I've just finished watching this three parter. Is anyone else watching it?
It's so sad seeing the effect the management and media had on all of them. I already hated Louis Walsh but this cements it for me!

Louis Walsh should have left them where they were - Keating would be working in a phone shop now instead of living near the beach in Sydney.

If Ronan had made himself out to be a saint then yes you would have a point with this comment. But he admitted his shortcomings, agreed he handled things badly and showed he had reflected and learned from when he was being a dick,

How do you explain Louis Walsh coming across as a machavellian tool on the BBC2 boyband documentary? or a vindictive little man on Nicky Byrnes podcast? Ronan had nothing to do with those....

I put my children to bed and was looking for something to watch and stumbled across this programme, I’m glad I watched the first two episodes in one ho - fascinating! I don’t think Ronan was awful I think he was just really ambitious and being given opportunities the others weren’t. The only thing I feel Ronan did wrong was to deceive them about Boyzones future when they ‘took a break’ That was really unfair. Mikey seems quite scarred which is really sad. They were all SO young when they formed the group and still so young when they split.

Louis reaction to the front page was weird! Not the reaction you would expect. He seemed so happy the ‘news’ made the front page it left me wondering if it was him that tipped off the press.

Cheated on his wife. That's all you need to know.

He's another one like Peter Andre- made a whole career out of zero talent.

I've always thought Yvonne dealt with the whole situation with an incredible amount of dignity, while Ronan and Storm come across appallingly on social media, so grabby and shallow.

Can't wait to watch this - I'm saving it to watch with my fellow Boyzoner sister!

I agree that Louis Walsh doesn't come across well, however it also seems very clear to me that without Louis's drive, determination & ruthlessness, none of them would have become famous in any way.

Louis Walsh is a very unpleasant person. And not a great manager by all accounts. He didn't even bother to manage Girls Aloud at all beyond phoning Nadine and telling them all to lose weight and then turning up to the Love Machine video shoot and saying 'well done for losing weight'.

He is a total arsehole of a human. Him laughing at the newspaper made me feel sick. Really hope he gets his karma one day.

Also I didn't know Ronan was a dick too. So I learned something.

Glutton for punishment tonight as I've just sat through the Demi Moore movie and now watching the first of Boyzone 3 parter. Sounds interesting so will see how it goes.

He did but I think he recognised that and showed some remorse, as much as he was out for himself I do think many people would have done the same, he had an opportunity and he ran with it. It also sounds like he worked pretty hard and wasn't entitled with it.

I felt awful because before the doc l, if you'd have asked me, I'd have said Stephen Gately died of drugs or suicide, I don't remember it being a health issue at all which says a lot about the media speculation at the time.

@hjfoau I remember that a reporter put a headline out saying something like "30 odd year old males to now go to bed at night and die" basically heavily implying there must have been more to it, like drugs. Then when it was revealed that that was exactly what has happened they gave a half arsed excuse for an apology, under duress from public outrage IIRC.

It was Jan Moir for the Daily Mail obviously . And Christ it's so much worse than I remembered.

Oh thank you for that! I don't know much about NOW TV but I'll check it out. Someone already gave me a link to watch it on dailymotion but last time I checked I could only get the first episode.

I was about 11 when Boyzone came out and loved them, was totally obsessed with Stephen through my early teens. It's so sad to hear the lads talk about how terrified he was of being outed, and generally just sad that he felt he couldn't be himself. Hard to believe now that it was such a big deal.

Louis Walsh is a disgusting human being. I've seen him around Dublin on multiple occasions on 'dates' with very young men, creepy fucker.

Jan Moir’s was a disgusting, homophobic piece of trash. It should never have been published. I already hated the paper but it’s one of several reasons I can’t take that ‘journalist’ seriously. The gleeful cruelty of it must have delighted Louis though.
The whole trend of ‘outing’ celebs was horrible. They framed it as a public service. That the celebrities owed it to their community. They even did a big splash about the singer of Ocean Colour Scene as if that was big dramatic news. Utter crappy nonsense.
Stephen was far more talented than Ronan, but he seemed to be the most ‘hungry’.
