This City Is Ours stars Sean Bean, Julie Graham and Jack McMullen and follows the big troubles of a Liverpool crime family.

the eight-part series follows Michael, a drug-trafficker who reconsiders his life after falling in love.

Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) plays Michael's boss, gang leader Ronnie Phelan, who begins eyeing retirement just as a rival organisation prepares to attack.

Michael (James Nelson-Joyce) dreams of following his boss and leaving his life of crime behind, but faces opposition from Ronnie's ruthless son Jamie (Jack McMullen), who doesn't want to share his father's criminal empire.

This City is Ours is the story of Michael, a man who for all of his adult life has been involved in organised crime... but for the first time in his life, Michael is in love. For the first time in his life, he sees beyond the day-to-day, he sees a future: something to win and something to lose — Diana. "The eight-part series tells the story of Michael and Diana's love affair, set against the disintegration of Michael’s crime gang.

For years, together with his friend Ronnie, Michael has successfully been bringing cocaine into the City and beyond, directly from Columbia; but when a shipment goes missing, then he knows their Kingdom is under attack.

"The drama explores what happens when Ronnie’s son Jamie decides he wants to inherit their kingdom and that there is no longer a place for Michael at the table.

Both Michael and Jamie have bold ideas to modernise the gang and they will battle for control of it.

But Michael’s biggest battle will be to save the woman he loves and the child he has always wanted.

"This is a story about family and love destroyed and corrupted by ambition, pride and greed. It’s a story about power: what we will do to secure and keep it."

James Nelson-Joyce (The Family Pile) will lead the cast as Michael Kavanagh, while Jack McMullen (Hijack) plays his friend and Ronnie's son, Jamie.

It's not the first time to the two actors from Merseyside have appeared alongside each other and co-starred in Time (https://www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/a-quick-guide-to-sean-beans-new-prison-drama-time)

Have you all given up on it? I still find it pretty slow - and now the music is starting to repeat itself.

limebasilandmentalhealth · 22/04/2025 08:13

I finished it at the weekend.
To be honest by the end I was quite sick of Diana, I felt her whole back story plot was dragged out far too much.

SydneyCarton · 22/04/2025 09:39

@Ilovetea33 I’ve been listening to the soundtrack on Spotify and there’s three versions of Mack the Knife 🤨

I started watching episode 5 last night but my bloody family interrupted me seven times in the first twenty minutes so I gave up. I’m guessing from Diana’s flashback scenes that she was the one who actually killed her dad/stepdad and her mum took the blame, hence her telling Michael that she really does get what it’s like for him.

limebasilandmentalhealth · 22/04/2025 12:08

@SydneyCartonyeah don’t worry if you missed some of it, they do about a million flashbacks of what happened with her Dad until the end of the series! 🤣

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/04/2025 14:58

No I’m still watching weekly but was working sun night so only just seen

Jamie is falling to pieces - gutted to have lost his drugs

car chase was good tho he’s a bit thick as surely would have looked at his mirror
it was daylight when they followed him and dark car chase

hiw did he not spot them ?

will Cheryl grass to the copper Barney - who is very familiar and been in lots of stuff I’ve done threads on tv wise

not sure how this will end

guessing Jamie will die

i think it’s obvious Dinah killed her dad and mum took the blame

I’m still watching at TV pace, and enjoying it. I like the atmosphere and the styling. Kudos to the cinematographers.

There are absolutely some parts that could have been sped up though. And repetitive. Yes we’ve all got it that Diana was the one that killed her dad!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/04/2025 19:51

I do love their accent

obv not Irish Pmsl

She's preg !!

Nice to see a phone plugged in at night. As usually they never show charging at night so why don't they have a flat battery

Jamie wanted blades so was going to box dirty

Glad Micheal beat him fair and square

Ronnie was an informer - surely not

Micheal has to kill Jamie doesn't he

Can't believe Diana told Cheryl about davy

I'm not sure she is safe at hers

Barney knows he died in Spain and didn't return

Loving this - don't want it to end

I’m really enjoying this too Blondes. I don’t find it slow at all, the tension is palpable.

Ditto @CollaterlieSistersSister

irs rare I’m tempted to binge but I do went to know how this ends

even tho Micheal is a killer he seems kind and caring and I went the best for him

no one seemed shocked Jamie went for a blade and that he was cheating

how can he hold his head up now

Joining you as I've just caught up (I was being very dedicated to no spoiler by being weeks behind!!).and definitely won't binge as I'm in the wrong country for iPlayer.

You'll also be pleased to know @Blondeshavemorefun I'm not here to complain about it and say how much I'm hating it, I'd just ike to discuss it!! (including all the "Irish" accents if you want 🙂)

Wonder why Diana said to Michael that she wasn't pregnant? Was she planning on heading off at that point? Can't help feeling she's in trouble - not sure if it'll be from the Amigos top dog or from the foolish big I am Jamie.

Hopefully Jamie, because his plan will probably go wrong due to him thinking he's a criminal mastermind - rather than a dangerous overgrown 5 year old in a playground. He didnt learn much from his dad did he!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/04/2025 10:44

Def Irish 😂😂 or some kind of lilting accent

I think as she said he wasn’t going to walk away /lose the right she didn’t tell him

unless. She wasn’t preg and retested and then was

but think more that she knew she was abs wants to protect her child

I’m glad you’re enjoying it, I’ve binged the lot, so won’t comment until you discuss it after it ends. Don’t want our lovely Blondes having my guts for garters! X

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/04/2025 12:21

Indeed @Middlemarch123- that would be a shame

you prob binged it in a few days and now had to wait 7/8w for e8 😂

I am still watching and enjoying. I think it is done really well. It is taking its time and not killing people constantly which similar drug gang dramas do. I think when she told him she wasn't pregnant the test had been negative, when she tested again at hotel it was positive.

Interesting Ronnie was an informant and seems to have stitched Michael up and got him imprisoned so that will embolden Michael even more to get rid of Jaimie
