THE ONE WHO GOT AWAY. 9pm - Sat March 1st bbc 4 - TV PACE NO SPOILERS

New drama on BBC Four

Double bill of the first two episodes on 1 March (St. David’s Day no less!) so everyone gets a chance to dive in.

6 episodes. On weekly and a great cast imo

The One That Got Away

When a local nurse is found dead in a Welsh seaside town, detective duo DI Ffion Lloyd (Elen Rhys) and DS Rick Sheldon (Richard Harrington) are thrown together to investigate.

The catch?

This murder looks eerily similar to a series of killings from over a decade ago.

And just to make things even messier, Ffion and Rick have history, which adds even more tension to the case. Expect plenty of edge-of-your seat moments!

The BBC synopsis reads: "Written by Catherine Tregenna (Law & Order UK, Lewis, DCI Banks), and directed by Sion Ifan (Y Goleudy), this psychologically driven thriller delves into the complex relationship between Rick and Ffion as they confront not only a killer but also the unresolved issues of their past.

The murder stirs up old wounds in the small community, casting doubt on a historic conviction and raising the chilling possibility of a copycat killer.

The series offers a forensic examination of a town, a killer, and a love affair – both past and present.'

The audience will be gripped not only by the high-stakes crime story but also by the complex love story at the heart of the show.

Can detectives Ffion Lloyd and Rick Sheldon stop the killer before they strike again?”

The series, filmed and set in Pembroke Dock, boasts a stellar cast including lead actors Elen Rhys, known for her role as detective Miranda Blake in BBC's The Mallorca Files and Richard Harrington, who won a BAFTA Cymru Award for his role as DCI Tom Matthias in Hinterland and has also made appearances in The Crown and Poldark.

They will be joined by:
• Rhian Blythe (Keeping Faith, Hidden).
• Sule Rimi (Day of the Jackal).
• Ian Puleston-Davies (Coronation Street).
• Ioan Hefin (Gangs of London, Apostle).
• Aled Pugh (The Light in the Hall, Hunky Dory).
• Mali Ann Rees (Lost Boys and Fairies, Mammoth).
• Will Thomas (Tree on a Hill, Steeltown Murders).
• Sharon Morgan (The Sin-Eater, Y Sŵn).
• and Hannah Daniel (Creisis, Tree on a Hill).

I'm never quite sure why the beeb puts drama on their 4 , it often feels like they think it's a second best one . But will give it a try .

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/02/2025 13:31

They often have quite good 9pm sat night dramas

I was all excited about a new Welsh series to watch, but now discover that this is Cleddau, and I watched it last year.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/03/2025 17:34

Oh no. Sorry you have seen @duc748

it’s new to me and many others

theresnoonequitelikegrandma · 02/03/2025 17:46

We're Welsh language learners so tried to watch Cleddau but just couldn't get the subtitles to work and after the first two episodes we realised we had very little idea of what was actually going on! Now watching the English version and it makes much more sense! 🤣

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/03/2025 17:47

@theresnoonequitelikegrandma well done for trying to learn Welsh

it sounds so complex

OP posts:
Ariadneefron · 02/03/2025 18:20

It's good. I'm not sure I really needed them to have a past romance if I'm being honest. Writers like to give some kind of complicated home life to detectives and I often feel I'm not actually that interested. The exception being Happy Valley, where it was so integral to the story. And Jackson Brody because it's funny. But that element felt a little tacked on for me, and formulaic.

Augustus40 · 02/03/2025 18:32

I am watching this on Catch Up. Quite enjoying it. Nearly at the end of episode two.

@theresnoonequitelikegrandma well done for trying to learn Welsh

it sounds so complex

It's almost impossible! But we've been trying for years and I refuse to be beaten! 🤣🤣

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/03/2025 18:54

@Augustus40 I need to see e2 but do comment about it as was shown last night so far game and I will a avoid thread
