Anyone planning on watching this?

Rob Brydon hosts as contestants are driven around Europe in a blacked out bus, trying to guess where they are. I’ve seen clips of the US Version, it might be good!

It was mainly Josh kicking off about that, wasn’t it? Either way, shows complete arrogance.

arlequin · 15/08/2025 13:13

I think it’s that there’s a stowaway in the bottom of the bus and it’ll be a previous player or similar

CrossPurposes · 15/08/2025 13:17

There are three people left I don't mind winning and three people who I do mind winning and usually I don't care.

Piknik · 15/08/2025 13:30

It's pretty shit really isn't it. I keep watching in the hope that it will become 'clever' but it's just so flawed.

Clues and red-herrings are indistinguishable. There isn't a clever or strategic way to separate them

Games are weak. Carrying wine on a tray? Only having to remember the act with the Venetian performers bit (could have been much more detailed and nuanced questions)

Hardly getting to 'see' anywhere

Absolutely pointless VR goggles that were a big part of episode one and now it feels like nobody know what to do with them. They could have done loads of mixed reality/false views/finding clues Poklemon style. Wasted

Alliances are ultimately pointless as there can only be one winner

It must have a fairly hefty budget but it's just not been thought out that well.

placemats · 15/08/2025 14:00

Obviously the production team understood the dynamics going on. And that resulted in the final pairing. And Judith played a blinder in that. Brilliantly done.

TwinklyBird · 15/08/2025 14:21

I think it would be better if the games were done in a location. Maybe a bit like a small scale Race Across the World. They get let off the bus in a town/city and have to follow clues to get to a landmark or something. First ones there win and win an extra clue to destination x. Along the way they can pick up extra clues to destination x, but it’ll cost them time.

That way a bit of the places they go to actually get shown.

Then they get on the bus and drive to destination x, do the map bit etc.

The clues at the moment seem too contrived. The clues and the red herrings are daft. Most of the time I don’t even understand the point of the bus! It could all be done in a studio!!

Piknik · 15/08/2025 14:27

Completely agree.

They could get off the bus and have to solve Geo-locations. If you get it right, you will physically see a really important clue.

They could get off the bus and be dropped into a tiny village and be free to wander round for 15 minutes. I wouldn't know a Slovenian village from a Slovakian one....

They could get off the bus and put headsets on. Mixed reality clues

So many missed opportunities

It could be the lad who left early!!

NorthSouthEast · 15/08/2025 17:04

I am finding this to be a hot mess of a show. Not RATW in any shape or form. Not The Traitors bar rip offs like getting rid of players early only to (maybe) bring them back, oh and the “portraits” in the last round. A whole episode where they solve very weak clues to get a fairly lame prize (ok so that might be a personal issue as I wouldn’t be thrilled spending 20 mins with my brother) - the whole “here are your friends and relatives to participate in a pointless challenge for no real reason at all” was bizarre.

They all get massive obvious clues to the country they’re in and then go somewhere in that country which they have to guess. But Paris and Venice are very different to Werfen and “the Matterhorn”. And the extra clues don’t always add very much. They all knew it was Munich without needing the extra stuff. Most of the extra clues are for the country not the final destination. But then in another episode the red herrings are multitudinous so I’m not surprised Croatia was thought possible given how many things referred to that whilst there were also loads of Italian references.

Also the weird gameplay of all being in it together but clearly it can’t work like that. Alliances don’t work as they have no control over being teamed with people.

Finay poor Daren who simply doesn’t understand that people want to save him because he’s not a good player. In that way it is similar to The Traitors as in Survival
of the Thickest.

That’s what I thought it was going to be. Race Across the World in different cities.
Turn up in Venice/Paris/Salzburg and have to find a certain statue, then a clue leading to a fountain - that kind of thing. It would make a great travel program.

ChompandaGrazia · 15/08/2025 17:08

I thought that too. Not that I have a brother, DH I might have wanted to see but friend, I can often go weeks without seeing my closest friend. If I had been in that game I would have given my prize to Daren as he clearly wants to see Jackie P so much.

dapsnotplimsolls · 15/08/2025 17:48

I agree, it's a very odd mish-mash of a lot of shows but doesn't really work. No 'destination' stuff at all last night!

placemats · 15/08/2025 18:13

If it gets down to three left and the chance of sharing the prize, then that's good. It's the only way I can see the outcome. Hopefully.

SwedishEdith · 15/08/2025 18:18

Presumably they could nominate their companion for the prize dinner. It was probably asked in a roundabout way during the vetting process to get onto the programme.

Weirdly, although it's a mess of a programme, it's one of the few programmes that's holding my attention all the way through. But, yes, the red herrings don't make sense.

There was a recentish show similar to that on ITV I think - can't remember what it was called. Pairs travelled around an island, getting clues and trying to find landmarks.

I think the bus aspect of Destination X is restricting the format quite a bit.

Hepzibar · 15/08/2025 19:02

@NorthSouthEastcan’t let ‘Survival of Thickest’ pass. Genius 😂

Was that Tempting Fortune?

I don't think giving that prize away would have been an option. Also, we saw at the end that it wasn't just about spending time with a loved one, it was also to be given the envelope with the great advantage that gives for the next day. I'm very pleased Judith won. Lovely she wanted to see her brother. She's my favourite now, of the remaining players.
I liked Daren in the first few episodes, but went off him completely when he misled poor Chloe. Purely because she wasn't one of his 'OGs' 🙄 It was a gratuitously mean thing to do, as he wasn't even going to the map room. I felt very sorry for her, as the late arrivals were automatically on the back foot.
I've just binged this. Episodes 1 to 3 last night, and 4 to 6 this evening! I'm enjoying it, but I agree it's a bit of a muddle in some ways.
Rooting for Judith though. She seems genuinely lovely, and deserves it after being isolated earlier on, which was not nice of the others.

Yes, that's the one 😀

Umanresources · 16/08/2025 00:32

I'm pleased Judith won the task. She looked gorgeous last night and I felt sorry for her and the fact that she felt isolated earlier. I'm pleased she's making an 'alliance' with Claire. I'd like either of those to win really.

farewellperformance · 16/08/2025 08:16

What a rubbish episode!

BestIsWest · 16/08/2025 11:38

Ok, I’ve watched again with the benefit that I could FF through the canal challenge bit which was extremely boring. Judith looked absolutely amazing in that gold dress. I’ve really warmed to her and would like her to win.
Poor Daren looked devastated when he discovered they’d lied to him about Dortmund.

BestIsWest · 16/08/2025 11:39

Oh and the arrogance of Nick and Josh saying their buzzer wasn’t working.

BestIsWest · 16/08/2025 11:39

Made me so cross. They couldn’t believe that old people and women might be quicker than them.

PangolinPan · 16/08/2025 13:54

I'm quite enjoying this show, the lack of any central coherence is what makes it so gripping, you have no idea what's coming next!!

Does anyone know the Italian square (although I think it was a pentagon) in episode 4 (?), where they were getting clues from the market stall, with the flag etc? Previously Rob told us where they'd been but they've stopped that! So random!
