Welcome to the EastEnders spoilers thread, where we post and talk about any EE spoilers we've read about, including those in early release episodes on iPlayer.

Link below to watch episodes on BBC iPlayer - these are usually dropped at 6am on broadcast days - and you can read brief synopses of upcoming episodes:

Barbara Windsor was a Tory too!
Ian is phoning it in now , he really seems to have given up. I was surprised that he came back after the poisoning episode tbh

Oh wow, not my beloved babs 😭

storminabuttercup · 20/02/2025 22:21

I've just watched

Literally sobbed for stace there, still no idea how they are going to write her out for mat leave, agree with others 5 weeks postpartum she did fucking brilliant

Sonia just annoyed me they could have killed her off instead as she's leaving anyway

I read James bye was getting into production so hopefully he's got something lined up

DH is rolling his eyes at me listing everyone I'd rather have died

the80sweregreat · 20/02/2025 22:21

Yep, Barbara Windsor often spoke about her conservative upbringing and so on. She adored Boris Johnson too.

Just caught up and after a pretty poor week tonight was good but that’s only because of Lacey and James

They really rely on Lacey in the lives. This time bringing her back from mat leave and one of the previous ones when she admitted to killing Archie she could barely speak with laryngitis or something like that

But Stacey will not cope with the fact that she basically killed him by insisting on having a marriage counselling session rather than escaping a collapsed building

Just glad no ghosts from Walford past showed up like that nonsense last night

Really hope it was his choice to leave because apparently it wasn’t Natalie Cassidy’s and from what I read she is not happy at all

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 20/02/2025 22:48

Haven’t fully watched eastenders since 2017 when Abby fell off the roof. Watched bits and pieces as my sister watched it up until a year ago. I watched last nights and tonight’s, basically just for the anniversary, eastenders was a massive part of my upbringing, never missed an episode until I stopped watching. Absolutely love Lacey turner, she’s only 5 days older than me, when she came in, the first day I knew she’d be fantastic and she’s been there 21 years now, a phenomenal actress.

Fantasea · 20/02/2025 22:52

Jack was so lukewarm towards Denise that I honestly thought she might change her mind, leave and go round to see Ravi!

Southeastdweller · 20/02/2025 22:53

Yep, she'll be plagued by guilt and maybe stay with one of her brothers. I wonder if Lacey's maternity leave played a part in the decision to kill off Martin.

But but but they could have gone off travelling or something. They didn't need to kill him

TurquoiseDreamCatcher · 20/02/2025 22:55

The vic is not kind to the Branning family. Sonia had lost the fathers to both get children in there this evening. And Max lost two of his children from them falling off the roof.

I hoped she would. Never trust the British public with a vote.

Snapespeare · 20/02/2025 23:14

Just caught up on catch up and now watching Taskmaster to decompress a bit.

Agree Stacey and Martin carried it, enjoyed the bickering. Although he wouldn't be under the beam if Stacey hadn't refused to leave until their relationship was sorted, she had the opportunity to hear - and understand that she was loved like that, instead of no resolution or 'it's always been you Stace' whumfp! Instant death.

I'm sure she would rather he wasn't brown bread, but the knowledge she was loved - does that make it better for her grief or worse?

Thought Sonia was a gonner - ambivalent that she wasn't. Don't really care about D/Jack/Ravi.

He probably wasn't expecting the "live" vote to go his way, so didn't know how to act... 😆

DopeyS · 20/02/2025 23:27

I'd be annoyed if I was a real London paramedic/fireman. EastEnders makes them look like right chumps. They turn up after ages. Put up a bit of flimsy tape and hang out in the marquee. No search and rescue, multiple people just wandering into the collapsed building from outside to go and search for people. Sharon could have been paralysed by Grant as she was pinned and he hoiked her over his shoulder. It was chaos 😄

GuiltyPleasure · 20/02/2025 23:28

Obviously the Martin dying plot was mooted from when they did the everyone thinks it's his 40th birthday plot last year. I suspect that Lacey's real life pregnancy and necessary absence sealed it as a story line. If they were together again then there was no plausible storyline that would have explained her absence. They would hardly have left the whole load of kids in the care of Jean.

I'd much rather the death had been that they'd killed off Sonia in childbirth. They could have saved the baby and she could have had a fatal haemorrhage or something similar, just surviving long enough to name the baby.

I think that Denise and Jack was the right outcome. They're far better suited as a couple.
Ravi would be too diluted as a character if he was with her. Ravi and Priya have a lot of chemistry and potential as a power couple. They could have a lot of fun with them being likeable but bad. Plus they both need a break as they're saddled with Nugget as their child

EconomyClassRockstar · 20/02/2025 23:52

I thought the whole thing was great. I actually love Stacey so was happy she got to shine in this, although her ratio of live episodes to dead fiancés is getting worrying!

Bravo to the whole Eastenders crew on this one, even if they did apparently put the beam back on Martins legs after he died 😂

I still can’t believe the British public voted for freaking Jack though!

Bluesandwhites · 21/02/2025 00:06

Anyonecanfallinlove · 20/02/2025 20:40

I didn't like Sonia's voice over. Why is she the new Dot?
This whole mess is her fault

Yes, and if I could mention a minor point after such a sad episode, if I was Bianca, I certainly would not be on speaking terms with Sonia, as she didn't believe B's warning about the baby's father, won't mention his stupid name as he is insignificant.
After Bianca's absolutely dreadful ordeal, if it was RL she would be so traumatised, and in EE she was just delivering a baby as if it was a regular thing.

EconomyClassRockstar · 21/02/2025 00:30

Bianca loves Sonia. I've kind of enjoyed the whole "my sisterrrr" thing between them since Bianca escaped.

Patsy really seemed to enjoy the live show. The drinking the brandy scene was very funny.

EconomyClassRockstar · 21/02/2025 00:55

Also, HIGH FIVE to all of us that called Martin dying in an emotional, post crush, event. Not that Neighbours and Casualty already did that but, still!

tobee · 21/02/2025 01:24

Haven't watched Eastenders since 2020 (the covid episodes did my nut in and I needed more of distraction) but caught up with what you guys thought of the live ep.

But, also, June Brown was a Tory too!!

Maybe Wendy and Babs and June were of the era where it "wasn't nice" to be anything other than Tory <grabbing at straws> 😁

storminabuttercup · 21/02/2025 07:32

I think I'm now at peace with Martin going, read an interview and the actor seems ok with it

The show will look different for a while now, they've centred so much around the vic it'll be weird it's not there

NowNumber5 · 21/02/2025 07:39

Where did you read that @storminabuttercup ?
I think I’d better read it as I’m still stropping around the house, periodically wailing “Oh Martiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin…” 😆

There's a few articles quoting him saying exactly the same thing
The one I saw was ok magazine

milesmachine · 21/02/2025 08:06

James Bye presented ESquared YouTube game show over covid and I thought he seemed to really enjoy that. His wife also has a 'mum' instagram about life with 4 boys and it sort of seems like they've tried to be one of those influencer families.

So I think he's probably got a few things going on afterwards. As others have said, he'll no doubt do the circuit of masterchef/im a celebrity etc. I think he's already done strictly?

I loved the live episode and think Lacey Turner is phenomenal. She's also recently started a podcast and comes across as lovely so I'm sure that'll keep her going through Mat leave! I look forward to her having James on it!
