A new revenge-thriller called Reunion is heading to the BBC, and it's about to be your new TV obsession.

on mon and Tue for two weeks 7&8 and 14&15

Led by Matthew Gurney alongside 2021 Strictly Come Dancing (https://www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/entertainment/g19859372/strictly-come-dancing-line-up/) winner Rose Ayling-Ellis (https://www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/entertainment/a64231762/code-of-silence-release-date-itv/), and Bad Sisters star Anne-Marie Duff,

The four-part drama follows the journey of Daniel Brennan (Gurney), "a deaf man determined to right his wrongs while unravelling the truth behind the events that led him to prison".

A key feature of the series is its bilingual nature, incorporating both British Sign Language (BSL) and spoken English.

It was written by William Mager, a deaf writer from Sheffield.

Speaking of his character, Gurney said: "Reunion is an amazing storyline and is completely different from my previous work. My character Brennan is on a wildly different journey than that portrayed by normal deaf lives, this portrays a man who is hated within the deaf community."

He added: "It shows how deaf people react and act on screen in an honest and authentic way. We are different to hearing actors, we are so much more visual storytellers, it's not about relying on sound it’s about using your eyes and seeing what is going on in the story."

The synopsis says: "Reunion is an emotional thriller of revenge and redemption following the journey of Daniel Brennan, played by Matthew Gurney (Name Me Lawand, Theatre Ad Infinium), a deaf man determined to right his wrongs while unravelling the truth behind the events that led him to prison.

"Brennan embodies the struggle of a man caught between two worlds, unable to fully integrate into the hearing world and shunned by his closest friends and the wider deaf community following his heinous crime.

Amidst this isolation, Brennan's only meaningful relationship is with his estranged daughter Carly, played by Lara Peake (How to Have Sex, Rivals), who he has not had any contact with since his arrest over a decade ago."

Reunion cast
Matthew Gurney, Lara Peake, Anne-Marie Duff, Eddie Marsan and Rose Ayling-Ellis lead the cast of William Mager's new drama.
Below is a full cast list:
• Matthew Gurney as Daniel Brennan
• Lara Peake as Carly

This sounds interesting , a bit different from the usual dramas .

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/04/2025 13:31

Yes I think it will be thought provoking esp if we see from a deaf persons view

I’m hard of hearing esp with mumbling /background noise /actors on tv hence subtitles

bur least I do hear

must be hard being totally deaf

@Blondeshavemorefun Looking forward to this as well. At first I thought it was The Reunion series with Ioan Gruffudd, which I thought was awful. This looks to be something different.
I do like Rose Ayling-Ellis and the new series she is in will be available on ITVX on 18 May; it’s called Code of Silence.

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/04/2025 23:11

@Umanresourcesi think I have seen an advert for code of silence

It’s where she is hired by the police to lip read what criminals are saying. I’m surprised that’s never been done before.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/04/2025 10:10

I watched half an hour then gave up and went to bed. Not keeping my attention at all.

tennissquare · 07/04/2025 21:50

The acting is good but it's quite dark / slow.

I've got it recorded, but frankly it looks a bit depressing, and not sure I'm up for that. Less than rave reviews here don't encourage me.

FannyCradocksDoughnut · 07/04/2025 22:34

Well that was different! I agree with a pp very slow and dark. I'm intrigued to see what happens though so will stick with it. I wonder when or if he insured and taxed that car. I can't believe the engine started after being garaged for 10yrs!?

SnowFrogJelly · 07/04/2025 23:04

What a tear jerker 😥
oops wrong thread!

Wingedharpy · 08/04/2025 00:04

I found it a bit all over the place with the story telling.
Difficult to figure out time lines as sometimes the difference between the then and now wasn't very clear.
Lighting a bit grim in parts so hard to see what was going on - and that, coupled with having to read subtitles, made it a bit too much like hard work.
Having said all that, I will watch the next episode as it's on tomorrow - if I had to wait until next week, I probably wouldn't bother.

I agree.. I watched till the end but was very underwhelmed, I wanted to know more about why he killed someone

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/04/2025 10:54

@FannyCradocksDoughnut and @Wingedharpy you will have to come back and say if e2 is better

i only watched the first 5 minutes with DD because she thought it was a Real Housewives Reunion. She was very disappointed ☹️ 😂

purpleme12 · 08/04/2025 15:53

I will carry on watching and see how it goes

Although I agree that it's not edge of your seat stuff!

well I'm finding it absolutely gripping - just finished watching third episode which is nail biting stuff - and is followed by a piece on making the film, the actors who learned BSL and lots of the production team are Deaf too!

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/04/2025 21:57

Glad you are enjoying it

it’s rare for me to turn something off and as semi deaf I thought I would enjoy if that’s the right word - more
