'one of which is where Carrie returned to NY engaged to Petrovsky. Same scene setting in the cafe upon Carrie’s return, but with the characters talking about her imminent wedding to the Russian. In another version, Big goes to Paris but backs out from “rescuing” her, so she returns alone'

Wow, I had no idea about these alternative endings either. I quite like the option where Big backs out - he flaked out on her every time before that so it would make sense. I really hated their 'fairytale' ending and always thought their story should have ended when she yelled at him on the street just before she left for Paris. Hated Petrovsky too so she could have left him and returned to the girls and NYC

Really intrigued to see how they finish AJLT, but I'm not holding my breath for anything satisfying!

sweetpickle2 · 06/08/2025 11:51

I think it's since been confirmed that those alt endings were just to throw people off the scent and stop leaks, rather than what the story was actually going to do- Carrie and Big was always endgame.

I wonder if she'll go back to her old apartment in the finale- there's a photo from set of her speaking to Lisette outside the brownstone. In lieu of actually tying up any storylines (I am still convinced they didn't know it was ending when they made it) a shot of Carrie writing in her old window is probably the way they'll finish things.

I don't think she suits the new house.

She seems to have no notion of how to furnish it, doesn't want to "live in it" by buying more groceries than the odd individual pot of yoghurt. and is frankly trashing those beautiful floors with her heels.

I think her old apartment would be a good move. And hopefully that would get the fictional woman out of her button boots and into some heels.

Carrie in this house just never worked for me.

Finally caught up on the series and thread. Ep 10 did really seem like a season finale and I like the autumnal, falling leaves nod to the SATC “seasons change and so do people” episode (AKA Big goes to Napa/dedicated to our city of New York)

GellerYeller · 06/08/2025 19:17

The alternate endings are fascinating!
According to Instagram Carrie’s Cinderella dress from the last episode was bought from the personal collection of Vivienne Westwood! It was worn by Vivienne herself.

I love that episode! Her hair was 👌

Bumble6 · 07/08/2025 19:53

I'm very excited for the finale!
I have a feeling Samantha may be involved somehow. Probably not with Kim.C actually in it but possibly a shot of someone from behind who we will presume is Samantha.

SummerCanDoOne · 07/08/2025 21:38

I'm playing catch up on Ep 9 atm and I just can't believed how shit the men are.

Aidan is a jealous, controlling twat.

Herbert is self-obsessed and ridiculous.

Adam, the gardener who seemed lovely and cool is shaping up to be a complete manchild.

Probably fairly representative of real life or maybe I'm just properly middle aged and cranky!

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/08/2025 23:06

I don’t think Adam is a man child

he had a plant /memory of his mum

he didn’t yell at her after she killed it

he repotted it and gave it back to her saying I will look after it as in your life

GellerYeller · 07/08/2025 23:31

I can’t imagine what they could do that would allow us to look back with such affection for the series, as they did with the end of SATC.
So instead I’ll dream of the spin off. I want Anthony, maybe in some sort of return to wedding planning: Hot Fellas could cater? So we get fabulous dramas and cameos. Charlotte, Bitsy, can we shoehorn the occasional Enid in somehow? Maybe even Samantha could come back.

SummerCanDoOne · 08/08/2025 00:44

@Blondeshavemorefun no, tbf he went up in estimation at that point. He is a bit like an enthusiastic puppy some of the time though!

He and Seema definitely give Sam/Samantha vibes and the whole younger man with more emotional intelligence that the older ones thing.

KeepCalmAndPretendItIsOnTheLessonPlan · 08/08/2025 03:13

Just watched penultimate episode.
Guess that's her old flat dealt with then but still assume she'll sell up?
Interesting take on Rock - addressing Charlotte's sadness.
Leading it to look like Miranda's thanksgiving will be a disaster but I expect everyone will turn up anyway?
Brady's being a chump. Mistake or not, he should still be stepping up. TIL Owen Wilson did with his first two but ignores his unplanned DD, pays maintenance but that's it. Damned annoying.
Why will Duncan never return? Because Carrie was that distracting?? Bizarre.
Maybe he'll send her a wax-sealed envelope inviting her to London.
Have to say, on the back of this episode I'd have preferred them to have finished it last week.
I liked last week's episode.

This could have been a stand alone double episode Thanksgiving special instead, ah well.

