Well - probably because this is a thread that specifies - in capital letters! - no spoilers. So it really spoils things when people post them.

I know, I'm definitely in the no spoilers on THT or TT camp.

Anyone who knows me , knows I do tv pace no spoilers and in CAPS so people actually read it

I was tense through the whole plane scene - I do suspect of June hadn't gone, Lawrence would have bottled it, particularly when it came to him being caught out and having to get on the plane himself.

Mostly though I was shouting at the screen 'behind the car is a SHIT place to hide... HIDE BETTER JUNE' as I really did think she might get caught!

I thought the scene on the plane and then the plane exploding was done really well, with the conversation between Nick and Lawrence being quite ... something.

I do think throughout each series they would have been smart to remind people via some characters looking at maps perhaps, just how big Gilead is, where everyone is and everyones going to/from, as that lack of detail did make it a bit.. flat, perhaps?

agree one of the few times I reported a post when someone put a strictly spoiler in the middle of a random thread saying they'd watched strictly final rather than the other random tv thread. Don’t talk about other shows/books in a thread

we've got an episode to go but I have really enjoyed the threads and discussions along the way, even with the season 2 spoiler messenger

Was it all the States, though? Didn't some of it become the Colonies, which were all polluted and essentially uninhabitable except for slave labour prison camps where they all died quickly? I suppose that is still part of Gilead, but it's not all really usable living space.

Didn’t the US flag this series show just 2 stars meaning 2 US states left and the rest is Gilead?

Yeah, the flag has just two stars for Alaska and Hawaii so it’s safe to assume that everywhere else is Gilead and I agree, I’m going to miss Lawrence too

It was semi explained in one episode, where Hannah had gone home early from school and was in bed while the news was showing footage of the 4 attacks. I'm not sure if it was the same episode but Emily's boss wanted to hide her away in an office because a student had discovered that she was gay. The boss was also gay and was hanged with the word traitor in the ground beneath him.

So there was the violence of the attacks but it was in a climate where persecution of certain groups was accepted.

You are right just two US states, but there is also the Republic of Texas which is separate to both the US and Gilead.

There is? I don’t remember the republic of Texas. Have we seen it in the show? Why didn’t June go there instead of Canada?

I found this episode quite devastating, had a good sob while they were boarding the plane 😭 I watched it last night and it's still spinning round my head today. It was right for both of them to die I think. Nick realised June would never trust him again after his betrayal so he decided to give his life as a commander with Rose and the baby a go instead. He started off as morally grey but their was no coming back for him after Jezebel's.

And Commander Lawrence was 'The Architect of Gilead' after all. But I really felt his sacrifice.

Canada is much closer to Boston than Texas.

Wonder how it will end. An hour to show everything ?

The series has gone way past the storyline of the book - I won't say how the book ends because I can't remember exactly but it wouldn't really mean anything for the end of the series anyway.

I hope they get some kind of happy ending, or at least hopeful. I was dreading watching episode 9 as I could see the episode title was 'Execution'. But June is Teflon of course 😁. I feel it was a fitting end for Nick (and conveniently gets rid of the love triangle!) - he made his choice. Sad about Lawrence though, but what future was there for him? He's now atoned for his part in the creation of Gilead.

The plot of the Handmaid's Tale book was covered in series 1 of the show basically, it has expanded so much since then. Hopefully with the approval of Margaret Atwood (is she still an executive producer or whatever?)

Not sure about The Testaments as I have not read to the end of that. I think you have to take it as its own separate thing really, though it has some characters in common with THT.

Google led me to a Cosmopolitan page where they say that the show put out a map on Twitter a few years back.

Ch4 on demand will have it from Saturday, if that's any good. I'm going away too and will have to watch it on my tiny phone 😱

Odd that it hasn’t been reinstated.

Not sure what the problem was - it was a Cosmopolitan page from a few years ago which had a screenshot of a Tweet put out by the production company. The Tweet had the map.

You can watch all episodes on dailymotion now as long as you absolutely swear not to post any spoilers!

@dapsnotplimsolls put the link on the last thread. I would warn watch out for spoilers as the episode doesn’t always match the title but I think we are past this now
