yah. It’s back. For 8w

We're transported back to the tropical island of Saint Marie, and this time with a new Detective Inspector in place - but will DI Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet) remain in the job for long?

Following the recently cracked case of ‘who shot the Santas?’, along with the revelation that his estranged mother has passed away, Mervin is ready to get back home and leave the island for good.

But when a case close to the hearts of those at the station presents itself, is he tempted to extend his stay?

As Mervin continues to ruffle feathers, the police team pull together to solve some of the island’s most confounding cases yet.

And making their mark across the series is a host of fantastic guest stars including: Tobi Bakare (Kingsman), reprising his role of Sergeant JP Hooper, Michelle Greenidge (Kaos), Joy Richardson (Dreamland), Stephen Odubola (Boiling Point), Anthony J. Abraham (The Acolyte), Simon Lennon (Our Girl), Bhavna Limbachia (Brassic), Adam James (The Day of The Jackal), David Avery (Gangs of London), Sofia Oxenham (A Very Royal Scandal), Patricia Allison (Sex Education), Imogen King (Love Rat), David Mumeni (Bridgerton), Madeline Appiah (In The Long Run), Siobhan Redmond (Two Doors Down), Chantelle Alle (Hijack), Rita Bernard-Shaw (The Power), Bobby Gordon (Three Little Birds), Tony Marshall (Casualty), Charlotte Spencer (The Gold), Tala Gouveia (McDonald & Dodds), Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge (Holby City), Gerard Horan (Detectorists), Judith Jacob (The Five), Lily Nichol (Renegade Nell), Lyndsey Marshal (Inside Man) and more.

Elsewhere, Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) must deal with momentous news from the Chief Commissioner in Jamaica that rocks the police department to its very core.

As an unexpected foe attempts to enforce the unfathomable, Catherine (Elizabeth Bourgine), in her role as Mayor, acts as the last line of defence in a battle to save the team as we know it.

In an unexpected twist, Naomi (Shantol Jackson) finds herself at an emotional crossroads when an old flame from St Barnabas makes a surprising appearance on the island, while Darlene (Ginny Holder) becomes a mentor when a new officer joins the ranks, but is left questioning whether she’s the right person for the job.

And with the opportunity to learn more about his mother’s life, Mervin begins to discover things may not be all that they seem in Saint Marie. As everything he thought he knew unravels, will his life ever be the same again?

Death in Paradise was the UK’s most watched returning drama in 2024 across all broadcasters and streamers, with last year's series watched by over 8 million viewers. BBC Studios, who distribute the series, have now licensed Death in Paradise to over 230 territories across the globe.

Following the successful launch of spin-off series Beyond Paradise in 2023, the Death in Paradise franchise has built on its international success with new Australia-set spin-off series for the ABC - Return to Paradise, which launched last year on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.

Filmed on the French Caribbean Island of Guadeloupe, Death in Paradise continues to delight audiences with the perfect blend of exciting escapism, puzzling mysteries, and juicy plot twists set against an idyllic sun-drenched backdro

Has anyone seen Saint-Pierre?

Florence appears as the deputy on a French island, this time the island is just off the Newfoundland coast. The "visiting inspector" is from Newfoundland after getting into hot water and being sent to do a stint on Saint-Pierre. I've only seen a couple of episodes but the vibe is similar to DiP, including a lot of focus on the local French influenced culture.

Its not quite a replication in the way of Return to Paradise - more a cross between the Paradise franchise and a cosy procedural.

Not heard of this but just looked it up. The premise is similar- foreign cop sent to solve crimes.

is it worth watching?

I only saw a couple of episodes but I will give it a go when its more widely available. As with the DiP franchise the setting is one of the characters and its a bit different.

Its firmly in the mould of single episodes but with a running background story. A murder or similar in each episode but resolved within the episode. I find this format works well for a tired brain which just wants a bit of a puzzle and some interesting scenery on a Friday night 😀

I think the actress who plays Florence is dreadful so won’t be tuning in!

Yeah I’m with you there! Think I’ll swerve that one.

Canadian Broadcasting in origin - I saw it in a hotel on some cable channel which also says how exciting my trip was 😀
A lot of the CBC police series seem to end up on UK Drama, C5 or similar so it may appear in the UK later this year (or sooner via VPN if you use it).

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/03/2025 12:46

@C8H10N4O2 hopefully it will appear on sky

I think the actress who plays Florence is dreadful so won’t be tuning in!

She starred in possibly the worst programme it has ever been my misfortune to watch - a French mini series called Time is a Killer. It was described as a tense psychological thriller but was utter, utter drviel.

Florence was meant to be a singer in a band who sang the same song over and over again 😅

Snowmanscarf · 14/03/2025 21:02

Just realised who the man in the bar reminds me of - Bushtucker Bob from ‘ I’m a celebrity’ (who was later disgraced).

Go Selwyn!

PrincessScarlett · 14/03/2025 21:59

Oh wow! That was a superb episode. Very emotional and Selwyn was hilarious. Must admit I've had a little weep.

Snowmanscarf · 14/03/2025 22:08

Yes, that was an emotional episode. Thought Don Gilet did some superb acting then, you could really see the pent up anger when he wanted to hit Sterling, and the emotions as he thought about his mum.

Have to say, as an inspector, I’ve taken to Mervin Wilson quicker than other DIs.

PrincessScarlett · 14/03/2025 22:15

I just love how they've done it time and time again. We love the inspector, he leaves, we are dubious of new inspector and then we love new inspector. And so the cycle begins again.

Agree that Don Gilet was on top form tonight. He's won me over.

Terry from The Detectorists. Such a lovely character in that, and now this! Grin

Great episode. Sorry to see the series finish next week, but I see we're moving straight onto Beyond Paradise the following week.

kazzaD66 · 14/03/2025 22:39

Not sure it's on next week, due to Comic Relief.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/03/2025 22:47

You're right. Two weeks to wait! Pah.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 14/03/2025 22:59

What was the point of the Selwyn story line?

Edited

Terry should have brought Sheila with him - her lemonade would have gone down a treat

The new DI is my second favourite after Richard Poole / Ben Miller

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 14/03/2025 22:59

What was the point of the Selwyn story line?

I wondered if Don Warrington couldn't do the full series for some reason and this nonsensical seeming story was the filler.

I was also confused that the replacement was "Mr" Fox rather than a police rank. Were we supposed to believe that a civilian was now heading the multi island police force, making decisions about investigations and just reporting up to the head of the whole Carribbean?

InMySpareTime · 15/03/2025 15:01

There is a Beyond Paradise/Not Going Out crossover episode for Comic Relief.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 15/03/2025 15:10

Mr Fox good point. He just reminded me of a Del Boy wide boy character set on a lovely island instead of Peckham.

C8H10N4O2 · 15/03/2025 15:15

Mr Fox was basically a walking cliche - it was always going to be a pantomime twirling moustache effect character replacing Selwyn but a civilian seemed very odd.

I can just imagine all their faces while they're drinking the lemonade.😃
