New drama on BBC Four

Double bill of the first two episodes on 1 March (St. David’s Day no less!) so everyone gets a chance to dive in.

6 episodes. On weekly and a great cast imo

The One That Got Away

When a local nurse is found dead in a Welsh seaside town, detective duo DI Ffion Lloyd (Elen Rhys) and DS Rick Sheldon (Richard Harrington) are thrown together to investigate.

The catch?

This murder looks eerily similar to a series of killings from over a decade ago.

And just to make things even messier, Ffion and Rick have history, which adds even more tension to the case. Expect plenty of edge-of-your seat moments!

The BBC synopsis reads: "Written by Catherine Tregenna (Law & Order UK, Lewis, DCI Banks), and directed by Sion Ifan (Y Goleudy), this psychologically driven thriller delves into the complex relationship between Rick and Ffion as they confront not only a killer but also the unresolved issues of their past.

The murder stirs up old wounds in the small community, casting doubt on a historic conviction and raising the chilling possibility of a copycat killer.

The series offers a forensic examination of a town, a killer, and a love affair – both past and present.'

The audience will be gripped not only by the high-stakes crime story but also by the complex love story at the heart of the show.

Can detectives Ffion Lloyd and Rick Sheldon stop the killer before they strike again?”

The series, filmed and set in Pembroke Dock, boasts a stellar cast including lead actors Elen Rhys, known for her role as detective Miranda Blake in BBC's The Mallorca Files and Richard Harrington, who won a BAFTA Cymru Award for his role as DCI Tom Matthias in Hinterland and has also made appearances in The Crown and Poldark.

They will be joined by:
• Rhian Blythe (Keeping Faith, Hidden).
• Sule Rimi (Day of the Jackal).
• Ian Puleston-Davies (Coronation Street).
• Ioan Hefin (Gangs of London, Apostle).
• Aled Pugh (The Light in the Hall, Hunky Dory).
• Mali Ann Rees (Lost Boys and Fairies, Mammoth).
• Will Thomas (Tree on a Hill, Steeltown Murders).
• Sharon Morgan (The Sin-Eater, Y Sŵn).
• and Hannah Daniel (Creisis, Tree on a Hill).

I won't give any spoilers but this seems to improve each episode.

It’s fine. It’s fair game. Been shown on tv. Others may want to discuss 1&2

DH & I are watching but keep getting distracted by which actors have been in Saving Grace, Hinterland, that one about the lottery winners in the factory, etc. If I were an out of work actor, I'd be investing in an immersive Welsh language course, asap - you'd never be short of work...

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/03/2025 19:52

I’ve got so much on the planner so will try and watch e3 tonight

TessTickle0 · 10/03/2025 09:37

Just started watching this.
Up to episode 3.
Think it's OK so far,not totally invested with it but will keep watching

ShowAndGo · 11/03/2025 12:53

We're now up to episode 4 and even DH, the absolute King of 'it's just a tv show, stop picking holes in the plot' keeps saying, 'This doesn't make any sense.'

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/03/2025 14:00

Yes I haven’t watched 4 yet - it’s on my list 😂

I'm enjoying this. Finding it a bit unbelievable and too many coincidences with the families of the two leads but this is par for the course with series like this one! Pretty bad policing and security within prison too. Still entertaining. I hope the ending is satisfying.

Suprised no one has said anything about Rick and ffions kiss and now prob affair
she only left as Helen told her she was preg. So seems she still has feeling for Rick

I don’t think it’s Owen but he is traumatised by what his foster dad did 🥲

he’s a mean bastard and thi seems he didn’t kill nurse 2 or could have done nurse 3 / he still killed nurse 1 and an abuser

Rick sounds like he set up Paul Harvey as widow Alex wasn’t sure it was him he saw

so who is doing the killings

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 15/03/2025 17:03
