Welcome to the EastEnders spoilers thread, where we post and talk about any EE spoilers we've read about, including those in early release episodes on iPlayer.

Link below to watch episodes on BBC iPlayer - these are usually dropped at 6am on broadcast days - and you can read brief synopses of upcoming episodes:

If you google ‘Jamie Borthwick sacked’ it will come up in a Daily Mail article. I do think it was wrong what he said, but a warning should have been sufficient.

So it seems he used the 'r' word, used to mock autistic and other disabled people, do describe Blackpool residents

As a sen mum, I think the word should be more seriously and rooted out of casual use, 🤢😡, but I am surprised that they didnt allow him to make a public apology, given that he was there for 19 years

EastEnders' Jay Brown star Jamie Borthwick axed from BBC soap after 19 years

EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick has been axed from the BBC soap after 19 years, becoming one of the longest serving cast members on the show, as the Beeb confirm he won't return

I have a son with non verbal ASD and other disabilities. I'm not massively offended by what he said (i dont know entirely what he said, but can guess), but I felt it was used as a way of mocking someone's class which is a bit more offensive.

I have decided to not watch strictly this year because I'm sick of the press turning it into a circus each year. I'm really not interested in the drama and just wish they dealt with things out of the public eye.

The bbc are going through an insane time right now 😭

Shellingbynight · 06/09/2025 21:48

I agree it's a complete overreaction. A suspension was appropriate, he did not need to be sacked. The BBC rarely manage to get this right. They let absolutely nightmares like Gregg Wallace carry on for years on end, and then sack an actor for his use of one word. (I'll be honest, I don't care much about Jay or Jamie B, but I don't think it is proportionate.)

It was not the 'r' word. The word he used is in this link, asterisked but pretty obvious.

Namechangeonemillionandone · 06/09/2025 22:14

Oh, pardon me, he used the word 'mo***ls'

JemimaTab · 06/09/2025 22:32

I actually think the sacking may relate to something else. The BBC statement is quite cagey.

Which surprised me. While it shouldn't be, the 'r' word is more common than the alleged one used, it sounds a really weird choice, I've not heard it since I was a kid. In the 80s. Its hard to believe he actually said that give his age. I did wonder if he was involved in the coke scandal too.

There was also an arrest a couple of weeks back, a “former Strictly contestant”. Related to sex offences.

Coke scandal?? 👀👀😭

murasaki · 06/09/2025 23:12

There was something a few weeks ago about strictly people being on coke, unclear if it was pro dancers or celebs. It's all getting a bit grubby and nasty.

VivienneDelacroix · 07/09/2025 00:42

I've always really liked Jay as a character, and for some reason I always thought that Jamie would be similar to Jay (kind, warm, funny), but he's obviously not. I'll be sad to see Jay go, but the BBC have to get a grip on what they let slide. I think there is probably more to it than the offensive word used.

Shellingbynight · 07/09/2025 08:24

I agree it's an odd word for him to use, I haven't heard it since I was a kid either.

But his sacking makes a lot more sense if there are other allegations.

zanahoria · 07/09/2025 11:59

There may be other stuff, plus the character has been drifting for years, at least since the paedo conviction stopped him being the nice guy. He has also spent too long being second fiddle to the various Ben Mitchells and the affair with Honey was distasteful and absurd. He was always good with Lola but since she has gone all he has really had is the fake Lola prostitute story.

He will not be a great loss.

Southeastdweller · 07/09/2025 12:39

I liked Jay with Honey - good to see her having fun for a change, I thought.

But I agree with you @zanahoria that Jay hasn't been a major player in the show for a long time, so perhaps this factored into the decision.

I wonder if the ibiza keyring means Zoe had some kind of connection with Ronnie and Roxy. There could possibly be another flashback type episode

Eastie77Returns · 07/09/2025 13:53

The actor arrested on the Eastenders set a couple months back for sexually assaulting a female co-star is in his 50s so not Jamie.

Shellingbynight · 07/09/2025 14:10

This story has recently come out, although it isn't necessarily one of the EastEnders cast.

NowNumber5 · 08/09/2025 09:38

Phil and Nige driving along to 'Father and Son' was so funny 😁

Shellingbynight · 08/09/2025 20:10

The scenes with Jack and the gun and the safe were like a Brian Rix farce. I liked the Priya-Denise scenes though.

Those chickens didn't last long. Julie is spectacularly clueless, telling Nigel upsetting information about the past that he would never have remembered. But I assume Nigel is deluded about the buried treasure because he would not in a million years remember that either.

Jennalong · 08/09/2025 20:11

For those that live in / near Essex was that ' countryside ' Markshall Estate ?
Watching with dh, and we both said we recognise it and sure it was there .

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2025 20:31

I have zoned out today . Buried treasure , chickens , Ravi and Jack and Jack nonsense. Don’t care if they both go down for it tbh.

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2025 20:32

Never been to markshall estate ! I had to look it up , looks nice
