Well that was a cracking episode, massive plot holes aside, and a return to the earlier Gilead stuff that's been lacking up to now. Yay Rita, and Luke finally got to play the part he'd been longing for. Sad ending for Lawrence, but didn't bother me to see Nick getting on the plane. Also cheering for Aunt Lydia who finally came through at the hanging, and for Serena who gave up the commanders. I look forward to watching it again!

Serena had better hope that Naomi doesn’t hear about Serena’s capitulation!

A bit dull?! Surely you’re being sarcastic?!

I felt the same in parts, to me it started to get going halfway through then I enjoyed it and felt very emotional about Lawrence

Crinkle77 · 30/06/2025 19:19

Dull? It was action packed.

Going to read through later - didn’t see the new thread 😁 episode 9 watched and quite frankly was a bit dull……

Not sure I'd use the word 'dull' but for an episode which featured the death of two main characters and saw our heroine literally strung up in the public square, it somehow lacked emotional punch. At least for me. I don't know if it was the gaping plot holes or the poor pacing, but it just didn't do it for me. The very obvious CGI crowds and warplanes didn't help either.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/06/2025 20:20

9 was dull @mizu? Wow

what did you think of 3&4

i think those were dull

Lawrence sacrificed his self

Not sarcastic but like someone else said, it didn’t get going for a while. I don’t know, I have loved it all - but yes episode 3 this season wasn’t great - and it’s probably my favourite book ever, but …..maybe I need to rewatch, it’s just all happening so quickly now and seems a bit ridiculous.

Eldermileniummam · 01/07/2025 12:53

Excellent episode. One of the best things I've watched in ages despite the plot holes.

I wondered whether it was always the plan for Lawrence to go on the flight as I don't see why he couldn't have made up an excuse to get off but then I suppose they wouldn't have left without him! It's a shame about Lawrence and Nick.

I don't think Nick did see June but it was strange he hesitated. I wonder if June would try to stop him but she could really. It would have been hypocritical after what she said to Serena about Wharton.

I like that Aunt Lydia spoke out for them all at the end and that it was a very near miss for them all.

Eldermileniummam · 01/07/2025 12:55

I also think it was silly that June drove Lawrence and then just causally got out of the car and walked around the hangar.

peanutbuttertoasty · 01/07/2025 13:11

Is it true that Lydia and janine got recaptured after the botched execution? Has anyone re-watched?

BBQBertha · 01/07/2025 13:31

Hmm, feels rushed to me. A whole series to go at and there have only been one or two decent episodes. Not sure how it will end as surely June can’t leave without Hannah? How can that fit into just one more hour?

gingercat02 · 01/07/2025 16:56

Only managed to catch up today. It's been killing me avoiding this thread. I'm going to have to watch early at the weekend. I can't cope with being behind at the very end.
Good episode. I'm glad Nick got blasted, he's a weak man, I think he had decided the Gilead was the right way to go, and thought Lawrence had done too. Loved his line "do what you have to, to survive " knowing they were all going to die.
Loved Rita turning up at the HM rescue.
This leaves Nyomi and Serena widows, will they be married off asap, or will Serena see Tuello as her way out?

Breathmiller · 01/07/2025 16:57

@Eldermileniummam -I think the plan was for him to go early and plant it then leave.

Why that meant it had to be him who knows? If June can stand and weep undetected so blatantly then any soldier could have gone unnoticed and planted the bomb and left. You know, on account of it being the only plane hanger in the world without any ground crew or security for the highest commanders in the area. *rolls eyes

Roseblooms · 01/07/2025 17:40

The way Lawrence put his hand on his heart to say goodbye had me all 🥺

EBearhug · 01/07/2025 18:33

Why that meant it had to be him who knows?

Who else could it have been? It had to someone who could get on the plane, whuch meant a commander, and June could have hardly asked the rest of them. They'd just tried to hang her, and were very much pro Gilead, and planting a bomb on the plane of all your country's highest leaders is treason even in the most forgiving of states- which Gilead isn't. (Ironically - I'm sure the Bible mentions forgiveness...)

deeahgwitch · 01/07/2025 19:01

OMG when Lawrence walked on to the plane to his certain death.
And when he said to Nick, knowing what he knew about their imminent demise “…..you should have listened to her (June)”
His delivery is always just spot on.
Loved the way Bradley Whitfotd portrayed him.

Saw this BTS photo online which cracked me up. It's not a spoiler I promise - it's from one of the earlier series.

Generaltwat · 01/07/2025 20:15

What a way to go out though ! Bomb on a place would certainly be a preferable quick death than hanging or whatever would happen to Commanders who have betrayed Gilead

Generaltwat · 01/07/2025 20:22

bomb on a PLANE.

I saw those too. I love the one of baby Nicole with massive stick-on eyebrows 😁

They weren't "all your country's highest leaders" though. They were only the highest placed commanders in Boston. Surely there will have been other commanders in other cities, and the real elite would have been in Washington, where their plane was headed.

As I said upthread, killing the commanders is a dramatic plot point, but I'm not sure how it's going to bring down the regime unless they get the armed guardians on side.

Thatsrhesummeroverthen · 01/07/2025 22:21

But the Americans could take back Boston, at least, maybe that's the aim. And would be easier to launch further attacks from Boston than from Canada..

Maybe but even so, it would take more than a planeload of dead commanders to do that. They'd need a significant military force, including boots on the ground.

Thatsrhesummeroverthen · 01/07/2025 22:29

The plane was just the mop up - loads of commanders had been killed the night before.

JingsMahBucket · 02/07/2025 07:51

June didn’t drive Lawrence! She was in the passenger seat for moral support. Remember American cars (and most of the world) have their steering wheels on the left side of the car.
