yah. It’s back. For 8w

We're transported back to the tropical island of Saint Marie, and this time with a new Detective Inspector in place - but will DI Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet) remain in the job for long?

Following the recently cracked case of ‘who shot the Santas?’, along with the revelation that his estranged mother has passed away, Mervin is ready to get back home and leave the island for good.

But when a case close to the hearts of those at the station presents itself, is he tempted to extend his stay?

As Mervin continues to ruffle feathers, the police team pull together to solve some of the island’s most confounding cases yet.

And making their mark across the series is a host of fantastic guest stars including: Tobi Bakare (Kingsman), reprising his role of Sergeant JP Hooper, Michelle Greenidge (Kaos), Joy Richardson (Dreamland), Stephen Odubola (Boiling Point), Anthony J. Abraham (The Acolyte), Simon Lennon (Our Girl), Bhavna Limbachia (Brassic), Adam James (The Day of The Jackal), David Avery (Gangs of London), Sofia Oxenham (A Very Royal Scandal), Patricia Allison (Sex Education), Imogen King (Love Rat), David Mumeni (Bridgerton), Madeline Appiah (In The Long Run), Siobhan Redmond (Two Doors Down), Chantelle Alle (Hijack), Rita Bernard-Shaw (The Power), Bobby Gordon (Three Little Birds), Tony Marshall (Casualty), Charlotte Spencer (The Gold), Tala Gouveia (McDonald & Dodds), Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge (Holby City), Gerard Horan (Detectorists), Judith Jacob (The Five), Lily Nichol (Renegade Nell), Lyndsey Marshal (Inside Man) and more.

Elsewhere, Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) must deal with momentous news from the Chief Commissioner in Jamaica that rocks the police department to its very core.

As an unexpected foe attempts to enforce the unfathomable, Catherine (Elizabeth Bourgine), in her role as Mayor, acts as the last line of defence in a battle to save the team as we know it.

In an unexpected twist, Naomi (Shantol Jackson) finds herself at an emotional crossroads when an old flame from St Barnabas makes a surprising appearance on the island, while Darlene (Ginny Holder) becomes a mentor when a new officer joins the ranks, but is left questioning whether she’s the right person for the job.

And with the opportunity to learn more about his mother’s life, Mervin begins to discover things may not be all that they seem in Saint Marie. As everything he thought he knew unravels, will his life ever be the same again?

Death in Paradise was the UK’s most watched returning drama in 2024 across all broadcasters and streamers, with last year's series watched by over 8 million viewers. BBC Studios, who distribute the series, have now licensed Death in Paradise to over 230 territories across the globe.

Following the successful launch of spin-off series Beyond Paradise in 2023, the Death in Paradise franchise has built on its international success with new Australia-set spin-off series for the ABC - Return to Paradise, which launched last year on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.

Filmed on the French Caribbean Island of Guadeloupe, Death in Paradise continues to delight audiences with the perfect blend of exciting escapism, puzzling mysteries, and juicy plot twists set against an idyllic sun-drenched backdro

I think Catherine had real tears in her eyes on that final scene, and why didn’t the commissioner tell the others he was leaving?

Won’t be the same without him, although I do remember in tgevfyrstcseries his role was less important. Then he seem to interfere a bit to much with the second detective, but then settled down a bit with the third or fourth.

Also, where was Selwyn the duck in the Beyond Paradise episode?

They seem to have had some location changes in BP

  • new cafe
  • no close ups of the boat and Selwyn the duck

(perhaps Commissioner Selwyn will move to Devon and rent the boat 😉)

What a cliffhanger for Mervin. He has a brother!

I must admit that I didn't think I'd like Don Gilet as the new detective (maybe because he was a killer in EastEnders! 😂) but I must admit that DG is a fantastic actor and the last 2 episodes in particular he has shown such emotion and depth. Which is a bit unusual for DIP 😂

ExtraDisorganised · 29/03/2025 07:14

That was a great end to the series. The murder of the day was meh, but I really wasn’t watching for that. The scenes between Selwyn and Mervin were fabulous, I’m so pleased Selwyn hasn’t been shoved out after all and hope we still see him from time to time. Glad Mervin has been given a reason to stay. I think the new officer has settled in well as a character and Naomi and Darlene make up a great team. Not too much Catherine. I loved Naomi’s jumpsuit. Happy days.

LovelyJubly12 · 29/03/2025 07:23

I’m watching the UK version now, new series. Kris doesn’t look well.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/03/2025 11:25

I think Don Gilet is marvellous. Too good for DiP, to be frank, but that's fine by me! I've enjoyed this series a lot. Nine months to wait for the Christmas special! Pah.

Still, Beyond Paradise is very silly but I enjoy it. I see that Ben Miller's in something next Friday. Might give that a go too. He was a good Inspector.

I missed that

not sure how

but was very tired at end

I know was it S left a note on the grave so guess it was him

I had better watch the end again.

@Blondeshavemorefun 🤣🤣 Mervin found out who S was, a Solomon someone I think, but was told it was a former student of his mum's so didn't want to follow it up any further. At the very end Selwyn gave Mervin the phone number for Solomon and said to call him because he's your brother.

Topseyt123 · 29/03/2025 17:29

I'm excited for the next series now to see how Mervin deals with the realisation that he has a brother. He never explored the possibility that Dorna might have had other children.

I glad Selwyn doesn't seem to have been written out totally, although it does look as though he is taking a step back and going to see Andrina in London. He might not feature as prominently in the next series, if he appears at all, but the options are open for a way back in some form.

Why do we have to wait so long!?😲

Bruisername · 29/03/2025 17:41

I thought that series was an improvement on the last few

watched beyond paradise - it’s really not good

Don Gilet has been excellent. The last two detectives have been comic actors and the quirky comedy can get a bit wearing after a while.

Snowmanscarf · 29/03/2025 18:31

Don Giket did emotion very well. Superb actor.

Thank you. I reround the end so saw it

tho how did the commissioner know he was his brother ?

OP posts:
PrincessScarlett · 29/03/2025 21:09

The Commissioner knows everything @Blondeshavemorefun.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/03/2025 21:48

nods

and his name - how did he find that out

ans unless I missed it which I prob did

but when the C said to him I’ve spoken to (name) Mervin didn’t say who was that

OP posts:
PrincessScarlett · 29/03/2025 21:51

I'm guessing that Mervin's brother is going to be his polar opposite and annoy the hell out of him.

Bruisername · 29/03/2025 21:52

Mervin called his mums old neighbour in Antigua and she had given him the name and he assumed he was a former pupil. He had the name and I assume that is how the commissioner found it and then I assume he got the number and called and found out it’s his brother

Yes, that was an emotional episode. Thought Don Gilet did some superb acting then, you could really see the pent up anger when he wanted to hit Sterling, and the emotions as he thought about his mum.

Have to say, as an inspector, I’ve taken to Mervin Wilson quicker than other DIs.

Late to the thread, but just finished that episode. Was so well done, I was dubious about Don Gilet as the new inspector, all I could see was the evil one from Eastenders! But he was magnificent
