Kit is an incredibly accurate and calm sewer. All that experience with mesh in slutty gay clubs in Manchester must have helped too 😁

oh god that comment though - get out of here. Sure, you're a flamboyant gay guy. Give it a rest and let the sewing shine. Because he is VERY good at sewing.

I thought last week's winner was the wrong choice, the actual dress was - meh. Agree with PP about not putting dresses on a man, or giving someone a flat chested beanpole and someone else a model who needs a FBA.

I thought the caps were cute, some of the fabric choices were excellent.
Transformation: the yellow one should have won.
Agree with the overall winner.

Especially agree with the eliminations. Skateboard-Dad was too arrogant to take any advice, and the other (sorry, i never remember their names until there are only 6 left) one was just too slow. I think her skills were excellent tho. I love the idea of a backpack that turns into a waistcoat.

I loved the Kung Fu Jackie Chan outfit.

that was my fave outfit in the final challenge

CaptainMyCaptain · 23/07/2025 11:28

What about all the stuff in the backpack when you want to wear it as a waistcoat though?

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2025 13:04

I have caught up on both episodes now. I loved Glendora's linen outfit.

I have been researching Novello. She is extremely wealthy, married to Ron Noades who was Crystal Palace chairman. A glorious WAG back in the day.

I agree that buying a simple sweatshirt pattern and shorts and making the right size for his model seemed simpler than his rather odd just make a random size method. Are they not keeping the models nearby? It sounded as though measuring them was a fangle. For me athleisure is joggers and tshirt. There were a lot of overfancy not very comfortable outfits. They were wanting influencer inspired pretend athleisure

You wouldn't think that if you could see what mmy sixth form girls wear as everyday outfits...

I’m no prude but I was really surprised that comment survived the edit. My 8 year old watches Sewing Bee with me and it’s usually just mild innuendo that goes over his head.

I have been enjoying the series so far, and agreed with the eliminations this week. I loved Orla's garment of the week. I do find the transformation is getting a bit tired though - it needs a revamp, otherwise it's the same old same old of throwing together something hardly anyone would wear in a ludicrously short space of time. I don't think many people sew like that.

my assumption was that, it was for climbing?, it has things that you need for climbing, so you take them out and use them, then when you have finished you put them back in the backpack?

don't get me wrong i do think it's great that there is a diverse set of contestants. But like the gay chap with his harnesses a few years ago - it is really a) tedious and b) unnecessary since there is plenty of other stuff to talk about.

Especially this year, because they clearly have a lot of skill. So i am interesting to see the thought process, hear how the decisions about the fabric, colours were made etc etc.

Not the "only gay in the village" act that was being channelled there.

(tbh: it goes out at 9pm so if kids are watching, holidays or not, that's not an issue for me. it is post watershed)

ETA. Oh sorry, i remembered from the RT summary that this one uses "they/their" pronouns. have edited to stop the misgendering.

Yeah what I meant was that given the post-watershed slot I have formed my own view of whether OK for my son (we often watch on catch up) and up until now it’s been fairly benign.

ShoAndSew · 23/07/2025 14:13

i'll be interested to see if there are complaints to Ofcom about it. The "slutty" thing really annoyed me.

OK. I know nothing about climbing.

I have to admit, I was a bit taken aback by that comment. If a straight man had said that, I don't think it would have made the edit.

ShoAndSew · 23/07/2025 16:10

i just found it too "look at me, I'm mad i am" type of thing. He is already noticeable because of his clothes. And he is already, in ep 2!, noticeable because of skills.

I hope this was a one off, to set the scene, as it were. Because like harness chap, it will get very bloody old very bloody quickly. TBH i would have appreciated it more if it was more like "ohh goody mesh, I've made a lot of outfits with mesh because it's stretchy, supportive and see through - good for clubbing"

It didn't bother me. I didn't realise what you were talking about at first.

I wouldn't say it bothered me particularly, just that I was surprised they broadcast it.

I don't know why the RT is using they/them pronouns for Kit as the actual programme isn't.

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2025 18:19

I thought it was sweet when Dan(?) , recruited Kit into the PJ and Duncan dance and it was obvious that Kit had not one clue what he was on about!

There's always a certain amount of frisson within the gay male community, especially when it comes to fashion. The sewers are highly skilled this year, especially the younger ones.

Still have problems regarding the times for each project. But they are reminded that they have had time to practice.

Not a fan of the recycling outfits to another outfit - nearly always party wear. Would prefer a cushion cover or a pet basket.

That's a really good idea about the transformation - it would certainly be more practical to turn old clothes/fabric into something useful like a bag or dog bed.

placemats · 23/07/2025 18:42

Yes bags @BreakfastOfWaffles shopping and gift bags. Great idea.

ShoAndSew · 23/07/2025 22:03

i think they should ditch the transformation challenge in favour of a "repair this" challenge. Replace a zip, turn a collar, that kind of thing

ChompandaGrazia · 23/07/2025 22:09

What annoys me is that every year they have a gay man who camps it up and carries on about being gay/doing drag/going out to gay clubs. Has there ever been a gay woman, I honestly don’t remember?
When the do the chat about their back ground it’s always Freddy lives with his partner Steve and their French bulldog Toby. When not sewing Freddy does drag and loves making Pride costumes for his friends.
But I would expect a gay woman to be Linda lives with her wife Louise and their daughter Sophie. When she’s not sewing she goes to the local book club and enjoys hill walking.

I don’t give a shit if someone is gay. It’s not interesting.

2Rebecca · 23/07/2025 22:21

Most of my gay friends male and female talk no more about their sex lives and sexuality than my heterosexual friends. I know them through hobby groups and we discuss the hobby and other general life stuff.

Exactly. So why when someone is on a tv show is everyone so eager to talk about it?
