I know that my first thread isn't full yet. I just wanted to create the second thread before i forgot.

The Madness song 'Embarrassment' is about mixed race couples. One of the band had a sister who went out with a black boy and her family were ashamed of her.

My father told me, quite out of the blue, that if I ever brought a black/coloured boy home, he would throw me out! I was 16 and had no intention of having a boyfriend who wasn’t white, simply because I hadn’t met any, so it hadn’t cropped up. Luckily for me, I never did meet any boys who were a threat to my father! However, I have, over the years, been mad about Sidney Poitier and a couple of others, including the lovely one in Call the Midwife, so I don’t know what my dad would have made of that!

Was it on on Sunday? I can't see it on catch up! Series 14 and only 6 episodes?

It was definitely on last sunday. I caught up on the bbc iplayer.

Came across a link to this on my Facebook Feed
Found it interesting, seeing as many of us would like some kind of prequel, with a younger Sister Monica Joan or somebody else, to cover certain Decades.
Hadn't thought of Trixie though but thought I would share it.
Teased might lead to it being.

I wouldn't watch a spin-off with Trixie in it. Her voice raises my hackles

Needmorelego · 28/02/2025 17:28

Does Trixie have a particularly interesting back story other than being quite posh and having a well off Godmother who swans around the south of France?

TickingAlongNicely · 28/02/2025 17:31

Her father had shell shock (PTSD).
I'm watching the old ones at the moment... she wasn't as shallow then

Needmorelego · 28/02/2025 17:33

Of all the characters to choose from a series devoted to Trixie doesn't excite me.
I want the youth of Sister Monica Joan. She's the best !

TickingAlongNicely · 28/02/2025 17:38

Pre NHS Nuns would be amazing.

Doubleraspberry · 28/02/2025 17:41

Nuns in the Blitz is what I want.

Needmorelego · 28/02/2025 17:42

I'd quite like a WW2 set prequel. They could re-use the sets (although didn't the nuns move house at one point?).
There could be younger versions of some of the current characters - like Violet.
Fred was off fighting in the war but his first wife was killed in an air raid - so she could be in it with his daughter's but we (the viewers) will always know that her character is going to die.
Valerie was a local girl and would have been a child then - so she could pop up.

I think they should call it that !
"Nuns in the Blitz" 😁

Doubleraspberry · 28/02/2025 17:44

I think also 1947 and the introduction of the NHS would be a really interesting period to cover.

TickingAlongNicely · 28/02/2025 17:47

I'd even put up with a child Trixie popping up watching the nuns and getting inspired to be a nurse.

Uricon2 · 28/02/2025 17:54

I don't mind Trixie as a character most of the time but not loving the prospect of a prequel centering her. Nuns in the Blitz/early Sister MJ for me (or any combo thereof)

Yes!! That’s exactly what I want. So much drama. Having to evacuate due to an air raid, giving birth in bomb shelters, not sure who the dad is because everyone was at it like knives,

SnowyMice · 28/02/2025 19:07

I think they should just carry on moving through history. At some point they will have to stop though as I don’t know of any 2025 nuns in nursing. Wonder when it did actually stop.
If you like nuns I recommend watching the conclave film.

Years ago now, I think it might have been the first Christmas that EastEnders aired, the BBC gave us viewers Civvy Street.
Pretty good really and it showed us the lives of a younger Dot, Ethel and Lou just after World War II. Reg Cox, found deceased in the very first episode, was also in it, alive and well and very into the Wartime Blackmarket.
I think a WWII CTM prequel would be very watchable.

TennisWithDeborah · 28/02/2025 20:47

I enjoyed the Only Fools and Horses prequel, Rock and Chips set in the late 1950s I think. Nicholas Lyndhurst played Rodney’s bio father Freddie the Frog.

Another vote for Nuns in the Blitz! Also Sister MJ’s youth.

Last Sunday’s ep was great. The deaths of the young couple were a shock, I thought there’d be a saccharine ending with all addictions defeated. That’s what would have happened in the prior season. I’m so pleased that CtM is back on track.

Great news about Fenella Woolgar.

Haven’t missed Nancy at all. Sister Catherine is a much more interesting character.

Rewatching Hitman's bodyguard now, Millicent as ultra stern Hauge Convention /UNHCR High Judge

Yes, I really enjoyed Rock and Chips as well. I recall Kellie Bright played Joan Trotter.

Re a back story, I don't particularly think it should be Trixie .

I am firmly in the younger Sister Monica Joan or WWII Sister Monica Joan's story. I believe, though my memory is not great, that we have a little knowledge of her background but it was a good lot of Series ago.

TennisWithDeborah · 01/03/2025 12:17

I think that the actress who played the “housebound” mother in last week’s episode would make a good middle-aged Sister Evangeline if they do a WW2 series.

FagsMagsandBags · 01/03/2025 23:30

There isn't enough of Trixie's life before nursing to make for any sort of interesting prequel. I'd go back to the twenties or thirties to give them a couple of decades before getting back to the start of CTM. We could have Sister Monica Joans, Sister Julienne and other nuns we've known in past series. We could also have some of the nuns going from novitiates to their solumn vows. There would be far more nuns than secular nurses and I'd like that as well. We could go through the middle of the roaring twenties, through the depression, through world war two and then onto the founding of the NHS. It would be bloody marvellous!

Will there be a bride tonight? Who will catch the bouquet?
