Wonder where the rats went

Into Duncan's gaff. He's really the Pied Piper of London Town. That's what his pipe is for. One puff in his face, and Aiden will follow him to the Hudson River and fall in and drown. Never to be seen again.

Anyone else think Aiden's heavy bags are full of instruments to chop up Carrie? He's got a bit of a serial killer vibe going on.

His underbite and excessively thin lips are giving me the ick most this episode. Lord knows what’s in the bags. More hair serum? Lube? Emergency Botox? Ozempic pens? More tighty whites? 🤮

Maybe he suffocates Carrie by throwing his tighty-whities over her head.

I'm really enjoying the AJLT too - especially now they have got rid of the awful Che, Jackie and the rest of that entourage. I don't think the criticism is any worse than the discourse that was around the original series when it first aired and was quite shocking for the time. It's just we have social media and everyone and their auntie gets to have a public voice. It's nothing new for AJLT, the movies were similarly slated.

Any writer portraying a beloved character is going to bump up against the perceptions formed of that character by the viewer, it's just natural. It was written so well originally that we feel we know them - that's a huge compliment on the original series and its writing. And they are beloved, they have meant a lot to a lot of viewers, almost like family. So AJLT is like watching family members acting really strangely. It's horrifying, compelling and funny in equal measure.

I'm glad it's getting great viewing figures. I hope it continues to a next series, but I too think that one might be the last. Hopefully, Carrie can get rid of Aiden and put her past to bed for good this season, and move on with her life in the next.

I agree. If I wasn’t on Mumsnet I’d just be busily enjoying it and getting mildly irked by Aiden but you lot bring out the worst in me! 😂

Netaporter · 21/07/2025 09:57

I re-watched the episode yesterday with DH (he’s a big fan of both SATC and the reboot) his first remark was “”why is she dressed as a clown? “ 😂

You answered it in your post. It was always at the end of each SATC episode.

It was always at the end of each AJLT episode (until this series), not SATC. She did say it sometimes in her narration in SATC though eg "and just like that, Miranda got hit by old faithful."

I think the lack of narration throughout the episode is genuinely one of the worst decisions they made with the whole show- especially now the characters are much more disconnected, it would have been a way to bring it all together a bit more.

Edited

Are you suggesting ‘the woman’ in the novel isn’t really working as an alternative device….

I looked at the podcast run time for the last episode - episode 30 odd minutes. Podcast 67 minutes!

greengreyblue · 22/07/2025 22:51

Pretty sure it was said in most SATC episodes. 🤔Definitely a Carrie ( haha ) over from SATC.

greengreyblue · 22/07/2025 23:11

Just watching f Divorce. Sjp is a screamer. Over a burst pipe. 🙄 Really weird to scream at her age.

Well true

tho was married to a smoker and now I think yuk

not sure I could do it again

WendyFromTransvisionWamp · 23/07/2025 08:39

The series is completely ridiculous but I still want to watch it Grin.

I have to say I don’t really care about LTW or her family, and Seema neither. The gardener is ewww too.

And controversially, I don’t miss Samantha at all. She was a very ott character, when I watch old episodes, I keep cringing at some of her scenes.

Tbh, I find the remining cast paper thin and pretty awful too yet I am drawn to watch it 🥴

Newgirls · 23/07/2025 08:50

I think LWT has the most recognisable plot lines - working, crush at work, school stuff. It’s the crazy wealth that slightly distances us I think.

She said it a lot (someone's made an edit of all the times here https://streamable.com/u83xri) but it wasn't at the end of each episode.

cordelia16 · 23/07/2025 10:58

Carrie said, "I couldn't help but wonder..." every SATC episode, didn't she? As a lead in to her column topic. But I guess that would be too cumbersome a title for the reboot :)

Again, not every episode, but a lot of them- someone's made this edit too! https://www.reddit.com/r/Andjustlikethat/comments/17rxbjy/sorry_i_had_to_again_dont_hate_me/?share_id=-pA8S4DrLAvP9n848cwL_&utm_content=1&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1

My theory- Aiden has guns from the farm/ranch in the bags to keep them away from som - Carrie finds out by a near miss accident and finally breaks up with him

Scramblingeggs · 23/07/2025 12:18

Son not som! Wyatt

I also think the bags have guns in them. It was my first thought after he was so avoidant in his answers….

TBF, I cried bucketloads when Big died.., I will only feel relief if they off Aidan 😂

@PurplebeadedFendi I agree with you about the men in Carrie's life.

Aiden is a complete waste of space and Carrie suddenly deciding HE was the love of her life, rather than Big is unforgivable. As is writing Big out of Carrie's history - he was the love of her life and she doesn't ever, ever mention him? WTAF? She's his widow! She had finally married him and lived with him and loved him and got her happy ever after (I know it wasn't 100% but actually I quite liked their relationship in the second film, where she wants Sparkle Guy and he wants to loll on the sofa after a long day, she was right to challenge that marriage laziness IMO).

Berger was indeed a reflection of her, but even more needy and insecure and broke up with her on a post it fgs.

And don't get me started on Petrovsky, who abandoned her in Paris the minute he stopped feeling insecure about his exhibition and had a few super fans around him.

In fact, most of Carrie's men are threatened by Carrie's success, except Big because he was already hugely financially successful.

Holluschickie · 18/07/2025 12:00

This was an ick episode for me.
Aidan gives me the ick with his controlling behaviour and his inability to talk about anything but Wyatt.
Harry has always given me the ick, and now more so with his balls obsession.
Herbert deeply ick and so non sexy. Get the seltzer yourself dammit!
That disgusting Tracy Emin ripoff bed.
Also who buys a Basquiat for their poet son?

Meanwhile I agree with a reviewer who said AJLT wants to humiliate all the older women.
Charlotte teetering about and falling in the bed
Miranda with her karaoke last weei and fawning over Joy, who is too cool for her
Carrie a pale shadow of herself letting Aidan manipulate her.

Seema is the only one who seems her own woman.

I completely agree, the last season felt like the writers hated and despised older women and this isn't much better.

They could have had SO MUCH FUN with it but instead they made Miranda into a dimwit who is confused about how to talk to black people and is nervous about everything (and an alcoholic) and Carrie an even worse friend than before and Charlotte even more sappy although at least she's back working in a gallery so that's something I suppose. I miss Samantha! Seema is great but she's not Samantha.

We women in our fifties have interesting lives!
