😮..I have come across it by accident.

Last year it was was well advertised.
The TARDIS flying on the BBC screen at every opportunity and so.

I do record a lot of my programmes so maybe I missed it ?

But I didn't last year 🤔.

And I really thought they said it was going to be May for the new series ?

Have I been on another planet ? 😂😂😂 !!

Oh, MN has given me 4 equal numbers ones - they are meant to ascend .

I am actually pleased that the cybermen and daleks are on sabbatical. It becomes harder to believe in the peril after the 5 millionth time they are defeated within a couple of episodes.

Oh that times top 20 is controversial! Where is the empty child and his terrifying "are you my mummy" plea? Or Father's day. Or the planet of the Ood. I really need to rewatch some of these.

My understanding (could be wrong) that in order to get agreement from
the license holder to bring the Daleks back, RTD and gang initially had to promise they would be in every series. Presume that fell away with time or with the new Disney deal.

The trouble for me is that the horror of Nine in Dalek when he realised one had escaped the Time War after all he had done was diluted by their Enemy of the Week status thereafter. Until Day of the Doctor, the Doctor’s only possible way to reconcile the genocide of the Moment was to think he had killed all the Daleks too. So every appearance thereafter should have been soul crushing.

Well that Times list is just wrong. If I rated 20 we'd be here all day, but I can offer

5 -The husbands of River Song - unfortunate for the introduction of Nardole and underuse of Greg Davies, but the end had me weeping - and all done without snogging.

  1. Human Nature/Family of blood - poor old John Smith, marvellous Martha
  1. Journeys end - Donna getting her brain wiped. I initially had issues with Catherine Tate - I was weeping at the end - to have all of her adventures taken away, to 'just be a temp' again. The sense of companion as representative of fandom - could that be us? Did we travel and we've forgotten? More tears.
  1. The doctor the widow and the wardrobe - my favourite Xmas episode. Even more tears. I see a pattern.
  1. Vincent & the Doctor. Combining two of my favourite things - & the doctors awkwardness around VVGs mental health and that he couldn't fix everything.

& here we currently are, twirling in a kilt and calling everyone 'babes'.

I love Hell. Bent /. Heaven Sent

also Extremis and Magicians apprentice

but then I loved 12

i also like Nightmare In Silver, The Power Of Three, The Doctor’s Wife, Midnight, Fear Her

I’m a fan of Billie Piper the actor, if she hadn’t been in the show before I would be hopeful for a Piper season. I cannot see how they can reconcile her already being established as the very human Rose with being a time lord. I also have the niggling fear that this is yet another hook which Davies would use to shoehorn Tenant in at every opportunity.

Someone completely fresh is the norm and would be better.

It's usually a sign of decay when they start having to have these regular appearances from actors who were there when people still liked the series. It seems like a sort of trick, of we'll have DT, we'll have BP, in order to boost those numbers a bit.

It's usually progressively less effective over time though. I think DT does it so often because he's a mug. I imagine BP is getting paid a mint.

Completely forgot to mention the Doctor Who podcast from the camper van team.

They have now released their reviews of the final story and the series 2 wrap up. Episode 401 is their discussion of the final episode, 402 is listener comments and discussion based on those comments. Amongst other things they discuss Disney pulling out, some of the technical consequences and don’t pull their punches on any shortcomings.

I generally find this podcast worth a listen, it often throws up ideas I had missed or hadn’t considered. In general the responses are similar to here and I was pleased to here a degree of frustration with the “rewriting the timeline” approach (which frankly destroyed The Flash in its reboot). There is no jeopardy when the SF equivalent of “it was all a dream” is used excessively. I also liked the comment along the lines of “can we please let the Tennant era go at last”- I think I’ve said here before that much as I love Billie Piper, RTD overuses Tennant (I’m not a fan and his reinsertion too often is an irritant).

I’ve been filling the gap partly be restarting watching from the 2005 reboot, planning to work my way through them all gradually. There is no doubt that some of the early writing was a lot tighter and better structured than the more chaotic recent seasons.

I did once start watching from the very beginning but had to admit its a bit like starting the Bible from page 1. You very rapidly remember why its not a good idea and no era has been universally great 😀
