New drama on BBC Four

Double bill of the first two episodes on 1 March (St. David’s Day no less!) so everyone gets a chance to dive in.

6 episodes. On weekly and a great cast imo

The One That Got Away

When a local nurse is found dead in a Welsh seaside town, detective duo DI Ffion Lloyd (Elen Rhys) and DS Rick Sheldon (Richard Harrington) are thrown together to investigate.

The catch?

This murder looks eerily similar to a series of killings from over a decade ago.

And just to make things even messier, Ffion and Rick have history, which adds even more tension to the case. Expect plenty of edge-of-your seat moments!

The BBC synopsis reads: "Written by Catherine Tregenna (Law & Order UK, Lewis, DCI Banks), and directed by Sion Ifan (Y Goleudy), this psychologically driven thriller delves into the complex relationship between Rick and Ffion as they confront not only a killer but also the unresolved issues of their past.

The murder stirs up old wounds in the small community, casting doubt on a historic conviction and raising the chilling possibility of a copycat killer.

The series offers a forensic examination of a town, a killer, and a love affair – both past and present.'

The audience will be gripped not only by the high-stakes crime story but also by the complex love story at the heart of the show.

Can detectives Ffion Lloyd and Rick Sheldon stop the killer before they strike again?”

The series, filmed and set in Pembroke Dock, boasts a stellar cast including lead actors Elen Rhys, known for her role as detective Miranda Blake in BBC's The Mallorca Files and Richard Harrington, who won a BAFTA Cymru Award for his role as DCI Tom Matthias in Hinterland and has also made appearances in The Crown and Poldark.

They will be joined by:
• Rhian Blythe (Keeping Faith, Hidden).
• Sule Rimi (Day of the Jackal).
• Ian Puleston-Davies (Coronation Street).
• Ioan Hefin (Gangs of London, Apostle).
• Aled Pugh (The Light in the Hall, Hunky Dory).
• Mali Ann Rees (Lost Boys and Fairies, Mammoth).
• Will Thomas (Tree on a Hill, Steeltown Murders).
• Sharon Morgan (The Sin-Eater, Y Sŵn).
• and Hannah Daniel (Creisis, Tree on a Hill).

I liked that the Dad was able to help towards the end.
The room with the cots was so creepy.
Glad yer man got dumped.
Overall, the acting was excellent and well worth a watch.

I said to DH when the carer appeared, ‘oh, look out. He was a main character in ‘Hidden’ a couple of years ago’ (he was a policeman, ironically). So he was always going to play some part in the story.

Finally seen 6 🙀🙀🙀

I watched it back when it was Cleddau, and can't remember that much about it. Except that it got a bit, well, 'hectic' in the finale.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/03/2025 18:25

It was a little confusing with double bluffs and Paul taking the blame when his wife killed the nurses

all coz her babies died ?

I think that’s why

It certainly did become a little hectic in the finale @duc748
One had to suspend disbelief -
How did Ffion survive that final blow !!!

I thought it was good.
I didn’t guess who the murderer was. Blush

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/03/2025 09:14

I still a little confused. So Anne the cancer wife killed the nurses as her babies died

Well done my Husband for calling it, he also said the carer was dodgy as soon as he appeared!!! Should have gone into the police not dentistry lol

TessTickle0 · 23/03/2025 14:20

Overall thought it was a bit bland, quite good acting but didn't draw me in

That’s what I got from it anyway.

THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY - it's not that gripping. I figured out that Rick was a bent copper in episode 3! Not even sure if I can be bothered to keep watching - it just might be my "one that got away"!! 🤣🤣

That Rick is a very weak individual. His wife deserves better.

This absolutely passed me by, but have recently discovered it and binge watched. My viewing habits have changed upside down these days.

Did roll my eyes at a lot of the unlikely plot holes or discrepancies with procedure and common sense, but enjoyed it because figuring things out in advance made me feel clever 😄

I thought the acting was good and they did a sterling job of keeping me watching even though I didn't find the characters likeable.
