Coming soon, so hopefully will be in next few weeks

OP posts:

Anyway, as previously noted they seem borderline obsessed with setting at Thornhill.

I think that’s different to maths though for example. It would be hard to set geography but there are some aspects of maths that require a firm understanding of certain concepts in order to progress.

Oh I agree with Maths.

I can't see how anyone could successfully teach mixed ability maths at GCSE level. Maths is different as you don't even teach the whole spec to those not aiming for the top grades.

My DC go/went to a different high school in the same trust. They are very keen on maths setting!! Tests every half term, with a view to moving up or down accordingly.

Lots here. Negligible impact, possibly none, on higher achievement, negative impact on lower achievers (these are- confidence, subconscious bias making allocation of some children to lower sets more likely, failure to teach a challenging curriculum).

On gcse day there was a kid on the news who had been made to sit the lower maths gcse by his school in year 10- if he got a C he had proved he could sit the higher paper in Y11. What a lot of stress for nothing, just teach him the more challenging material.

I do think this is maybe overdoing it. Maybe termly would be better? They must spend a lot of time sorting sets out!

Wehadabetamax · 13/10/2025 21:30

I was shocked that headphones had not already been sorted as a reasonable adjustment for Lottie. She should not have had to worry about it so much.

TeacherPrimaryabc · 13/10/2025 22:43

This guy is an excellent example of what the nation should be getting behind. Even if it's your own child who needs this discipline! Unfortunately, far too many schools have gone soft.

i thought the same. It was almost an afterthought. She should really have had proper plan in place. The student managers must have the patience of a saint, if they spend all day sorting out friendship issues and kids crying over having pink hair. (Which I thought looked really good!)

Bunnycat101 · 18/10/2025 07:53

I found this all so blooming depressing. How on earth did that poor boy get to year 7 having a reading age of 5? His primary failed him massively. Snail and frail are words reception age kids.

I also can’t understand why anyone consents for their kid to be on it especially the ones that are having friendship issues.

This was a relatively new condition for Lottie I think, as in within last 18 months. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that at the time she didn't yet have an EHCP in place (or it was inadequate). I'm not at all surprised things weren't miraculously sorted. They just aren't.

purpleme12 · 19/10/2025 20:36

Who is the attendance bus for?
People who are usually late so they pick them up in time to go for school or something else?
How do they decide?
Or is it just for people who don't turn up on the day and don't call in or something?
I'm confused

sittingonabeach · 19/10/2025 20:41

Some local schools have this. If no reason given for not being in they will go to try and young person in

Do you mean if the parent hasn't rung in?

MulberryMoon · 19/10/2025 20:48

I'd have liked being picked up instead of having to walk 😀

Meredusoleil · 19/10/2025 20:56

It's for those serial truants who don't turn up to school for whatever reason (not illness obviously).

Meredusoleil · 19/10/2025 20:58

Was tonight the last in the series?

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 19/10/2025 21:01

Yes it appears it is/was. Quite an abrupt ending. My TV mag said it was episode 8/10 but Google now tells me it was only 8 episodes.

purpleme12 · 19/10/2025 21:04

Yes last episode

I agree with this. But wouldn't English, at least, be the same?

I mean, I have no idea how this is organised now. Back in the dark ages, when I was at school, we were streamed for English. Only the top set did O level Language and O level Literature. Next set down did just O level Language. The set below that, some did O level Language but they were borderline and often did double entry both O level and CSE. All sets below that did CSE only.

I think when DD, now nearly 30, was at school she also had separate GCSEs in English Language and English Literature. Less able students did English Media instead of Literature. I guess this was an example of setting.

This seems to make sense to me

MulberryMoon · 19/10/2025 21:24

They've shown the clip of little boy crying and saying "you don't want me here" every week I think. I hope it's not embarrassing for him.

TeacherPrimaryabc · 19/10/2025 21:26

If a student does not come into school and the parent hasn't rang in, this would be one reason for a visit, if nobody from the school was able to contact the family.

The bus may also be used when a student is known as a student that doesn't come into school. Some parents actual welcome the school coming to help get their child in.

I thought this too but in the clip it’s not clear which boy is saying but I may be confusing it with a different clip.

And that's a wrap! Illuminating look at a Yorkshire community academy in 2024/25. Some inspiring teachers and pupils who let us have a peek into their lives.
I had a quick look back at the original series 2013 and school is so different now.
As a teacher said last night, mental health issues and mobile phones have changed school life forever. The impact of Covid and lockdowns cannot be understated.

Wonder if there will be another series 🤔

PaddingtonBlah · 20/10/2025 20:16

Bit of an underwhelming finish I thought.

I know that they're a lovely inclusive school, doing their best, and supporting kids with all sorts of challenges. But it really doesn't show much real academic work getting done, no real high fliers? Or is that because they make less good TV?

That's what I was wondering too 🤔
