The new period drama is based on the true story of the aristocratic English family.

On weekly on u/drama thur 9pm

The official synopsis for the series says: "Outrageous is the story of six aristocratic sisters who refused to play by the rules, their often-scandalous lives making headlines around the world."

It centers on the aristocratic, fast-living sisters — Nancy, Pamela, Diana, Unity, Jessica and Deborah — as their controversial romantic and political lives cause a stir in 1930s high society, leading to scandal, extremism and even prison as they step away from the conventions of the time.

The series also looks at their very different personalities, what caused them to take their contrasting paths in life, and the intricacies of their family bonds and betrayals.

The series stars Bridgerton (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/bridgerton-season-4-release-date/)'s Bessie Carter as Nancy Mitford, Zoe Brough as Jessica Mitford, Shannon Watson as Unity Mitford, Orla Hill as Deborah Mitford, James Purefoy as Farve and Anna Chancellor as Muv.

The rest of the cast also includes Joanna Vanderham as Diana Mitford, Isobel Jesper Jones as Pam Mitford, Toby Regbo as Tom Mitford, Joshua Sasse as Oswald Mosley, Jamie Blackley as Peter Rodd, James Musgrave as Hami
sh Erskine, Calam Lynch as Bryan Guinness and Will Attenborough as Joss.

Outrageous UKTV
It continues: "Set against the gathering storm clouds of the 1930s, masked by the decadence, frivolity and lavishness of British high society, Outrageous will bring the full, uncensored story of the Mitford sisters to the screen for the first time - a story of family bonds and betrayals, public scandal, political extremism, love, heartache and even imprisonment.

The show explores how and why these women, unwilling to conform, were so ahead of their time - and what drove them to take their very different, complex and often dangerous paths.

"A family saga like no other, this is the Mitfords as they really were: unapologetic, outrageous and utterly human."

I’m not always a lover of period dramas , hence why never got into the other famous drama that I can’t R.E.M. the name of 😂😂😂

Downton abbey ? Or something like that

Thank you! Looks interesting

ProudAuntie3 · 13/06/2025 22:47

I am watching as my niece is playing Unity Mitford, her big break. I would have watched anyway and know the history of the sisters and they were fascinating.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/06/2025 23:06

Enjoyed reading the Mitford sisters' letters book, so will definitely watch this one.

CaveMum · 19/06/2025 22:58

Oops, hadn’t realised there was another thread - I started my own!

I enjoyed ep1, I don’t know a huge amount about all of the sisters - just the basics about Nancy (writer), Diana (nazi), Unity (nazi) and Deborah (Chatsworth).

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/06/2025 23:26

No worries @CaveMum. never a prob to have a few threads about tv shows

I was at work last night so haven’t seen it

I'm half way through episode 1 and enjoying it, although I think Jessica and Deborah look too old - especially Deborah, she was 11 in 1931 when the series starts and the actress playing her is 23! Bessie Carter is a dead ringer for Nancy though, and the costumes look lovely

Clawdy · 20/06/2025 22:15

Just watched first and enjoyed it. The acting is great.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/06/2025 23:04

I like Anna Chancellor as the mother. She conveys a loving stand-offishness which would have been quite normal for the time.

I like Diana and also Unity, what a fruit loop! The actress playing Nancy is very likeable but seems to look a little old for the part?

But I do feel a bit uneasy about the whole premise of the series and it being made at the present time when there are huge issues around anti-Semitism. The first couple of episodes certainly felt like they were glamorising facism, but I know it will probably unfold differently and reflect historical events...

SydneyCarton · 23/06/2025 11:42

Bessie Carter is 31 and Nancy refers to herself in E1 as 28, so not too much of an age difference.

The Mitfords did originally sympathise with fascism (apart from Nancy and Jessica, and Deborah probably too young) but once war was declared David Mitford became very anti-German - not sure what point the series goes up to. The parents certainly disapproved of Diana's relationship with Mosley.

At one point the family actually followed a kosher diet because David believed Jews didn't get cancer due to the food they ate Hmm The girls had to get permission to eat sausages when staying at friend's houses.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/06/2025 20:11

That’s interesting @SydneyCarton

Bessie Carter is the daughter of Imelda Staunton and Jim Carter.

Bobbieiris · 24/06/2025 18:49

I’m really enjoying this! What an odd family! I had heard of Nancy Mitford and the Mitfords in general but didn’t know anything about them. Really fascinating and of course love the costumes! Isn’t Unity a fruit loop!! I’ve ordered a biography of them from Vinted as enjoying this series so much

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/06/2025 20:13

I hadn’t even heard of them

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/06/2025 21:13

Well, I've just finished watching the whole series and absolutely loved it!
@ProudAuntie3 - you must be very proud indeed!

There must be a second series, and hopefully soon. In the meantime, I'll be ordering the book.

ProudAuntie3 · 24/06/2025 23:49

@BoreOfWhabylon All the family are delighted.

I adored the wedding dress when Diana married Mosley, really breathtakingly beautiful. I think the costumes were amazing. I may try and get hold of the published letters between the sisters now that’s something I would love to read.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/06/2025 06:36

No spoilers please. This is tv based and we’ve only seen e1
