The White Lotus - series three - starts February 17th

The Emmy-award winning HBO original series, which offers an inside look at the powerful and wealthy as they navigate complex personal dynamics and face potentially dangerous experiences while on vacation, returns for its third season this month.

"Seeking peace can be a trip," reads the tagline for this season, which was created, written and directed by former "Survivor" contestant Mike White.
This time around, viewers will be whisked away to an "exclusive" resort in Thailand, where an eclectic group of guests and resort employees will play, and likely misbehave, over the span of a week. "The White Lotus" Season 3 guests include a wealthy businessman and his family, three longtime friends who haven't seen each other in a while on a girls' trip and "rugged man with a chip on his shoulder" and his girlfriend, among others.

Anyone else looking forward to this? Starts on Monday and will be shown on Now and Sky. No watching on demand as all episodes will be dropped weekly.

On reflection I did like the scenes with Laurie and her two friends, also when she basically told Valentin to do one after she found out he shagged Jacklyn. I thought her passive aggression and hurt was nicely written and acted. Hopefully it will all blow up next week or in the final episode.

Wow. That was one of the best episodes I’ve seen in any of the three seasons. Huge leaps forward. Variation in music. Variation in storytelling. Saxon wandering around like Dementors have been at him. The gun business was endlessly fascinating.

One thing. Why does Laurie handle her cutlery like a wild animal that’s never seen such implements before? How has she got through years of socialising with other lawyers? That was a little weird.

Otherwise - fantastic!

Oh I’m loving today’s episode- it’s taken 6 of them to get here 😂

I’m now thinking Saxon will commit the massacre. Knowing that he had sexual relations with his brother will tip him over the edge. He seems traumatised.

What's Greg up to.

To me they don’t look nearly sweaty enough. I keep scrutinising the women’s clothes in particular and assessing whether they’re things I could have worn in those temperatures. Piper’s pale yellow cotton dress would have been impossible for me - even though it’s actually very much the sort of thing I chose to wear in hot climates when I was much younger.

I’m laughing at myself over Rick. Hawaiian shirt and strained demeanour WL hotel Rick - meh. White linen suit and dangerous poise Bangkok Rick … 😍

I agree, they're certainly not sweating like I would be in Thailand. Maybe they filmed it in colder weather off-season (does Thailand HAVE cold weather?) and all had to pretend to be lying langourously by the pool sweltering when in fact they were freezing!
Agree about Rick in his white linen. There's something a bit Graham-Greene-protagonist about him.

I think the gun plot line is really odd. What was the point of having it go missing? Gaitok wasn't discovered snooping in the Ratliffs' villa. The other Ratliffs didn't discover that the dad had been in possession of it. Gaitok's boss didn't discover that Gaitok had managed to lose it.

Also, what is Chloe playing at? She's said she thinks Gary is capable of killing and that, if he knew she'd shagged around, he'd dump her 'or worse'. When she came back from the party she denied shagging the brothers and, when he told her to invite them over, she seemed suspicious. But when she talked to Saxon she said Gary knew and was OK with it. Is she hoping Gary will take it out on Saxon and not her?

They’ve probably all had Botox in their armpits to keep the sweat down – if you read about filming, Mike White and most Aircon in order to create as sweaty atmosphere as possible. It sounded pretty grim.

They filmed over 7 months and some of it was in June 2024 as friends were on the island and it was overcast and raining (but hot). A lot of the scenes look overcast and quite windy.

Weirdly, I sort of fancy Rick

He does seem more attractive as the series goes on.

Partly I think (in my case) because his partner seems to genuinely love him despite his grumpiness calling him her "soul mate" and wouldn't cheat on him. This suggests he is capable of building deep connections with women unlike some of the more unsympathetic characters like Greg/Gary and Saxon.

Walton Goggins is in great shape, it’s really unusual to have a physique like his at 53.

Agree about the pointless "missing" gun plot line. But Gaitok is sharpening his shooting skills- is he the one who is going to go berserk? He seems quite a repressed character who has been under a lot of stress and he's clearly crazy about Mook. Will all that suppressed emotion come to the surface?? As for Chloe, Gary/Greg said he wanted her help with something. Is he going to let her off her infidelity in return for luring the brothers to the house? (Framing one of them for killing Belinda, maybe??)

The hair dye puts me off.

I think Saxon is going to kill himself now, and/or his brother.
