How can he be so funny yet be so incompetent?

Anyone watching?

Well I’ve now watched it all and it’s definitely the worst of the series so far .Way too much pub , not enough farm and when they were doing farm / farmers it was much about how poor and hard done by they are . Last time I looked nobody was forced to be a farmer . The pub ladies were awful , the chef came across as very miserable and there was definitely not enough Lisa . Surely common sense says you do a soft launch etc so it was very obviously planned for being chaos just for the programme . As for the way people were piling their plates at the carvery it’s frankly disgusting , do people really not know how to behave in public . The previous series have been nicely balanced with disaster and laughs , this was just stressful .

the80sweregreat · 08/06/2025 16:22

The head chef was scary. I appreciate it’s a hard job but he did look particularly unfriendly. Knew his trade , but probably hard to please.
I liked David the butcher , he seems a bit more approachable and kind and probably just gets on with it. Did they sort out the preservatives problem? Or just have to import in the end ?
Surely not absolutely eveything can be made or sourced locally? The rules are good ones, but it’s made life harder and more expensive for them too.

I thought the last episode was better than the one before it. It showed how much humility JC has learned/developed over the 4 series - he would never have taken Caleb a sandwich to say sorry in series 1. I agree that those two women were either edited really badly or had ambitions way beyond even the most extravagant budget. The things they had a go about were all teething problems or they should have said something much earlier.

Loved the Rachel Reeves photo slipped in - my son missed it so I had to rewind and watch again!!
I'm so glad he found a proper job for Richard Ham!

whiterabbity · 08/06/2025 14:51

Yes @derxa, I said to my DH and we had to rewind so he could spot it- why was it half a second??

Loved the series but thought that he was being too optimistic re opening date. The two women really annoyed me, they found it hilarious that it was costing him so much money and were playing interior design with his funds. Also didn’t understand why they didn’t do a booking system or soft launch, look what happened when he opened his shop!

Im surprised they didn’t put horns on her head. I wonder if they will address this in the next series. I’m a farmer but not big enough for this tax to affect us. However our industry has been hit with blow after blow. So cruel.

Golidlocksandthethreeswears · 09/06/2025 06:49

We caught up with the last 2 episodes this weekend.

I do wonder what this series would be like without the pub. Yes it took up a lot but the weather last year was so awful, how many episodes could they have got out of "it's raining, we can't do anything"?

We did laugh when RR popped up. JC is likely to be hit hard by things like employers NI contributions etc. too with the number of people he employs. Its a big pub with a large restaurant, I don't know how many staff there must be?

I also appreciated the transparency around how stressful it all was. I work in mental health in a rural county and just being a farmer/ex farmer is a bit risk factor for suicide for a multitude of reasons, financial pressures increasingly so. There are a number of local initiatives including MH drop in services at local livestock markets now.

Also glad that Richard Ham lives on 💚

Really enjoyed it but for me, too much pub stuff. I like the farming. I am also one who generally didn’t like JC but love him in this. I particularly liked him bringing back the cooperative to supply the pub. He does seem to have farming interests at heart.

I agree the two pub females weren’t great. I have read this morning that reviving pubs is their business. I wonder how that’s going to go for the, now.

Harriet was fabulous. What happened to the restaurant on Diddly Squat. I can’t remember. I thought it opened and was ok.

Sue and Rachel generally buy the pub themselves, get it up and running, and then sell on once profitable. They’re pretty successful locally and have a couple of their own premises currently so I imagine they’ll be fine! I haven’t seen the series yet but it doesn’t sound like they come off well

Saucery · 16/06/2025 13:22

I didn’t particularly warm to them, but bore in mind that generous with his mistakes though he mostly is, JC has control over the final edits, so there was probably a heck of a lot more back story to their business relationship.

Agree with everything that’s been said.
Caleb’s show looked dreadful
Harriet is extraordinary! What a super-star!
West Oxfordshire council must just loathe him - they get such bad press!

I've dealt with them too in the past, they deserve their reputation, they were bloody hard work!

CaptainSevenofNine · 16/06/2025 13:42

I love Charlie. He’s so competent. Intelligent. Responsible. Mature. A leader. Knowledgeable. Patient. He’s fab.

AliasGraced · 06/06/2025 07:46

Apparently the pub is doing what the farm shop did. Hordes of people, endless traffic and it’s put another pub down the road out of business. So you can see why the council had concerns. Apparently the prices are eye watering high too.

The prices are prohibitive imo, especially as you have to queue to order apparently, I'm not not paying that much when my order isn't taken at the table. It's not accessible and they're crap with allergies which I can't risk. We wanted to go but the Trip advisor reviews put us off.

I live in a house of men and have watched so many Top Gears over the years I have come to loathe JC but absolutely love him on the farm 😊

Olivesforteatonighty · 27/06/2025 04:16

I’m loving this show. I used to detest JC but he’s just brilliant on this. Some farmers that I know love how he’s put farming into the spotlight.

What an inspiration Harriet is! She’s so bloody talented. I’d love to see more of her.

Lovely photo of her!!

TheeNotoriousPIG · 03/07/2025 21:14

I am another one who loathed him on Top Gear, but actually came to like him on Clarkson's Farm... possibly because he didn't come across as an insufferable know-it-all anymore 😳

I admit that I haven't watched every episode (rather like Harriet admitted in her interview, I haven't had the time to do that!), but- having discussed it with other farming folk- this series features far too much about the pub! Oh, and the general consensus is that we all like Harriet, and agree that life is too short to learn about celebrities. Farming knowledge is much more useful!

I'm hoping that Jeremy Clarkson goes to experience life on a dairy farm, though... just because it's a world away from beef and sheep farming, and there's so much more to learn! It might also help the public to understand us a bit better, too.

Farmers might be forced to be farmers... because when we go inside and sit down, we invariably doze off because it's too hot and boring indoors! I was recently at a farm-related event and ended up eating far too many biscuits just to stay awake...

AliasGraced · 03/07/2025 22:35

It’s great that Harriet and Caleb have made lots of money off the back of all of this. It’s set them up for life. They’re both lovely people.

Olivesforteatonighty · 04/07/2025 02:49

I like how Clarkson has embraced his team of helpers. It’s lovely to see them all gathered and getting on, despite their very different backgrounds. Clarkson clearly has a great fondness for these people who have helped him in his endeavours.

Which makes you wonder quite how much of that story about him getting arsey about a meal was genuine ?

I imagine it was true. He can get very angry when stressed. The scene where he gets up and walks away from the two women telling him all the things that were wrong with the pub when he was already stressed to bits could quite easily have ended differently when he was younger and if they weren't female and if the cameras weren't there. He also punched Piers Morgan. That doesn't mean I don't like him just that people can do things out of character when pushed.

DemonsRocks · 17/08/2025 22:30

Just caught up. I'd forgotten about his beef with Piers but they're obviously friends now as Piers was one of the pub owners he got advice from.
I blitzed all episodes and now I'm gutted. May have to start from season 1 again.

Paul2023 · 08/01/2026 14:31

I’ve just binged watched this whole series this week. Looks like JC has become a victim of his own success when it comes to the pub.
