The new series starts on Tuesday 2nd September and the bakers have been named. A few weeks earlier than recent seasons, so taking us nicely from late summer through to the cosiness of autumn.

No change to the team of Paul, Prue, Noel and Alison, which I thought worked well last year - it was a warmer and kinder programme than it has been for a few years.

The usual eclectic mix of contestants, but less of an age spread than some years - a lot of 30 somethings, no-one under 20 or over 60.

Anyone else excited for this season?

I love Aaron’s piano. He is the one who consistently gets the best comments for flavour. I’d love to see him get star baker one week

Yeah, I was hoping Aaron might win this week but with two other bakers getting handshakes, it seems unlikely.

Nadia might get away with it, Toby's feedback was brutal.

Yes, Nadia tempered the chocolate well, didn't she? Given that it's the chocolate round, that might make all the difference.

I assumed Nadia until Toby came up with his showstopper.

Someone tell Toby how to say Graham! I'm amazed no one has passive aggressively corrected him.

I agree, I wasn't saying it was a bad brief and what they've done is amazing. I just wasn't sure what they'd been asked to do.

Unless you mean that he should say 'digestive'. Graham crackers are American, aren't they?

I'm hoping Aaron will be a late bloomer and nudge past them to ace the final!

Nice to have a chocolate week that wasn’t boiling hot with everything melting all the time.

Fair decision but Toby was very lucky there.
