Loved Knives Out and the other one.
Love anything Agatha Christie.

We enjoyed Death Valley, which I think has a similar vibe

KateMiskin · 16/08/2025 08:17

Only Murders in the Building.

Magicmagician · 16/08/2025 08:18

Ludwig was good , was on BBC

Viot · 16/08/2025 08:20

Death Valley - will look it up. Thank you.

OMITB - yes, it was fun.

Ludwig - agree, was good.

Poker face - bit of a twist on the usual formula, quirky and we loved it!

Gall10 · 16/08/2025 08:24

Boat Story (not about the obvious)
really good quirky/offbeat series
Adam Gillen who played Liam in Benidorm (!) plays a totally different role and main star is Adrien Lester.

Mrsmunchofmunchington · 16/08/2025 08:25

What about Jack Irish?
There are three films plus a series. I loved them all. Currently available on channel 4.

efeslight · 16/08/2025 08:29

Have you seen The Mentalist? US show based in California, the people are all beautiful and it has humour but can also be quite dark at times

KateMiskin · 16/08/2025 08:37

Ooh, The Mentalist was great but the premise is dark.

Notonthestairs · 16/08/2025 08:42

Magpie Murders?

Hollieandtheivie · 16/08/2025 08:47

I like Elsbeth (American and quirky). They have a guest star each show, who usually is the murderer!

I second Only Murders and Magpie Murders, too. Bookish is on my list to watch. Anyone watched the Puzzle Lady - or something like that - yet?

CustardCream31 · 16/08/2025 08:50

I agree with Mentalist! Also Blacklist.

TeaHagTeaBag · 16/08/2025 08:55

High Potential is entertaining.

Hollieandtheivie · 16/08/2025 08:56

I'm extremely late to the party with Midsummer murders, but they are actually quite dark. I'm on series 2. Not exactly what I was expecting.

I watched all The Marlow Murders, but I wasn't fussed on them.

barelyany · 16/08/2025 08:56

Thursday Murder Club is coming out on NF soon

I can't wait for this. Brilliant casting with Helen Mirren as Elizabeth. Exactly who I imagined. Not sure about Joyce, but I'm keeping an open mind and will be happy yo ge proved wrong.

PestoHoliday · 16/08/2025 09:26

Magpie Murders and Department Q were fun.

Yamyamabroad · 16/08/2025 09:58

Agatha Raisin will be right up your street, Cotswolds sleuthing with a hint of comedy and a Midsomer feel.

Maybe Father Brown too?

KateMiskin · 16/08/2025 10:00

Department Q was good but not at all fun or kitsch! Very dark and violent.
Second Poker Face.

StreetStrife · 16/08/2025 10:07

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries for the 20s glamour

Iloveeverycat · 16/08/2025 10:13

Have you tried
Father Brown
Shakespeare and Hathaway
McDonald and dodds
Dr Blake Mysterys Australian

ThatGreenFawn · 16/08/2025 12:29

Death in paradise
Father Brown

DrMadelineMaxwell · 16/08/2025 12:32

I also thought of Elsbeth when OP said Kitch. A bit Columbo-like, in that you know who the murderer is/was most likely to be and it's about watching it be figured out.

I also liked Elementary for that.

BobBobBobbing · 16/08/2025 12:34

High potential was good. (Disney+)
Will Trent (Disney +)
The residence (Netflix) has OMITB vibes

BeyondMyWits · 16/08/2025 12:40

Agatha Raisin, Father Brown for UK one's.

Castle is an American murder/cop etc funny but serious series.
(I also like the Mentalist and Bones as go to box sets - a bit darker, but with underlying gentle humour in there too.)
