How can he be so funny yet be so incompetent?

Anyone watching?

Loved the cruise control malfunction.

We had a talk at work from a colleague who is a land agent similar to Charlie. They had worked at a National Trust estate. Was fascinating and sounded like a great job.

I guess that rural pubs suffer more because people can’t get to them and home again that easily ( unless you have a designated driver or a cab booked )
Where I live , people tend to walk up into town and home again or it’s cheap for a taxi if you can’t get the bus. Pubs haven’t really suffered that much where I am and always look full , have bands on etc.
JC is taking a risk becoming a publican and it’s not easy getting an alcohol licence , ( so I’m told ) he’ll need a decent manager and chef and so on.
I admire his risk taking when most 60 plus people are looking to retire or slow down a bit. Plus with the shop and the farm it’s all full on. Makes me feel lazy ( but then I haven’t any money to invest in such things !)

We stayed in a hotel near Clarkson’s pub a few years ago. I think it was called the Windmill. I remember when we drove past it thinking that it must really struggle because you can’t possibly walk to it and taxis are probably not reliable. However the pull of JC does encourage people to make more effort to get there.
I agree that Charlie is my favourite. I think he handles Jeremy brilliantly. My favourite Charlie scene was when he was delivered to explain to Lisa that she had to stick strictly to locally produced products for the farm shop. Ooh that reminds me Lisa is my favourite too!! She rolls her sleeves up and gets stuck in.

the80sweregreat · 31/05/2025 20:07

Charlie is just lovely isn’t he! I do like him , his knowledge is undeniable
JC is lucky having so many people around him who know their trade !

AliasGraced · 31/05/2025 21:35

Does anyone else think Jeremy is just being ripped off left right and centre? He just seems to pay whatever figure all these people charge. How rich is he?? The quotes are ridiculously high and they keep increasing the future due to ‘costs’. He does seem very naive.

Yep.

That pair in the pub with their 40 grand ‘jumbrellas’ need to be told to do one.

Tallisker · 01/06/2025 16:19

It was brilliant seeing Harriet being both glamorous and really capable handling that huge tractor. Loved her insta stuff. Good for Jeremy and co for platforming young farmers as they do. I was so impressed with Kaleb’s knowledge and skills in the first series, and now Harriet equally skilled and knowledgeable. Love it. And it’s funny. There’s an excellent photo of Lisa sitting in one of the tractor wheels, it’s such a good photo.

And laughing about it, too.

The woman on the left thought she had to explain that if the umbrella wasn’t big enough, her friend wouldn’t get wet, but she would. 🙄

Extraordinary.

I don’t think they’d be quite so glib if they had to hand over £120k for outdoor furniture.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 01/06/2025 16:59

I saw Harriet on TikTok after the first episode, she has managed to buy her first house with the proceeds of that show and was thanking JC. Like the way he steers the youngsters to build their lives.

They’re all pisstakers.

You could get a big canvas ‘sail’ made for relative pennies and would look much smarter.

Really!! How much was she paid I wonder? He just seems to throw money around like confetti. Good for her though. I think she is absolutely amazing.

the80sweregreat · 01/06/2025 17:22

Well done Harriett! She was fun and very knowledgeable. I like hearing about the youngsters doing well. She deserves it.

Just seen when Caleb met Harriet…. Loved it! Especially when Caleb told Jeremy he was “still a c*nt”!

I loved that scene! It was in itself very funny but I respect JC for trying to guide KC and KC for being mature enough to listen.

I think the Amazon contract for 5 series of Clarksons Farm was for £200 million?

Charlie owns a few companies, the largest being an agricultural consultancy firm. I went down a bit of a Google rabbit hole whilst watching the last series, can't remember figures but he will definitely have a healthy bank balance!

As for Young Farmers, they are the group of people that "work hard, play hard" was invented for. I've been to YF events where they have drunk the venue dry...and they're still up for work at the crack of dawn the next day 🤯

My school friend grew up on a farm and she dragged me to a lot of YF events in our late teens. Those guys really know how to let off steam! I have great memories from those days. Harriet definitely reminded of a couple of girls I knew in that circle.

mondaytosunday · 01/06/2025 17:55

I love the show, and have gone from thinking Clarkson is a complete wanker to thinking he is at least not afraid to make an utter fool of himself, plus respect for highlighting the issues farmers face. The cast are great characters, I really like Charlie. Lisa is a bit dim though.

the80sweregreat · 01/06/2025 18:00

Ive never met her , but I don’t think Lisa is dim ! Not at all. She is very savvy , but probably prefers to stay in the background and just get on with the shop and her other projects.
She is very different to JC, might be why they get on so well ( and she is funny )
I doubt we’d be friends if I were part of that ‘ chipping Norton’ set , ( would never happen ) but I feel she’d be pleasant enough and just wants to be successful in her own right. That’s the impression I have anyway.

Littletreefrog · 01/06/2025 18:01

Apart from the two women in the pub who just seemed to want to play 'pub' with his money I don't think he minds not negotiating the builders and livestock sellers etc down too much as he knows they need the money and he can afford it with his Amazon Prime money.

I loved that he really wanted the pub so he could get his farming friends to supply it which was originally the idea of the restaurant.

babystarsandmoon · 01/06/2025 18:04

I did not like the women brought in to set up the pub kitchen or the chef.

The women just wanted to spend money and were clearly used to rinsing through other peoples money.

Young Farmers! Best days of our lives. The range of activities is amazing. Speech making, stock judging, talent competitions as well as dances and the usual getting pissed. It is brilliant for giving people confidence. I notice that a lot of the girls look like Harriet. Longish blonde hair eyelashes posh leather boots and shorts if the Royal Highland Show is anything to go by

She does come out with some shite though. Like how not all of a pigs nipples will have milk if she doesn’t give birth to that particular piglet.

Even when Harriet said “well you gave birth to one child, does that mean only one breast filled with milk” and she doubled down with how it’s different with pigs, rather than admit that yeah that probably wasn’t right

200 million?!! No wonder he’s throwing money around.

200 million?!! No wonder he’s throwing money around.

The Amazon Grand tour show contract was also worth £160m for less than 40 episodes- not that he gets all of that - nor the £200m for the farm show- the production company will have a fair whack - but after factoring in the £3m he gets from presenting Millionaire, the sale of the rights to Top Gear he held and not forgetting he was the highest paid bbc star for a while, I don’t think he’s checking down the back of the sofa for money to put into the electric meter 😉

The 2 women brought in to set up the pub in 6 weeks have to do a tricky job there - and don’t really have much wriggle room to demand discounts when they need everything asap. I agree they come off badly in the show though despite literally being hands on.

Horrace · 04/06/2025 08:11

Jeremy is my ideal man. He's not handsome but character/personality is perfect. I've always been a fan.

the80sweregreat · 04/06/2025 10:01

I like JC too, although I can imagine his wound up people in the past and maybe hard to like at times , but he is so good at entertaining people and he makes me laugh. I know plenty who ‘ can’t stand him ‘ , but they don’t have to watch any of his programmes ( same as I avoid a few tv shows because I’m not keen on the presenters too!)
He has mellowed out a bit , I think doing some farming has grounded him really. Made him realize it’s not all about him maybe !
