For when the first thread is full. I may be watching but won't be posting because I won't have access to a computer and I need the speed of a keyboard to get my opinion out there before I forget what it is.

You invited me to repeat the comment and I don't want to.

I don't want to argue at all.

ItsmeMargo · 11/09/2025 16:38

I’ve only just caught up, and must admit I was really shocked to see Kit go!

I thought Kit and Caz were nailed on from about week three … But Orla and Yas have been there in the background, quietly working away… it’s like they were always talented, but they have now caught up. And occasionally excelling.

When I saw what they were all doing for the M2M, I couldn’t believe that Yasmin was using cotton, Rather than silk/chiffon/sequins, beads etc. I thought she’d made a huge mistake: but she knocked out of the park! It was so 1920s, so original. Loved the story behind it, too.

Kit and Caz, probably the best two from the beginning, were clearly in the bottom two this week. I honestly thought it was going to be one of those things where the judges said, Oh we can’t choose between you, so we’re having four people in the final.

Weepixie · 11/09/2025 16:45

@Piggywaspushed I invited you to repeat the comment after you said the following

I am not going to repeat the comment you made but it is certainly being selectively taken out of your defence of your viewpoint

I said what I did and since then I’ve put it in different language to get my point across - nothing has been selectively taken out. Or do you say that to everyone who’s had a post removed and tries to rephrase it going forward?

You don’t want to argue at all? Really? Well, you could have fooled me.

Piggywaspushed · 11/09/2025 16:50

OK, many people know the comment that has ramming camp throat and gay in a different order.

Hope that clarifies.

Over and out.

Me either! Isn't this her first season back after maternity leave?
I've no idea who Sophie Willan is. Never see Alma's Not Normal and don't know her face.
I'd like Kiell back.
I mean, in an ideal world I'd like Claudia back, but if wishes were horses...

I only knew Sophie Willan from Taskmaster but if you saw Ludwig, she was in that, only with dark hair instead of the usual red.

She should be fun.

No, I didn't. I'll be interested to see what she's like.

I would love Claudia back but I do like Sophie Willan's persona, she was great on Taskmaster although I thought that Alma's Not Normal was very bleak.

Hopefully the producers can rethink the god awful 'comedy' skits while they're at it.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 11/09/2025 17:20

I can't picture Sophie Willan but I did watch Ludwig so I'll look her up. I have to say Sara hasn't been my favourite host, but I think that's partly down to what the producers probably ask her to do. I will never get why the show (and Bake Off) think the audience enjoys the silly skit at the beginning. Everyone I know, including me, finds them toe curling.

2Rebecca · 11/09/2025 17:34

I think they should ditch the comedy host/ hostess role. If you are sewing something complex to a schedule you don’t want someone distracting you with silly comments

Claudia was good at entertaining the viewer while also saying genuinely supportive things to the contestants.
Sara tries too hard to be 'funny'. I enjoyed how Novello didn't even pretend not to be annoyed by her.

CorrectionCentre · 11/09/2025 18:16

Sophie Willan is funny and talented and I liked her on Taskmaster. I'm struggling to imagine her in the sewing bee though.
Obviously I'll reserve judgement because I've never seen her in a 'presenter' role. My worry is that she's a "big' personality.

I'd happily see Kiell back. He didn't overshadow the contestants. It felt like he was being himself more than Sara Pascoe is.

nonumbersinthisname · 11/09/2025 18:20

Bake off have currently got the presenter personality balance right (imho), with Alison in particular being supportive of the bakers while also bringing humour. I think her own experience in reality TV helps because she understands the pressure.

Claudia was excellent and also showed the same humanity towards the contestants but GBSB was also different programme in those days. After Claudia I think Kiell was best.

LimpingPheasant · 11/09/2025 18:33

I would absolutely love Joe to come back, but that's not going to happen.

I'll never forget an utterly filthy comment he made, completely deadpan, about the importance of "good boning" 😳

Ooh! Which series and episode?😄

LimpingPheasant · 11/09/2025 19:28

Afraid I can't remember @cello60, but presumably one on the theme of underwear or corsetry. Do let me know if you find it 😂

Some people on this thread would have a fit of the vapours.

MoltenLasagne · 11/09/2025 21:21

Just watched it on catch up and I am so surprised that Kit went. I was not expecting that at all before today, but it was obviously the right choice.

I think the quality of all the sewers this year has been fantastic. They really seem to have got the balance right between good sewers with a balance of backgrounds and also not having completely ridiculous time constraints.

I also massively disagree that contestants should expect to see negative comments about themselves just because they've signed up to go on a tv show.

WhenIwasyoungersomuchyounger · 11/09/2025 16:12

I didn't realise that Sara Pascoe was leaving?

Just saw on the BBC that Sophie Willan is the new host! (From Alma's Not Normal)

I didn’t know Sara was leaving. I’d love it if Claudia came back, I think she was my favourite presenter, but I really liked Kiell too.

Prestissimo · 12/09/2025 08:39

<delurks>

My brother knows Sophie. I’ve asked him to let her know the sketches aren’t funny, and can she either write them herself so that they are, or get them ditched 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I love Sophie Willan and Alma's Not Normal was just brilliant, I have high hopes.

I normally cringe at the sketches but actually quite liked the 1920s silent movie.

I think the comedy stuff is just annoying if you're a serious sewer (or baker), but surely it must appeal to some part of the audience? They will do focus groups and research, maybe it draws in some casual viewers?
