Where There's Cake, There's Hope...Bake Off 25

The new series starts on Tuesday 2nd September and the bakers have been named. A few weeks earlier than recent seasons, so taking us nicely from late summer through to the cosiness of autumn.

No change to the team of Paul, Prue, Noel and Alison, which I thought worked well last year - it was a warmer and kinder programme than it has been for a few years.

The usual eclectic mix of contestants, but less of an age spread than some years - a lot of 30 somethings, no-one under 20 or over 60.

Anyone else excited for this season?

Tom doesn’t like any criticism does he?

I don't like him either but, in fairness, not many of us like being criticised!

CrushingOnRubies · 21/10/2025 20:25

Tom looks like a baddie in a Japanese anime cartoon from the 90s/ early 00s. He was a cool blonde English chap. Cant remember the name of the cartoon for the life of me

That is true but he could take it better on national tv lol

Not2identifying · 21/10/2025 20:26

I love steamed puddings but I don't think I'd fancy cardamom flavoured.

Wolbutter · 21/10/2025 20:29

I want the recipe for these orange puddings.. they sound lovely

Florencesndzebedee · 21/10/2025 20:29

I think Iain is panicking a bit and not paying attention to the finer detail.

littlbrowndog · 21/10/2025 20:30

Is it like an orange st clement pudding. Though I think there is a whole orange in the middle of the pudding

Tom is the smuggest contestant I can remember. I usually have preferences but I can’t remember longing for someone to go out before. That black cheesecake was a monstrosity - certainly not appetising and you lose the “burned” top effect. I agree with pp - its one of those simple, classic dishes much better not mucked about with or used as a vehicle for food colouring.

Iain is looking vulnerable this week.

Not2identifying · 21/10/2025 20:37

I did like Iain's pith joking around. I agree with Jasmine, it's all going to come down to the showstopper.

FawnDrench · 21/10/2025 20:43

Oooh trifle!
And 4.5 hours - should get some spectacular creations this evening.

littlbrowndog · 21/10/2025 20:43

Oh no gelatine everywhere

CrushingOnRubies · 21/10/2025 20:44

Never heard of cremé de figue before

not a massive trifle fan. My dad always says that it “slips down nicely” anytime we eat it and it always makes me feel a bit 🤢 when he says it. So now he says it more to wind me up

JewelleryCat · 21/10/2025 20:46

The word trifle is now sounding weird to me because everyone is saying it so much

lettingthedaysgoby · 21/10/2025 20:46

Proper trifle does not have jelly involved... this is a hill I will die on.

The technical recipes usually go on the GBBO website the next day, make sure you show us a picture when you've made them!

I love a trifle but surely should be in a glass bowl.

Also, I don't mind Tom. I think he might just be extra posh and a bit self conscious

GetSetFake · 21/10/2025 20:47

Jasmine's design looks beautiful.

Surely it's the law that trifle is packet jelly, cold birds custard, tinned fruit, packet trifle sponges, dream topping and sprinkles?

I'd like a chocolate orange trifle. Looking forward to seeing these.

Cheap jam swiss roll was the preferred alternative to trifle sponges in our household. Otherwise, yes. (I hate trifle, but some of tonight's concoctions sound almost edible.)

Arrrgghhh! 1970s family meal flashbacks!

Not2identifying · 21/10/2025 20:53

Did he say olives?! Is Tom really putting olives in his trifle?

Florencesndzebedee · 21/10/2025 20:54

Jasmines is truly magnificent.
Poor Toby, having a ‘mare.

lettingthedaysgoby · 21/10/2025 20:55

Jasmine's looks absolutely delicious.

lettingthedaysgoby · 21/10/2025 20:56

Toby or Iain to go I think.
