

This isn't directed at anyone in particular on this thread , but I feel it's relevant. A couple of years ago I recall Asmaa saying on Instagram that she was upset about some personal comments made about her online. Brogan also said the same.

With this in mind , can we all try to remember that the sewing bee contestants are real people with feelings. They're not celebs , they're not media trained in any way. They could be potentially hurt by throwaway comments made.

CaptainMyCaptain · 11/09/2025 12:06

Well said @OrangeAndPistachio

However they made a choice to enter a competition on national television. Anyone who does that has to be aware that in the age of social media they are opening themselves up to potential comments, good and bad, which may upset them or their families, it goes with the territory. If you're not prepared to accept that possibility then don't voluntarily put yourself on a TV programme.

We’re both entitled to our opinions and the discussion had reached the stage of Kit having to leave the show and why it had happened - my opinion is that he’d forgotten why he was there and it had become about him rather than his sewing. He was probably quite enjoying the attention, perhaps even had dreams of more tv appearances, and it was his downfall. He took his eye off the prize.

OrangeAndPistachio · 11/09/2025 12:36

@Buxusmortus of course.

Though I think it's a good idea to consider whether we'd be happy to read such comments about our son/daughter/friend etc before we make them.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 11/09/2025 12:44

I loved the 1920s theme and Yasmin thoroughly deserved GOTW. When it's this close to the final, everyone is good, but it's a shame that an off week costs you a place in the final. Kit was definitely the right one to go though.

Cello60 · 11/09/2025 13:01

I did wonder if Kit suddenly got really anxious and there was a degree of unconscious self sabotage there.

ApisMellifera · 11/09/2025 13:43

I thought Kit was an amazing sewer. Am I right in thinking that he only took up sewing a few years ago? He had great technical ability as demonstrated by his winning so many pattern challenges. He was often top or towards the top of the transformation/ M2M challenges too. He sometimes didn't come across too well on TV (shy, neuro diverse or just a bit anxious and socially awkward - it's really doesn't matter) but he totally deserved his spot on the show and to get as far as he did. He really is very talented and some of the unpleasant comments about him on here are really unkind to a real person with some flaws just like the rest of us.

However I am delighted with the final three and would be happy for any of them to win. I'm just so pleased after the shockingly poor standard of sewing last year when the producers and judges really did seem to favour big/ wacky/ out there characters over skill and technique.

I do fancy Caz for the win as she has so much experience and flair. But it's anyone's game. I'm looking forward to the final and I'll miss it when it's over.

In the pandemic, I think, unless I'm confusing him with someone else.

I don't know. He said a few times that he'd made a mistake or something but then said "it'll be fine", when he must have known Patrick and Esme well enough by then to know that it wouldn't be.

I just knew he wouldn't win though - the people shown to be the best in the early episodes never end up winning. Same with Bake Off and other competitions too.

I thought they said he started last year in epsoside one.

He has a maths degree which I think may be why he does the self drafting and is good at pattern challenges.

Yes, I may be confusing the pandemic thing with someone else, possibly in the Bake Off! Grin

I am not going to repeat the comment you made but it is certainly being selectively taken out of your defence of your viewpoint.

I was actually something I said people sometimes say about gay people in a previous post, ironically. No one had actually said it out loud yet and then you did.

You seemed annoyed at being challenged so I just thought it only fair to clarify what the deletion was about.

WhenIwasyoungersomuchyounger · 11/09/2025 16:12

I didn't realise that Sara Pascoe was leaving?

Just saw on the BBC that Sophie Willan is the new host! (From Alma's Not Normal)

Me either! Isn't this her first season back after maternity leave?
I've no idea who Sophie Willan is. Never see Alma's Not Normal and don't know her face.
I'd like Kiell back.
I mean, in an ideal world I'd like Claudia back, but if wishes were horses...

Please feel free to repeat it.

Am I annoyed at being challenged. No. I’m certainly not and it’s very obvious that’s wishful thinking on your part. The reality is that my post being deleted is a bigger deal in your head than it is in mine. I said something that was said to be offensive, I was pulled up on it by MNHQ - end of.

Piggywaspushed · 11/09/2025 16:25

No thanks!

It existed. Please don't try and suggest otherwise because otherwise the post wouldn't have been deleted.

No thanks what?

of course the post existed - how else could it have been deleted if it didn’t exist.

Again, it’s you that seems to want me to be upset the post was deleted, and that I’m upset it was. I’m not.

So just for you again - I posted something that was deemed to be offensive and I’m happy to accept that it was in the eyes of others including MNHQ.

Just what more do you want? Because I tell you now, I’m not going round in circles with you anymore and neither am I sorry that I’m not as upset or bothered by the deletion as you want me to be.

WonderfulSmith · 11/09/2025 16:37

I love Sophie Willan. I too would like Kiel back though.
