This City Is Ours stars Sean Bean, Julie Graham and Jack McMullen and follows the big troubles of a Liverpool crime family.

the eight-part series follows Michael, a drug-trafficker who reconsiders his life after falling in love.

Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) plays Michael's boss, gang leader Ronnie Phelan, who begins eyeing retirement just as a rival organisation prepares to attack.

Michael (James Nelson-Joyce) dreams of following his boss and leaving his life of crime behind, but faces opposition from Ronnie's ruthless son Jamie (Jack McMullen), who doesn't want to share his father's criminal empire.

This City is Ours is the story of Michael, a man who for all of his adult life has been involved in organised crime... but for the first time in his life, Michael is in love. For the first time in his life, he sees beyond the day-to-day, he sees a future: something to win and something to lose — Diana. "The eight-part series tells the story of Michael and Diana's love affair, set against the disintegration of Michael’s crime gang.

For years, together with his friend Ronnie, Michael has successfully been bringing cocaine into the City and beyond, directly from Columbia; but when a shipment goes missing, then he knows their Kingdom is under attack.

"The drama explores what happens when Ronnie’s son Jamie decides he wants to inherit their kingdom and that there is no longer a place for Michael at the table.

Both Michael and Jamie have bold ideas to modernise the gang and they will battle for control of it.

But Michael’s biggest battle will be to save the woman he loves and the child he has always wanted.

"This is a story about family and love destroyed and corrupted by ambition, pride and greed. It’s a story about power: what we will do to secure and keep it."

James Nelson-Joyce (The Family Pile) will lead the cast as Michael Kavanagh, while Jack McMullen (Hijack) plays his friend and Ronnie's son, Jamie.

I am still watching and enjoying. I think it is done really well. It is taking its time and not killing people constantly which similar drug gang dramas do. I think when she told him she wasn't pregnant the test had been negative, when she tested again at hotel it was positive.

Interesting Ronnie was an informant and seems to have stitched Michael up and got him imprisoned so that will embolden Michael even more to get rid of Jaimie

Jamie seems to be ignoring the fact his dad was a snitch while telling anyone who will list it was Michael. (OK so it was Michael, but still!)

Gloriia · 29/04/2025 20:04

I'm late to this but I'm loving it. The tension, the scenery, the soundtrack, Michael 😍.

Only just seen the one where he's drugged in the ferry and dastardly Jamiiiiee appears to finish him off so I'm hoping he isn't another to add to the alarming death toll. They don't seem the most clever gangster wise but it's still v gripping.

I don’t think Jamie knows his dad was a grass tbh

He does. His mam told him - after he had said it was Michael.

Yes so for a drug smuggling snitch up to his eyes with ocgs you'd think security at the villa would be tight with an armed bodyguard in the shadows.

I am enjoying it though and pleased Michael survived his ghb spiking but omg they're all so hapless. Mind, border forces no better a search of a van full of cushions involved opening and closing the doors Confused.

FreddoSwaggins · 30/04/2025 13:07

And a dog!! Don't forget the dog!! Customs werent looking for a dead body.

The dog would have been trained in drugs, money or guns. Not cadavers.

I know but you'd have thought they'd have maybe moved the cushions a bit anything could've been hidden in there and indeed it was.

To be fair she didn't say "your da was a grass'. It was something along the lines of he gave bits or snippets away when it suited. Can't fully recall her phrasing.

Ditto @CollaterlieSistersSister

irs rare I’m tempted to binge but I do went to know how this ends

even tho Micheal is a killer he seems kind and caring and I went the best for him

no one seemed shocked Jamie went for a blade and that he was cheating

how can he hold his head up now

Kind and caring? 😆People like that care about only themselves. The minute you don't provide them with what they want....It wouldn't surpise me if he'd get rid of Diana if she started to become a threat to him. No honour amongst thieves and all that....

Loving the whole thing, the casting is fantastic. Get amazing actors on board and you're half way to making it a great production. I don't even mind that some of the actors aren't Scousers and the accents aren't always perfect, they're just all so good. The subtle expressions on their faces even when they're not speaking, that speak volumes - really excellent. All the quality TV productions have really excellent casts and this is up there with the best of them.

It's my city and I recognise nearly all the filming locations (even had my wedding do where the christening party was). Waterfront looks amazing, we have some great architecture. 😍I was happy it also showed the fabulous side of the city rather than it making all about run-down scumsville., which the Responder tended to do a bit. DH moaned that it's far fetched or some parts are not realistic but seems very keen to binge it with me so is finding it very entertaining.

