A new revenge-thriller called Reunion is heading to the BBC, and it's about to be your new TV obsession.

on mon and Tue for two weeks 7&8 and 14&15

Led by Matthew Gurney alongside 2021 Strictly Come Dancing (https://www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/entertainment/g19859372/strictly-come-dancing-line-up/) winner Rose Ayling-Ellis (https://www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/entertainment/a64231762/code-of-silence-release-date-itv/), and Bad Sisters star Anne-Marie Duff,

The four-part drama follows the journey of Daniel Brennan (Gurney), "a deaf man determined to right his wrongs while unravelling the truth behind the events that led him to prison".

A key feature of the series is its bilingual nature, incorporating both British Sign Language (BSL) and spoken English.

It was written by William Mager, a deaf writer from Sheffield.

Speaking of his character, Gurney said: "Reunion is an amazing storyline and is completely different from my previous work. My character Brennan is on a wildly different journey than that portrayed by normal deaf lives, this portrays a man who is hated within the deaf community."

He added: "It shows how deaf people react and act on screen in an honest and authentic way. We are different to hearing actors, we are so much more visual storytellers, it's not about relying on sound it’s about using your eyes and seeing what is going on in the story."

The synopsis says: "Reunion is an emotional thriller of revenge and redemption following the journey of Daniel Brennan, played by Matthew Gurney (Name Me Lawand, Theatre Ad Infinium), a deaf man determined to right his wrongs while unravelling the truth behind the events that led him to prison.

"Brennan embodies the struggle of a man caught between two worlds, unable to fully integrate into the hearing world and shunned by his closest friends and the wider deaf community following his heinous crime.

Amidst this isolation, Brennan's only meaningful relationship is with his estranged daughter Carly, played by Lara Peake (How to Have Sex, Rivals), who he has not had any contact with since his arrest over a decade ago."

Reunion cast
Matthew Gurney, Lara Peake, Anne-Marie Duff, Eddie Marsan and Rose Ayling-Ellis lead the cast of William Mager's new drama.
Below is a full cast list:

I found EP 2 much more gripping than EP 1 and now I’m totally invested in finding out what happened as I’ve started to formulate some theories!

NorthernGnashers · 08/04/2025 22:06

Just watched episode 2, think I know why Brennan is so angry but thread says "no spoilers". The lead actor is gorgeous, captivating and magnetic. He looks haunted, just like the character he is playing.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/04/2025 22:07

If haven’t seen it all then it’s a guess so guess away

we like to speculate on threads

Some kind of historic abuse at the deaf school perhaps? Ray advising Brennan to put it behind him and move on when he confides in him but that’s not going to happen…..I assume Ray was killed by accident but haven’t got any further than that! I’m watching in real time so this is no kind of spoiler btw! 🤣

NorthernGnashers · 08/04/2025 22:19

@theresnoonequitelikegrandma

Yes, that's exactly what I thought.
I hope Matthew Gurney does more television work after this series.

Agree he is my main reason for watching!

repeatpleaseagain · 09/04/2025 07:53

I am being greedy and binging on Iplayer - especially as being deaf and only now learning BSL in old age ( am old enough to be the generation that wasnt allowed to learn to sign) am having fun trying to keep up . Hope all you other watchers get swept up in the story soon!

FannyCradocksDoughnut · 09/04/2025 07:55

After watching ep2 I'm finding this really interesting! I'm guessing that this is portraying things that can really happen when a deaf person is in prison. The poor sod wasn't told about his wife dying in a timely fashion, due to him not being able to read his letters and was only informed when someone came in to help him read them! Then when he got angry about this he had 42 days added on to his sentence!!!
I'm also wondering if the Steven character (mothers boyfriend) has some kind of extra agenda??
It's definitely worth persevering with Blondes, give it another try!

MemorableTrenchcoat · 09/04/2025 09:38

The school reunion included a memorial thing for Ray. Brennan, who killed Ray, turns up and starts arguing with people. I was surprised they didn’t run him out of there on a rail.

butterpuffed · 09/04/2025 14:54

This is brilliant , absolutely gripping. Not sure if Brennan actually killed Ray . He drew the knife in the pub but then we saw Ray lying in the street with a knife in his side , so not sure what happened inbetween.

I think the actors in this who aren't deaf , must've had a really hard job learning sign language and their lines and doing both at the same time.

Can't wait to see what happens ~ but I will, @Blondeshavemorefun !

butterpuffed · 09/04/2025 14:59

Meant to add , I think Stephen has a hidden agenda and isn't what he seems .

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/04/2025 17:58

Maybe I need to try it again if some of you think gripping

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 09/04/2025 17:58

I still wouldn't describe it as gripping!

But well, it's good enough for me to keep watching!

theresnoonequitelikegrandma · 09/04/2025 18:11

It definitely got better for me in episode 2…..although that might be because I realised after the first one that I’d actually have to give it my full attention because of the signing and subtitles when I’m used to ‘watching’ TV while also scrolling on my phone/laptop! 🤣🤣

Mystupiddistractedbrain · 09/04/2025 18:59

We are loving this. Even our youngest DS who is 11 enjoyed it. We really liked the mix of signing, subtitles and speech. I can't wait to find out more about what happened. You should definitely give it another go Blondes. You are the Queen of TV on MN. I think you will get into it.

ohcrikeynotagain · 09/04/2025 19:07

I'm loving it. I'm usual a binger but I'm trying to slow down my viewing rather than getting that dopamine hit.

Daniel is fabulous. Well all the cast is really. I always find Eddie Marsan a malevolent figure in a lot of stuff he's in.
