Where There's Cake, There's Hope...Bake Off 25

The new series starts on Tuesday 2nd September and the bakers have been named. A few weeks earlier than recent seasons, so taking us nicely from late summer through to the cosiness of autumn.

No change to the team of Paul, Prue, Noel and Alison, which I thought worked well last year - it was a warmer and kinder programme than it has been for a few years.

The usual eclectic mix of contestants, but less of an age spread than some years - a lot of 30 somethings, no-one under 20 or over 60.

Anyone else excited for this season?

Am finding Trust-fund Tom really annoying with his endless Danish granny who by the sounds of it actually owned Iceland and his annoyingly good bakes meaning he'll make it long into the competition.

The rest of them seem nice enough at least

endless Danish granny who by the sounds of it actually owned Iceland
'endless Danish granny' has made me snort, but I have to ask: where did you get that she owned Iceland? Did I miss a bit?

LittleBitofBread · 26/09/2025 09:56

I'm sorry to see Jessika go. I liked her as a personality, and her baking.
Jasmine has slight head girl vibes but she is really excellent.
I liked Tom's coconut shy and I don't find him as annoying as others on here do.
Surprised at Iain making the weird decision to include so much plastic in his show-stopper; he usually tries so hard.
Aaron continues to charm me.
Lesley is quietly competent and I like her humour.
Nadia is a bit up and down. I like her but I think she'll go soon.
Nataliia is also inconsistent. I hope she raises her game and stays for a while.
Toby was good this week. I liked his flapjack idea. He is a bit east London hipster and slightly annoying though; I heard him call his flapjacks 'flappy js' at one point <<slaps him upside the head>>

I missed that too, and I'm not sure if it's referring to Iceland the country or Iceland the shop 🤔 (neither of which make sense to me).

I didn't hear it, but 'flappy j's' should be grounds for instant dismissal.

I thought the Danes owned Greenland.

Ah, that would make more sense in the context.

No I'm exaggerating, it was the country palace cottage in Denmark followed by every summer in Iceland and yes I forgot it was Greenland which Denmark owned and not Iceland!

Head Girl vibes - I thought there was a bit of a high school vibe generally with Tom, Jessika and Jasmine being the effortlessly confident cool kids, and Aaon, Toby and Iain being a bit more normal/self effacing. And the rest being the grown ups! Though some people do have that overconfident private school aura but are actually not at all like that when you get to know them.

And yes, Flappy Js was shockingly bad, we shouted at the telly.

I have a feeling Jessika was not cool at school, and possibly got bullied/ostracised, as she may well have been too tall too soon, and a bit unconventional-looking. She acquired a bit of a thousand-yard stare when she was thinking about her schooldays on the latest episode!

Yes, that's true - well remembered.

FYI Dylan got a job at Five Fields a fabulous Michelin-starred restaurant. We went there for my birthday, somewhat because DD was hoping to see him. Sad to say he didn’t even sign my birthday card with the rest of the staff. Unfortunately it shut for good soon thereafter. I’ve heard he’s ended up at Petrus, another amazing Michelin starred restaurant (again didn’t see him when we went for DD’s graduation)

They used to own Iceland as well.

Came across Rowan from a previous series on Instagram. enjoyed some good recent video shorts of him making an ambitious wedding cake - with some mishaps! -and a spiced autumnal one.

Jessika's exit note suggests she isn't as confident as she looks even now. I felt that her, Jasmine and Tom all came over as really comfortable on camera in a way the others didn't. But sounds like she was actually fighting the self doubt all the way through.

She seemed very calm and confident on Extra Slice.

School Cake! Should have taken a bit more care with piping my sprinkles, they were not very uniform. Tasty though.

Looking forward to Chocolate Week.

I'm looking forward to chocolate mousse cups! Might inspire me..

Great job, @GetSetFake! Love that jug of custard there as well.

Chocolate mousse cups with a baked element sounds delicious.

Pancakeflipper · 30/09/2025 20:04

@GetSetFake I love school cake. Such a comfort food.

Not2identifying · 30/09/2025 20:06

I love chocolate orange but putting it with an earl grey sponge is a bit...😝

GetSetFake · 30/09/2025 20:08

Nadia and Lesley have both pluralised themselves tonight. "We're going to...." Not as bad as third personing yourself but a bit odd or is it just me?
