I like Suranne Jones as an actress but I just can’t see past the Bridget Phillippson / Rachel Reeves style pelmet. (Sorry)

OP posts:

God is 46 year old surrane jones a “woman of a certain age”? That phrase should be bloody banned.

the80sweregreat · 25/08/2025 14:32

:( for ‘ women of a certain age’ wouid they have written the same for men that age too? Of course not!!
Both ladies looked fabulous.

TheLudditesWereRight · 26/08/2025 18:33

This was ridiculous. If I'd been the French president I'd have claimed it was a deepfake and brazened it out.

Also who else were they going to give it to - women in their 20s? 46 is young for a PM as it is

and in their ludicrous plot it only works if they are women because let’s face it, a man would have been judged very differently in the hostage situation and a male leader being caught in bed with his stepdaughter would probably be considered less scandalous

the80sweregreat · 26/08/2025 18:52

Yep, the French PM as a man with his step daughter, nobody would be raising their eyebrows at that!

the80sweregreat · 26/08/2025 18:53

.. hey , as long as she was the age of consent etc etc of course , forgot that bit.

hb1502 · 26/08/2025 19:32

The french president 's husband is french so how come the son has english accent.. daughter looks about 24 it is all so badly done

Itsnottheheatitsthehumidity · 26/08/2025 19:36

It was a mixed up confusing mess. I watched all of it, to see if it would get better. It didn’t.

Bruisername · 26/08/2025 19:41

DS lasted longer than me but turned off once he found out the head guys motive

BoilingHotand50something · 26/08/2025 19:46

I really enjoyed it!

I mean, the kid could have lived with his mum in England. That's not that implausible.

No spoilers here - but the one thing the series seemed to lack was any of the Intelligence agencies, UK Special Forces, or any basic security around world leaders.

We were just saying this. It was almost as if they went ‘well Slow Horses will be on in a few weeks, they probably don’t need that much MI5’ 😂

Bruisername · 26/08/2025 20:27

I found the son having an English accent distracting tbh and weird. He didn’t need a strong accent but a gentle one would have been much more believable

the only mi6 person was the guy rescuing the hostages

FurForksSake · 26/08/2025 20:29

We assumed step son had an English mother hence living in England and having an English accent etc.

Rescuing?

Was that his grand plan?

RedRiverShore5 · 26/08/2025 20:36

I watched one episode but have now gone back to watching 'Criminal Minds', I may manage a bit more tomorrow, it was ok but not that riveting.

PurpleLeather · 26/08/2025 20:38

I’m really enjoying it, love Suranne Jones and it doesn’t disappoint. Binged most of it over the weekend and watching last episode tonight x

RedRiverShore5 · 26/08/2025 20:41

It didn't seem as good as 'The Diplomat' which I guess is a similar type of series

I’m not sure anyone had a plan!! Not even the baddies really

FurForksSake · 26/08/2025 20:44

The assassin over on prime with keely hawes is worth a watch when you’ve finished! But we enjoyed this and probably have bad taste 😆

I thought the exact same!! AI is your friend in a situation such as this. I didn't actually even recognise it was her in the clip at first.

Yes and he seemed to hate his father so seemed likely English mother brought up in England. He was after all living in England too.

you see I see it more that he hates his father because he’s grown up with him! Probably helped into the best French schools and even with an English mother he would have been brought up in France for the finances. And even with an English mother and an expensive education his accent just wasn’t right. Plus his interest in French politics seems very much a homeland interest.

SabreIsMyFave · 26/08/2025 21:06

Meh, it's OK. 5 out of 10 IMO. OK/watchable, but not brilliant. I have watched 3 episodes now. Guess I will watch the other episodes. May as well as there's only 2 left!

I have to admit though, as a few posters have said, it's not a very good representation(s) of female leaders!

I enjoyed this as an entertaining drama, was expecting it to be a more intelligent though.
