The new period drama is based on the true story of the aristocratic English family.

On weekly on u/drama thur 9pm

The official synopsis for the series says: "Outrageous is the story of six aristocratic sisters who refused to play by the rules, their often-scandalous lives making headlines around the world."

It centers on the aristocratic, fast-living sisters — Nancy, Pamela, Diana, Unity, Jessica and Deborah — as their controversial romantic and political lives cause a stir in 1930s high society, leading to scandal, extremism and even prison as they step away from the conventions of the time.

The series also looks at their very different personalities, what caused them to take their contrasting paths in life, and the intricacies of their family bonds and betrayals.

The series stars Bridgerton (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/bridgerton-season-4-release-date/)'s Bessie Carter as Nancy Mitford, Zoe Brough as Jessica Mitford, Shannon Watson as Unity Mitford, Orla Hill as Deborah Mitford, James Purefoy as Farve and Anna Chancellor as Muv.

The rest of the cast also includes Joanna Vanderham as Diana Mitford, Isobel Jesper Jones as Pam Mitford, Toby Regbo as Tom Mitford, Joshua Sasse as Oswald Mosley, Jamie Blackley as Peter Rodd, James Musgrave as Hami
sh Erskine, Calam Lynch as Bryan Guinness and Will Attenborough as Joss.

Outrageous UKTV
It continues: "Set against the gathering storm clouds of the 1930s, masked by the decadence, frivolity and lavishness of British high society, Outrageous will bring the full, uncensored story of the Mitford sisters to the screen for the first time - a story of family bonds and betrayals, public scandal, political extremism, love, heartache and even imprisonment.

The show explores how and why these women, unwilling to conform, were so ahead of their time - and what drove them to take their very different, complex and often dangerous paths.

"A family saga like no other, this is the Mitfords as they really were: unapologetic, outrageous and utterly human."

I’m not always a lover of period dramas , hence why never got into the other famous drama that I can’t R.E.M. the name of 😂😂😂

Downton abbey ? Or something like that

Good episode last night. Poor Nancy.

Felt a little sorry for Diana at one point but knowing where her story leads it quickly went away again.

Those nicknames for each other!

Those nicknames for each other!

Still pretty common in some circles, particularly the horsey set! I met one lady in her 70s at the time (about 20 years ago) that everyone called “Bonk” and I know another lady (in her 40s) who uses her nickname of “Minty” as her professional name.

See also the top level British eventer “Piggy” French.

I'm assuming this only goes up to the beginning of WW2? I hope they do a follow-up - I'd like to see Nancy meet up with Gaston Palewski, to say nothing of Mosley being banged up.

@Internaut I’ve just finished After The Party by Cressida Connolly, which is about a woman who comes back to England after years of living abroad and along with her husband and sister becomes involved with the British Union of Fascists, or British Union as it had become by then (late 1930s). Mosley and Diana feature as peripheral characters and there is a lot of fascinating detail about Party members being interned during the war, attitudes towards them etc, also BUF summer camps on the south coast which I wasn’t aware of.

SydneyCarton · 01/08/2025 18:56

There’s also a chapter on the BUF female internees in Bad Girls by Caitlin Davies, which is a history of Holloway prison. If I remember correctly Mosley was actually transferred to Holloway to join Diana when they were allowed to be in married quarters.

Clawdy · 02/08/2025 09:28

The only time I felt sorry for Diana was reading a letter sent to her sister Pamela. When she was imprisoned the children were taken from her and she was still breastfeeding the youngest. Pamela took them in, and Diana''s letter was imploring her to send letters about everything the children did, she added "No detail is too small."

The letter that sticks in my mind was when one of them - I think it was Deborah - had been to visit Jessica in America. She was very snotty about the fact that the people living in the flat underneath were black and claimed that the flat smelt as a result. I think she was very much on Diana's side of the fence politically.