I keep wondering if anyone not from these parts has to watch with subtitles on, some of the accents/slang are quite strong. 😆

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/05/2025 18:40

@CurlyhairedAssassin he seems to care for Diana and making sure she is safe

lucky you living near. I love seeing places where know

'Loving the whole thing, the casting is fantastic. Get amazing actors on board and you're half way to making it a great production'

Yes the casting is good. I like the way they don't make them out to be sophisticated criminals, they're all actually very stupid and reckless and anyone of them could come to a grisly end at any time.

They might have big houses, posh cars snd designer clothes but just seem so very lacking in intelligence amd common sense but I bet that is a true portrayal of drug dealers irl.

Freysimo · 05/05/2025 07:27

I'm from that area but DH is Welsh so I often have to translate! I love that they've not modified the accent. James Nelson-Joyce is great as Michael but I've only ever seen him play a Scouser. I wonder if he could do a different role?

Gloriia · 05/05/2025 09:24

'I'm from that area but DH is Welsh so I often have to translate'

I'm nowhere near Liverpool but find them completely understandable. The protected vowel sounds like jaamiiiiie actually make it easier imo.

Jamie's friend Bonehead is funny with his curly perm. He's like Harry Enfield's act act from the 80s 'eh eh calm down la'.

SydneyCarton · 05/05/2025 10:45

@Gloriia I proper laughed when Bonehead actually said “Calm down” 🤣 Pure Harry Enfield!

Rachel’s the smart cookie in the Phelan family. The women are all so much more together than the men.

Seymourscat · 05/05/2025 12:48

James NJ is allegedly up for Bond so he’d have to modify the accent I guess! He’s an actor so of course he should be able to! Though Sean Bean is always Yorkshire so he obviously can’t. Or won’t.

i quite like the idea of a Scouse Bond tbh 🤣. Bond to Blofeld….’calm down lad’

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/05/2025 15:31

Oh wow. Last nights was good
just seen as was working so avoided thread till now

so Ricky isn’t as nice now. How will Micheal get the money

he showed he is powerful

glad he didn’t shoot Jamie - he was the bigger person

now banksy has 2 cars written off

can’t imagine how this will end next week

I do hope there will be a s2

knew I was right that mum didn’t say Ronnie was a grass. She denied it

wondering if it was actually Davy / Jamie and that’s why Ronnie fell out with him

barney and Cheryl should get together 😂

Boneheaded didn’t get rid of the gun. He put it I. The glovebox. Wondering if Jamie will go to prison as police have the bullet

OP posts:
FreddoSwaggins · 05/05/2025 23:39

You'd wonder about Bonehead and the gun. Finding it don't think any of them are loyal.

Richardo is a cut above them isn't he. Absolutely no getting away from him.

What will Jamie do now. He's such a rubbish criminal. He needs to cool calm don't get riled up attitude of Micheal to succeed

The mum did r eveal to Jamie his dad "told snippets", but said Ronnie was not grass because he picked what he said. She knows he was informant - just denied it to it to Michael; or it's some sort of semantics thing 🤣

Gloriia · 06/05/2025 08:29

'Richardo is a cut above them isn't he. Absolutely no getting away from him. What will Jamie do now. He's such a rubbish criminal. He needs to cool calm don't get riled up attitude of Micheal to succeed'

Yes Ricardo is like a proper ocg person isnt he, youd think he'd have ditched them all ages ago as they are all so useless with their infighting, surely a massive risk. Maybe thats the level of drug dealing crim you get.

The actor who plays Jamie was in Little Boy Blue and he was far more convincing in that as being a scary scrote.

FreddoSwaggins · 06/05/2025 09:42

Oh didn't see Little Boy Blue.

He is supposed to be rubbish isn't. Thinks he's better than he his by vitue of birth. An Organised Crime Nepo Baby (OCNB) if you like.

Which has made me remember Elaine saying to him she could now see why Ronnie kept him at arm's length. Ouch! That's got to hurt - him mum was one of very few who belive he's any good.

SydneyCarton · 06/05/2025 09:56

OCNB - love it!

I can't get over all these nouveau riche gangsters wearing Reiss and sipping lattes in chi-chi coffee houses while they discuss killings and drug deals - the Krays would have had a fit! It also didn't seem to be the smartest thing to pay a drugs debt by bank transfer - I assume it's all put through sham companies but we never see or hear about any sort of business set-up to provide a legitimate reason for the money.
