The new period drama is based on the true story of the aristocratic English family.

On weekly on u/drama thur 9pm

The official synopsis for the series says: "Outrageous is the story of six aristocratic sisters who refused to play by the rules, their often-scandalous lives making headlines around the world."

It centers on the aristocratic, fast-living sisters — Nancy, Pamela, Diana, Unity, Jessica and Deborah — as their controversial romantic and political lives cause a stir in 1930s high society, leading to scandal, extremism and even prison as they step away from the conventions of the time.

The series also looks at their very different personalities, what caused them to take their contrasting paths in life, and the intricacies of their family bonds and betrayals.

The series stars Bridgerton (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/bridgerton-season-4-release-date/)'s Bessie Carter as Nancy Mitford, Zoe Brough as Jessica Mitford, Shannon Watson as Unity Mitford, Orla Hill as Deborah Mitford, James Purefoy as Farve and Anna Chancellor as Muv.

The rest of the cast also includes Joanna Vanderham as Diana Mitford, Isobel Jesper Jones as Pam Mitford, Toby Regbo as Tom Mitford, Joshua Sasse as Oswald Mosley, Jamie Blackley as Peter Rodd, James Musgrave as Hami
sh Erskine, Calam Lynch as Bryan Guinness and Will Attenborough as Joss.

Outrageous UKTV
It continues: "Set against the gathering storm clouds of the 1930s, masked by the decadence, frivolity and lavishness of British high society, Outrageous will bring the full, uncensored story of the Mitford sisters to the screen for the first time - a story of family bonds and betrayals, public scandal, political extremism, love, heartache and even imprisonment.

The show explores how and why these women, unwilling to conform, were so ahead of their time - and what drove them to take their very different, complex and often dangerous paths.

"A family saga like no other, this is the Mitfords as they really were: unapologetic, outrageous and utterly human."

I’m not always a lover of period dramas , hence why never got into the other famous drama that I can’t R.E.M. the name of 😂😂😂

Downton abbey ? Or something like that

I think if you have read all the many biographies and books they themselves wrote, this is a lot weaker. Although Bessie Carter is excellent.

SydneyCarton · 25/06/2025 12:56

@ProudAuntie3 In later life Pam Mitford lived for several years with an Italian woman, and Jessica wrote to one of the others "Pam's become a you-know-what-bian" 😂

MrsLargeEmbodied · 26/06/2025 06:24

it didnt grab me
quite interesting though

I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ve read the Mary S. Lovell book that this is based on, and also their letters and find them a fascinating family. It certainly encapsulated the time when a lot of the upper classes had that leaning towards fascism - there’s another good novel by Cressida Conolly called After The Party which deals with the same subject - and there was the rumours about the Duke of Windsor and his links to the Nazi party. I’m looking forward to seeing the whole series.

@ProudAuntie3 Your niece gave a terrific performance for her debut, you must be proud indeed!

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/06/2025 21:52

Going to start this now as baby is settled

Enjoyed last night's episode. Poor Nancy and (obviously) Unity is utterly batshit - and not in a good/funny way. Though I guess with the middle name "Valkyrie" could she have gone down any other path?!

Oh and according to Wikipedia, she was apparently conceived in the Canadian town of Swastika..

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/06/2025 20:49

Meant Nancy not Diana /Hamish

but marrying Peter seem just as bad. He was obv crap in bed and didn’t care about her pleasure

and seems all he wants is her money

when Diana fell down the stairs after Oswald left / I did wonder if fainted and preg or delib threw self down Stairs

Loving this so far. I feel for Nancy.

SydneyCarton · 30/06/2025 11:42

Not sure how it played out in real life, but I felt angry with Tom for clearly having known Hamish was gay - having had an affair with him himself! - and still letting his sister hang on for FOUR YEARS waiting for a proposal which he (Tom) should have known would never happen. Why on earth didn't he speak to her sooner?? That said, she seemed very naïve since everyone else in their social circle seemed to know.

I had wondered whether these days Unity might be diagnosed as autistic - the obsessive interests and disregard for social norms and behaviour seem to suggest it.

I think the fall was accidental, she just wasn't paying attention because she was angry and upset, but it added to her humiliation.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/06/2025 20:24

Yes big brother should have said something

will watch next week. Busy weekend ahead! And Wimbledon 😁

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/07/2025 14:01

Why chilling ?

OP posts:
CaveMum · 05/07/2025 14:15

I meant chilling in terms of Unity and her Hitler obsession and Diana’s blind loyalty to Mosley despite his reprehensible views.

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/07/2025 18:41

Oh. Yes she is almost in awe of him and now going to eat with him

I've been reading and watching everything I could find on the Mitfords for many years so I feel I 'know' them fairly well. I think this TV series is excellent! The costumes (including 1st class shoes) are perfection.

The only things that annoy me are the ad breaks, which we don't have the option of removing it seems.

NewAgeNewMe · 05/07/2025 20:41

It’s fascinating. Enjoying so much. Can really see her dad in Bessie carter.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/07/2025 19:40
