I'm looking forward to it.

I think Caz is a very strong contender. Her top stitching was very good. And I agree that there needs to be a middle ground between design and quality sewing.

Claire, the surgeon who won with her vintage designs, was a perfect example of that balance.

I agree, that top stitching in the denim dress was sublime!

OrangeAndPistachio · 18/07/2025 12:02

@tinyspiny it's definitely changed , but if Gaynor makes it to the final and the m2m is a red carpet dress she could absolutely win using her sewing skills. A beautifully sewn classic ball gown (or similar) could beat an original but badly sewn garment. I'm very interested to see how things progress , I like the group they have and each of them have something to offer.

tinyspiny · 18/07/2025 13:40

@OrangeAndPistachio I agree , but I don’t think she will get that far although I’d be happy to see it . I am happy with the group though and they do seem to be generally more capable than last years

OrangeAndPistachio · 18/07/2025 13:50

I got a little frustrated watching in the last couple of years because of the poor quality of the sewing. I'm not saying that the contestants themselves were at fault , as they applied then did their best to compete , but the casting choices were definitely not what I've come to expect.

MoltenLasagne · 21/07/2025 13:15

I'm pleasantly surprised with the sewing abilities this year. The relative newbie (Mustache Man) said he's sewn a garment every week since he started so has probably clocked more sewing hours than the average sewer does in 5 years.

I did wonder if the time constraints are a bit more sensible this year too. They must have had feedback after last year where so many of the sewers ended up not managing to complete in time.

Glendora is back! Panelled cap

munchbunch12 · 22/07/2025 21:12

Is 3 hours enough to make the caps? It sounds very fiddly!

MoltenLasagne · 22/07/2025 21:16

The caps look exceedingly tricky. Three rows of parallel topstitching around the curve of the peak!? I'd love to know what the new sewing machines are, they used to have the Singer heavy duty ones (which I have) but these seem a lot fancier.

Also does anyone else think Stuart looks like Patrick?

2Rebecca · 22/07/2025 21:16

The cap sounds fun although I don’t wear that sort of cap

2Rebecca · 22/07/2025 21:17

I don’t like the red and orange together

HeadNorth · 22/07/2025 21:24

Kit is an incredibly accurate and calm sewer. All that experience with mesh in slutty gay clubs in Manchester must have helped too 😁

2Rebecca · 22/07/2025 21:26

I may want to cry if they are destroying vintage cycle jerseys

I agree. They spoilt perfectly good clothes last week too.

2Rebecca · 22/07/2025 21:39

I liked the top of winning guys cycle wear but not the weird skirt bit

2Rebecca · 22/07/2025 21:44

Gaynor’s outfit will be great if it works

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/07/2025 21:50

I'm not keen on the sweatshirts that finish above the bust.

HeadNorth · 22/07/2025 21:58

Orla deserved garment of the week for that. Peter was unlucky I think after winning garment of the week last week, but he did seem to lack sewing ability.

OrangeAndPistachio · 22/07/2025 22:32

All Peter had to do was use a bought sweatshirt pattern and measure his models waist. Sweatshirts are such a quick , simple make as well. Such silly mistakes! I'm sorry to see him go as he had some interesting ideas and could've done well.

Safffie's m2m design was very cool , but with two going she was inevitably going to be the second person. Would've loved to see her progress.

I have high hopes for the coming weeks , they're sewing very well as a group.

cordelia16 · 22/07/2025 22:33

I was annoyed with Peter and wasn't sorry to see him go. His attitude seemed quite arrogant tonight. He deliberately chose not to measure his model before cutting the shorts material - he must have known that was very risky but decided to ignore Esme's advice anyway.

OrangeAndPistachio · 22/07/2025 22:36

@cordelia16 I was assuming that he made mistakes under the pressure of competition , but if that's how he sews on a daily basis he might want to rethink his processes.

Yes, that could be. And all of them make mistakes. For me I guess it was the under the breath "yeah, not gonna do that" kind of attitude. Esme pointed out the collar not sitting flat and advised him to measure his model. He ignored both pieces of advice, and his outfit was poorly done as a result.

I really liked him (and his designs) last week, so it could be that his nerves got the better of him.

I think Esme was really ticked off with him and he would have had to create something fantastic to have survived , which he didn’t .

2Rebecca · 22/07/2025 23:00

I agree that buying a simple sweatshirt pattern and shorts and making the right size for his model seemed simpler than his rather odd just make a random size method. Are they not keeping the models nearby? It sounded as though measuring them was a fangle. For me athleisure is joggers and tshirt. There were a lot of overfancy not very comfortable outfits. They were wanting influencer inspired pretend athleisure

placemats · 23/07/2025 01:54

I loved the Kung Fu Jackie Chan outfit.
