Any one else watched it?

Binged it over a couple of days. I'm not sure what to think.

@Dueanamechange2025 No. it's all self explanatory. Report back after watching! I think it needs its own thread!

Also a big shoutout to Kaitlyn Dever's Aussie accent. She's an outstanding accent.

I didn't even clock that she wasn't Australian. Really good job.

Do you need to have watched Grey’s anatomy?

Definitely not, I hadn’t. I suppose there must be a different level of shock in store if you had though and knew the storylines she rips off, but it’s still a fantastic watch and her Grey’s stint is only part of it.

Scamanda is now up on Disney Plus, here I go!

sillybillydh · 21/02/2025 13:29

Dammit, it looks like Anatomy of Lies is only on Now TV which I don't have.

Thanks for the reminder. That's tonight's viewing sorted. The podcast is great.

Do you have Sky? It's on documentaries.

I've just started Scamanda.

You might get a free trial if you haven't used one before. You could watch that then binge all three seasons of The White Lotus.

I worked with a cancer faker and I am still angry with myself now, for believing her lies. She didn't just lie to the whole office about having cancer, she lied to her husband and children too. She got a free family 'last holiday to make memories' to Disneyland, paid for by us after fundraising, and shortly after that, was exposed as never having had cancer.

Eldermilleniallyogii · 21/02/2025 14:34

I will be looking for a Scamanda thread and Anatomy of Lies. I didn't know about either of these. I haven't even seen ACV as I don't have Netflix atm!

GlitchStitch · 21/02/2025 15:05

Just watched the first Scamanda episode, I hadn't even heard of this story until a few days ago and I'm in shock at the amounts of money involved. Also, American churches are fascinating.

Me neither and aren't they just?!

GlitchStitch · 21/02/2025 15:20

There is an outstanding documentary on Now/ Sky called Saviour Complex, kind of linked to the American churches and their culture. A young missionary went to Uganda and was basically practicing medicine on children with no knowledge or qualifications. So not quite a scam, but absolutely fascinating.

I've just been on a documentary binge lately, there is so much crazy stuff out there!

I'm listening to Believe in Magic podcast that someone recommended on this thread. Another shocking story 😬🫨

Birdseyetrifle · 22/02/2025 06:49

Just started Scamanda 😱

Birdseyetrifle · 22/02/2025 07:00

I don’t mean scamanda I watched that last night. I’ve just started the perfect wife one. Bonkers!!

Wow! That's crazy

Aside from the fact it's abhorrent, it's fairly easy to lie about health issues. And it took a lot of resources and years to expose her

Watching Scamanda made me think there could be others who have never been caught out

fingerbobz · 22/02/2025 09:07

Perfect Wife/ Sherri Papini

Its in Disney...worth a watch if you enjoyed Scamanda

Birdseyetrifle · 22/02/2025 11:24

BlondeFool · 22/02/2025 08:40

What's that?

On Disney+ she faked her kidnapping, utterly bonkers

ArtTheClown · 22/02/2025 11:30

Don't be angry with yourself. It wouldn't occur to a normal, decent person that someone they know is lying to them about cancer.

GlitchStitch · 22/02/2025 13:24

Just finished Scamanda. Wow. She was a whole different level, I don't understand how her husband wasn't prosecuted too as there is no way he didn't know. How they treated his ex wife was appalling, and all those friends who gave them so much.

Also watched the Perfect Wife one recently, that was crazy too. The dedication and intelligence they put into their lies, they clearly have so much potential if they could channel it the right way.

By all accounts Belle Gibson was an excellent cook and her app was beautiful, she could have been a success even without the cancer story.
