yah. It’s back. For 8w

We're transported back to the tropical island of Saint Marie, and this time with a new Detective Inspector in place - but will DI Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet) remain in the job for long?

Following the recently cracked case of ‘who shot the Santas?’, along with the revelation that his estranged mother has passed away, Mervin is ready to get back home and leave the island for good.

But when a case close to the hearts of those at the station presents itself, is he tempted to extend his stay?

As Mervin continues to ruffle feathers, the police team pull together to solve some of the island’s most confounding cases yet.

And making their mark across the series is a host of fantastic guest stars including: Tobi Bakare (Kingsman), reprising his role of Sergeant JP Hooper, Michelle Greenidge (Kaos), Joy Richardson (Dreamland), Stephen Odubola (Boiling Point), Anthony J. Abraham (The Acolyte), Simon Lennon (Our Girl), Bhavna Limbachia (Brassic), Adam James (The Day of The Jackal), David Avery (Gangs of London), Sofia Oxenham (A Very Royal Scandal), Patricia Allison (Sex Education), Imogen King (Love Rat), David Mumeni (Bridgerton), Madeline Appiah (In The Long Run), Siobhan Redmond (Two Doors Down), Chantelle Alle (Hijack), Rita Bernard-Shaw (The Power), Bobby Gordon (Three Little Birds), Tony Marshall (Casualty), Charlotte Spencer (The Gold), Tala Gouveia (McDonald & Dodds), Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge (Holby City), Gerard Horan (Detectorists), Judith Jacob (The Five), Lily Nichol (Renegade Nell), Lyndsey Marshal (Inside Man) and more.

Elsewhere, Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) must deal with momentous news from the Chief Commissioner in Jamaica that rocks the police department to its very core.

As an unexpected foe attempts to enforce the unfathomable, Catherine (Elizabeth Bourgine), in her role as Mayor, acts as the last line of defence in a battle to save the team as we know it.

In an unexpected twist, Naomi (Shantol Jackson) finds herself at an emotional crossroads when an old flame from St Barnabas makes a surprising appearance on the island, while Darlene (Ginny Holder) becomes a mentor when a new officer joins the ranks, but is left questioning whether she’s the right person for the job.

And with the opportunity to learn more about his mother’s life, Mervin begins to discover things may not be all that they seem in Saint Marie. As everything he thought he knew unravels, will his life ever be the same again?

Death in Paradise was the UK’s most watched returning drama in 2024 across all broadcasters and streamers, with last year's series watched by over 8 million viewers. BBC Studios, who distribute the series, have now licensed Death in Paradise to over 230 territories across the globe.

Following the successful launch of spin-off series Beyond Paradise in 2023, the Death in Paradise franchise has built on its international success with new Australia-set spin-off series for the ABC - Return to Paradise, which launched last year on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.

Filmed on the French Caribbean Island of Guadeloupe, Death in Paradise continues to delight audiences with the perfect blend of exciting escapism, puzzling mysteries, and juicy plot twists set against an idyllic sun-drenched backdro

I also find Catherine irritating. She's such a nosey parker offering unwanted advice to everyone

Yes she didn't used to be as bad

They were all so sanctimonious about the sat dish

That beach shack is awful and unmodern

I find the way they speak to the inspector quite disrespectful towards a senior officer. I get they aren’t meant to like him but I don’t know just a bit off to me.

I agree, totally unrealistic IRL and imagine someone trying the ‘say please’ nonsense with Morse or Vera on TV.

CollaterlieSistersSister · 25/02/2025 10:57

Just caught up with the last episode.

Weirdly, I’m fine with all the murdery stuff - but bringing rape into it gave it a very different feel. And no ‘all suspects together denouement’.

Seems odd to say about a show based on death, but it’s losing its lightheartedness.

Oh and I can’t take to the new rookie, very annoying at the moment.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/02/2025 11:20

I've not seen the latest episode yet, but in general you're right.
Elaborate 'impossible' murders have long been the staple of 'light' detective fiction from Sherlock Holmes through Agatha Christie onwards. They're puzzles not reality.
Sexual violence is a completely different matter.

CollaterlieSistersSister · 25/02/2025 11:40

Spot on @ErrolTheDragon. No objection at all to someone hamming it up in their death scene, where it calls for it. You thrash about and stagger around as much as you like dear. And then we can all try to work out how you were killed when the room was locked from the inside etc.

But rape should never be portrayed as anything other than the harrowing experience it is. Seems misguided of DiP to use it as a plot device.

RaraRachael · 25/02/2025 11:51

Rather than the rape scenario they could have just made it a one night stand or brief fling.

I suppose it needed something awful enough for the sister to want to kill him, and for the victim to want revenge. Even so, they could have done something different.

And the son was a pretty superfluous character anyhow, so no need for that.

I’m possibly just a bit grumpy that VAWG has invaded an otherwise bit of escapism.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/02/2025 13:29

Just watching now as has guests fri night . Haven’t read repeat

I’m guessing something to do with ice cubes and blonde lady

prob totally wrong

be back in an hour

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 26/02/2025 14:30

Semi right. I thought the ice cubes may have had an antidote for the poison

not blonde lady.

was the sister

agree rape shouldn’t have been the theme

so sister killed him then killed the imposter ?

E5 tonight

Mervin joins fans at a local football game but the star player turns up dead at half time ans only access to crime was via the pitch so the killer was in plain sight

Naomi's outfits are getting skimpier each week!

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/02/2025 21:54

Hmmmm. Shot before the game. Painkillers and bandages

tho why didn’t anyone else notice the bandages on the floor

Naomi may get together with Melvin

who seems to get very excited at the end of each episode and when they get to how it is done 😂

OP posts:
Snowmanscarf · 28/02/2025 22:14

I wrongly guessed it was a case of mistaken identity and the killer, for what ever reason, had planned to kill the goalie sub. Got that wrong!

Quite like the sub plot of the mother.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/02/2025 22:25

It’s a hot country and she has a great figure. I say, good for her.

No - she applied for a permit to scatter at the beach by her favourite restaurant. A week before she died she told the waitress she would be bringing the ashes to the beach.

so why was she on the boat

i suspect the neighbour

Oh I agree, I think she's gorgeous but I did find her chest a bit distracting in the pink top 😂

PrincessScarlett · 28/02/2025 22:46

Agree about possibility of Naomi and Melvin getting together. A lot of vibes between the two of them tonight. I guess we're going to get a 'will they won't they' like we did with Neville and Florence and Camille and, was it, Humphrey or the one before?

zanahoria · 28/02/2025 23:35

Merv is old enough to be Naomi's dad

He would be better off with Darlene

I do love Selwin creeping up on Melvin and Melvin calling him a ninja! 😂

Floralnomad · 01/03/2025 10:55

I’m going to predict that Selwyns replacement ( don’t get me started on the irregularities of replacing people who didn’t want to leave) will be either the murder victim or the murderer in next weeks episode , possibly if he’s the victim with Selwyn as the main suspect . WRT Naomi’s clothing they’ve basically given her the same wardrobe as they gave Camille and Florence but not taken into account that she has a bigger chest .

Bruisername · 01/03/2025 11:00

I thought they were making the position of commissioner redundant so confused by replacement

hopefully he is the victim as he seems annoying

as for Catherine, ds asks me to skip forward when she comes on as she seems to have become a parody of herself

i I think Mervin is too old for Naomi. I don’t think we need another romance there
