I’m getting snacks and drinks in and watching the whole thing while pretending I’m 12 again. Can’t wait for the Quo to kick it off in half an hour! Anyone else gonna watch?

They a different number of lines on their picture for tv. Different technical system. I remember watching early episodes of the comedy Soap on channel 4 and everything had a yellow hue.

Can you tell I'm not a scientist? 😬😁

Ooh I loved Soap! It was so funny.

Elton just sounds like he’s shouting

He just has a powerful voice.

Such tone.😍

Amorphic · 12/07/2025 23:01

Freddie Mercury was a wonder.

Evenstar · 12/07/2025 23:01

@cardibach such a shame, we lost so much to the pandemic. I had a pet therapy business going into care homes which was just not financially viable afterwards. My friend used to volunteer with a church initiative specifically for dementia patients which completely folded as well.

CheerfulBunny · 12/07/2025 23:01

@JenniferBooth Kiss Me is tremendous 👌

American footage always looked different in the 80s. The actual colours, etc. You could always tell at a glance if something was American. I wonder why?

It's an NTSC vs PAL thing, I think. We used different encoding systems for analogue TV in the US and UK.

Do you remember Richie Brockleman, detective.

Love Boat too.

Funnily enough, I saw him in the 1980s and he announced that he was retiring from touring, and that this would be his last.

40 odd years later . . . 😂

He said the same in 1977, the concert was on tv the other night Grin

It’s music associated with significant life events mostly, but actually it is teens/twenties that you generally latch onto.

Was just saying this to DP.

@JenniferBooth Kiss Me is tremendous 👌

I have the 12 inch version on 12 Inches of the 80s
And in 1985 i got the first Now Dance album on a tape for my 12th birthday and the 12 inch of Kiss Me was on side one which got played to death.

HauntedBungalow · 12/07/2025 23:03

@cardibach could you point me to (easy to understand) research around this? It would be useful for my work.

Lovingmayo · 12/07/2025 23:03

Elton was brilliant at Glastonbury but I can’t find the full set anywhere. It’s annoying me. It’s not on bbc anything as far as I can see anyone got a clue?

tobee · 12/07/2025 23:03

Soap was groundbreaking @Appalonia!

Appalonia · 12/07/2025 23:04

I saw Prince when he did his 21 gigs at the O2 in London and Elton was a guest singer. They did The long and winding road together. I was amazed at how good his voice was live.

HauntedBungalow · 12/07/2025 23:06

Have they cut the rest of The Cars set btw? I will be cross. Ocasek was a prick but we need to see lovely Ben Orr, reportedly not just a beautiful man but also a genuinely lovely person too.

Appalonia · 12/07/2025 23:06

Don't go breaking my heart! The second single I ever bought!😁

angerelle · 12/07/2025 23:06

JenniferBooth · 12/07/2025 22:59

I agree. Anyone else remember Stephen TIn Tin Duffy

He was a founding member of Duran Duran too.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 12/07/2025 23:07

I love this song! Karaoke classic with my DS2 😀

Middlemarch123 · 12/07/2025 23:07

The charity mentioned before - Playlist for Life - is where I got my info when I learned it to do their talks! I think it’s all accessible on their website.
