Gaynor at risk for being too cautious 😬 but looks like Dan messing up.

Halsall · 19/08/2025 21:45

And is shearing the same as smocking?

No - smocking is done with stitching and produces elasticity in the fabric with pleats/gathers. Shirring uses actual elastic.

HeadNorth · 19/08/2025 21:52

Caz has knocked it out the park again in the m2m. She does this as well as Kit does the pattern challenge.

AugustDieSheMustTheAutumnWindsBlowChillyAndCold · 19/08/2025 21:55

It’s a shame if Gaynor leaves for something “executed beautifully” (Patrick) but deemed to be too simple.

SwedishEdith · 19/08/2025 21:55

Gaynor should have made a petal shaped cape to go with her outfit.

Caz's was amazing. Like something you could buy in H&M or Zara for kids.

HeadNorth · 19/08/2025 21:56

To be fair, it wouldn’t have killed Gaynor to have added a few snowdrops to the top - it didn’t really look like fancy dress. Sorry to see Dan go - his outfit was more fun for fancy dress.

AugustDieSheMustTheAutumnWindsBlowChillyAndCold · 19/08/2025 21:57

Oh, good, she’s saved.

I wonder if it would have made a difference if Dan abandoned the shirt when he realised he was so short of time
and spent a little longer finishing the other two pieces.

AugustDieSheMustTheAutumnWindsBlowChillyAndCold · 19/08/2025 21:58

Art week and babydoll dress says Grayson Perry to me.

I hope not.

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 19/08/2025 21:59

Thank heaven Caz saved herself.

i want Patrick for Christmas.

MorrisZapp · 19/08/2025 21:59

Dan 😭😭😭

ShoAndSew · 19/08/2025 22:01

sad to see Dan go but he was the weakest.
Will be sad if Gaynor is next, she really is so good at the execution, but less imagination.
Going on general sewing skills, Stuart next for the chop?
Loved GOTW - Caz really has a great eye for colour and shape.

ChompandaGrazia · 19/08/2025 22:02

Gaynor should have added a few embellishments. Her dress was lovely but lacking.
Dan was the right choice.

Was anyone else annoyed by Patrick’s collar being caught in his jacket during the judging?

CrushingOnRubies · 19/08/2025 22:12

Glad Caz saved herself

sorry to see Dan go

I missed that - possibly typing, probably just unobservant. I wonder if there's a continuity error if it wasn't tucked in throughout?

OrangeAndPistachio · 19/08/2025 22:25

Great episode. I really enjoyed seeing adaptive clothing as my son needs it due to his sensory sensitivities and poor fine motor skills. Its slowly becoming more common.

Garment of the week was fantastic , loved (what looked like) ikea duvet covers or fabric used for that outfit.

Sad to see Dan go but he should be so proud as they're all so talented.

I can see Gaynor going next week unless she becomes more adventurous.

Hedjwitch · 19/08/2025 22:33

Gaynor is a fabulous seamstress and incredibly accurate. If the competition is about how good someone is at sewing, she's right up there. But if its more about creativity and design,she..and Stuart...will be next to go.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 19/08/2025 22:36

I do find myself a bit irritated by Gaynor even tho she’s obviously a very nice person and a competent sewer. She must have watched the show before and seen the stuff the other people do and she still seems to go for fairly boring designs. I think it’s that her work isn’t immaculate enough to overlook the plainness of the designs and not imaginative enough to forgive mistakes in lieu of flair.

I would have preferred Dan to stay but appreciate that it was a valid decision to send him home.

Caz or Kit still my favourites but enjoying Orla and Yasmine as well.

OrangeAndPistachio · 19/08/2025 22:43

@WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady I can see what you mean , but if she decided to go on the show for the experience and is content with her style and designs then that's fine too.

I do have this crazy vision of her getting to the final and making some wonderful and unexpected creation though! That would be excellent.

placemats · 19/08/2025 22:53

It was a snowdrop ballerina outfit that fitted the brief, but the top should have had green stems and a dash of pink/red.

Dan deserved to go sadly.

Jasmine and Orla are fun.

Piffle11 · 19/08/2025 23:31

Just finished watching it.

I don’t think I could love Caz more.

I was completely torn regarding whether Dan or Gaynor should go… I really like them both: Dan tried harder design wise, but Gaynor executed her simple design better. Unless something amazing happened, neither would have made it to the final three. I’m thinking Caz, Kit and Orla for the final, with Yasmin as my possible/dark horse. But I think they’re all lovely and talented.

PickAChew · 19/08/2025 23:51

At this point, they all knock the spots off last year's winner.

Caz has incredible imagination and can sew. If she doesn't make a big mistake before the final she could win.

CorrectionCentre · 19/08/2025 23:54

I really enjoyed that episode.

I love Caz and her joyous approach to sewing. Her Zandra Rhodes outfit was fantastic. I understood the Dan/Gaynor dilemma and understand themselves giving it yo Gaynor, but I would have preferred Dan to stay.
It's between Kit and Caz I think for the win. Both would be worthy winners but I'd love Caz to win.

I really like Dan, but it does seem a bit of a no-brainer that they couldn't chuck Gaynor out when she had sewn a beautiful dress which they couldn't fault in terms of how it was made. I think sometimes they - particularly Esme - are in danger of forgetting the purpose of what people are making. Most little girls would absolutely love that flower fairy outfit and wouldn't care a jot that it wasn't particularly jazzy or complex.

tinyspiny · 20/08/2025 00:49

I’d rather Dan had stayed and Gaynor had gone , I’ve nothing against her at all but she really isn’t even trying to be adventurous and that outfit she made was very boring and she then just sat there having finished so early , it’s a bit ridiculous .

Like craycray?

And is shearing the same as smocking?

The sheep will tell you no. 🐑

I think you mean shirring.
