Binged watch them all today. I really enjoyed it. Not as good as motherland but still good. I don’t get why Anne hasn’t got two younger kiddes like she had in motherland. I like the fact she is more vocal now though.

Not airing until 5th Feb but who else is as excited as me for this?!

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vnWbDVho03w

I was excited but.. I watched it and was very disappointed.

ssd · 05/02/2025 22:43

Joanna lumley was the perfect casting and she was so funny

Teenagerantruns · 05/02/2025 22:44

I thought it was entertaining, binge watched it today on my day off. Actually enjoyed it better than motherland.

LizzieSiddal · 05/02/2025 22:47

I was about disappointed tbh, I’m hoping episode 2 will be better. I did really enjoy AIBU though, that was excellent.

Too try-hard for me and I don’t get the timeline - the kids are supposed to be 15 but in Motherland they were what 8 or 9? How much time is supposed to have gone by?

Is Della the woman from Pottery Throwdown? If so I don’t like her on that and I didn’t like her character in this.

The kids were 11 in the last season. All the characters were going to open evenings at the local secondary schools.

I have watched them all and it gets better...I think the other episodes are much better than the first

Would never have watched were it not for this thread @Wallasey123 . Been cackling away at how awful Amanda is. And the football to the head - almost choked myself. I couldn’t watch the last bit of the episode when she got caught out - she is so flaky I had to stop watching as I couldn’t bear her. The cringe factor is like Alan Partridge 🫣🫣🫣🫣😳😳 and Joanna Lumley is so good 😬😬😬😬

sparrowflewdown · 05/02/2025 14:55

Yes it seems like in the gap between series she has forgotten how to play Anne - hopefully she will warm-up. Amanda and her mum are still good.

No, Anne has been away from Amanda for a bit by the looks of it, from watching it it feels like Amanda's kids were at private school for a while and then have had to move to Anne's kids state school. Anne's self-esteem is quite low in some areas, she defers to Amanda in Motherland and at the start of episode one of Amandaland it seemed to me like she's got a bit of self-esteem back after being away from her. She reverts back to her old self as soon as she's got Amanda around again.

Loving the Mumsnet references!

I found it funny and the acting superb.

Yes! I was trying to think what it reminded me of, the cringe factor. It's Alan Partridge or David Brent style, isn't it?

Thankyouforthrdayz · 05/02/2025 23:52

I should be asleep, massive busy day tomorrow, instead I'm tucking into DS's tomorrow's packed lunch and hunkering down to Ep3. It's really growing on me. Shin fame😂. Fantastic cast, brilliant script.

ChiaraRimini · 05/02/2025 23:54

I love how Anne's character is slowly revealed in Motherland. At the beginning she seems to a Amanda's shadow and a bit of a drip but later on we discover she had a big corporate job before kids (which goes over Amanda's head), she stands up to Amanda and eventually we discover she actually feels sorry for Amanda and is humouring her ridiculous behaviour. It's very clever in showing how someone can be totally under-estimated just because they appear to be a "mumsy type" and this thread is continued in the climax of Amandaland when Amanda actually listens to Anne for once!

Floralnomad · 06/02/2025 00:07

We’ve watched the first 2 and I think on the whole the verdict would be disappointing, I will watch the rest though to see if it improves .

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 06/02/2025 00:12

Let's face it Motherland is a very hard act to follow.

maudelovesharold · 06/02/2025 00:41

I think Motherland was far superior though and I got a bit fed up with seeing Amanda in most of the scenes.

I suppose as it’s called ‘Amandaland’, the focus is going to be on her.

edit to un-bold!

sweatervest · 24/01/2025 18:35

also peter serafinowicz (probably spelt wrong) is in it and i think his wife is a writer on it and also lucy punch is doing the sofas (okay so she's done the one show and this morning) doing promo for it and i cannot WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love it already and have only seen the trailer.

It's his sister. Formerly Helen Linehan, Graham Linehan's ex wife.

the80sweregreat · 06/02/2025 04:59

I'll carry on watching for Samuel Anderson ( the neighbour / referee ) who is just gorgeous!
I miss Liz , Julia and Kevin though ( especially Kevin !)

Devon24 · 06/02/2025 06:35

Can not wait! I thought Amanda was brilliant so I’ll be watching!!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 06/02/2025 06:39

just catching up, Joanna Lumley is great in this

the80sweregreat · 06/02/2025 07:08

Joanna lumley is very good as the highly strung high maintenance rich mum !
Although I've a feeling she'll end up living permanently in 'So Ha ' despite it not being up to her usual standards !

Dabralor · 05/02/2025 22:14

Mal needs to meet Liz from Motherland - they'd be amazing together 😍

Omg you're so right! They would be perfect together!

I'm not buying it if he ends up with Amanda.

paranoidnamechanger · 06/02/2025 08:17

Watched it all now and thought it was gloriously entertaining with no dull bits. I don’t miss Liz and the others.

Hopefully JJ and Della get better developed in the next series (if there is one) because in this they feel pointless.

Fastingandhungry · 06/02/2025 08:26

Really liking it so far, she must be feeling the pressure knowing how popular the Motherland was and almost having to carry that herself, but Ann and her mum are a great addition.

I imagine the cast are nervously seeking out reviews, I know I would be 😂

Just twigged that Amanda's daughter was Rosie in There She Goes - I knew she looked familiar.

Thanks for this twilightcafe. I could not remember what I had seen her in.

Yes - next door or across the road for Amanda in the guise of 'helping with the grandchildren' 🤣