I didn't really get today's episode lots of things left hanging
I presume next week they will tie up all the loose ends ?

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/08/2025 11:00

I’m away and can’t seem to work out how to watch so will have to avoid head till home which is after both last 2 episodes

WendyFromTransvisionWamp · 09/08/2025 13:29

I’ve just come across an IG page called andjustlikethatcostumes, it’s an official AJLT page, delving into the costumes used. I found it very interesting!

Scramblingeggs · 11/08/2025 17:07

The trailer for the last episode looks so nothingy 😪 and why was the last one only 27 minutes long!

OMG - I watched Sex and the city 2 finally - there are no words! I am stunned that film did not bury all chances of them ever coming back - it makes AJLT look like Shakespeare Grin
I watched Kermode review it twice (when it first came out and revisiting ten years later). Both hit the nail on the head, as does Lindy West.
It was from the abyss.

Abu Dhabi Do!
Lawrence of my labia!
Karaoke!
Camel camel toe!
I HAVE SEX!
Nanny jiggly tits but she's a lesbian

I'd say it was so bad it was good but hell no, hatewatch does not begin to describe how embarrassing it was. No wonder Kim Cattrall said feck off to another one.

Gowlett · 14/08/2025 00:15

Ugh… Carrie & Aidan’s “break-up” Why did they bring him back?
For me, he ruined AJLT. It was so exciting when she shagged Duncan!
When she sashayed into the bar, we knew it was going to happen…
We could have had all of these amazing Carrie good times! And outfits!
But, we were robbed. By bloody Aidan. I still have 11 & 12 to watch.
Please tell me he’s gone??? I just want Carrie, the clothes (and BIG).

spoilers - do not read unless you have already watched the finale

So what a damp squib of a finale
Who knew that Carrie's first, last and everything was...pie.
Am I missing something? Do I need to go back to the pilot episode of SATC?
If that was a planned finale, I'll eat one of Carrie's hats.

All that "our" choice to leave it here - bollocks.
Carrie - The woman was not alone. She was on her own. Roll credits.
I'd have much rather they'd left it at episode 10, which I genuinely liked.

If they all felt there was anything left to say, then a 90 minute holiday special or an AJLT movie, but this abrupt, no point farewell, cobbled on was a misfire. No flash forwards, future them, no group at the end even though the friendships were always meant to be the focus, no cos Carrie's an independent woman on her tod.

Carrie - I can eat pie on my own. My pie. Meins.
Miranda - romantic scene having cleared up someone else's shit. Ick.
Charlotte - has sex with Harry, woo. And Rock will be lots of different personas as a thespian.
Anthony - gets pie on the face.
Lisa - will be fine with her sulky baby sweatpants husband
Seema - won't get her saffron-gold wedding dress

But they all get to eat different pies courtesy of Carrie. No mention of Samantha. Steve gets a cursory scene of we'll be grandparents, no matter what. Brody disappears into thin air, along with Mama Mia and her motley crew, all of whom are bloody awful.

Aiden gets written in as having always been in the back of Carrie's mind after Big had died. Really?
It was all written on the back of a fag packet.
We would've done a better job on here.

<Goes off to look for pie>

@KeepCalmAndPretendItIsOnTheLessonPlan

Agree with a lot of this. First and foremost, that bathroom scene was vile and so unnecessary. Mia's posse was just awful and again unnecessary.

What struck me most, though, was how similar Carrie's ending was to Ally McBeal. Ally had a few major loves of her life that ended (curse you RDJ though - still haven't forgiven you IRL for what Larry had to do to Ally, because Larry never would have left Ally otherwise). And Barry White was an absolute staple to that show. They used his music all the time. Anyone who is watching AJLT is likely of the age to have watched Ally McBeal. The show ended with Ally alone (albeit with a daughter she didn't know she had), but she too "was not alone but on her own." Really, really annoyed me. They could have used any other song.

Just search up "Barry White Dance (Ally McBeal 2x12)" on utube - it's* *one of the most iconic Ally McBeal scenes involving Barry White. classic.)

The montage moments running at the end was disappointing. It was good to get some "closure" on everyone's storylines, but SATC was all about the friendships. The last scene, even with the message that Carrie was fine with the possibility of not meeting another man, should have been Carrie with all her friends (the loves of her life, wisely said by Big).

I'll repost this on the other thread once everyone has had a chance to watch the episode.
