Little Mumsnet shoutout in episode 2 😆

Wintercoldbrrrr

I mean, I know that! (I live in London Grin) But everyone went on and on about living in Acton and I never heard Amanda claim she lived in Chiswick Confused

Ive never heard Amanda go on about living in Acton. The others were on the Acton forum when they were writing the review.
The actual school Southfields is in Chiswick but on border of Acton.
Julia for example could live in posh part of Acton and then Amanda lives in Chiswick and the kids could go to same primary school. Parts of Chiswick are under Ealing Council as are parts of Acton.
If Amanda did live in Acton she would be the type to say it was Chiswick.

You say you come from London but obviously not that part of London as you would realise this.

twilightcafe · 05/02/2025 21:34

Just twigged that Amanda's daughter was Rosie in There She Goes - I knew she looked familiar.

Watched first two and loved them. Good comedy and unforced. Jlumley calling her carer her PA

It was funny the way Joanna Lumley delivered it but personal assistants ARE a type of carer usually employed directly by the person needing care. https://carers.org/paid-help-at-home/employing-a-personal-assistant

Help & Info - Employing a Personal Assistant | Carers Trust

The person you care for may want to employ a support worker to help them live independently. These are called personal assistants.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/02/2025 21:38

I think you might be right, she is obviously the type to claim it

But I don't remember her saying it in the show or Julia would have corrected her constantly

Yes I know but her character was using it in a pretentious way

But Julia wouldn't need to correct her Amanda probably did live in Chiswick. Amanda very likely wouldn't have bought a house in Acton as it would be beneath her.
Where as Julia and Meg are much more chilled with things like that and Kev would not have been able to afford Chiswick.

I've watched three episodes and enjoyed them, easy watching

I don't live in London so not bothered by any geographical inconsistencies

Catsinaflat · 05/02/2025 22:03

@WinterColdBrrrr I imagine they play for a Hounslow team because Chiswick is in the borough of Hounslow and as she lived in Chiswick (or Acton/Chiswick border) she probably wanted to keep the connection. Harlesden isn't that far - 20 mins in car.

BlondeFool · 05/02/2025 22:08

Della is the weakest character

ChristmasPudd1990 · 05/02/2025 22:08

What happened to all of Ann's children?

Scenicgirl · 05/02/2025 22:12

I've binge-watched all episodes this evening, it's easy to watch and quite amusing in places. Joanna Lumley is great as Amanda's Mother. I think Motherland was far superior though and I got a bit fed up with seeing Amanda in most of the scenes.

OldTinHat · 05/02/2025 22:13

Just watched the whole lot this evening.

How brilliant and I even felt a bit teary at the end. Loved it!

Dabralor · 05/02/2025 22:14

Mal needs to meet Liz from Motherland - they'd be amazing together 😍

Her neighbour as well? And the lesbian couples kid. They all live in Harlesden but play in Hounslow..

Harlesden is 20mins away in theory but on a Saturday morning and after school it takes 20mins just to drive half mile in London.

WattleTyler · 05/02/2025 22:16

We watched 2 and enjoyed them. Joanna Lumley is fab. Was never keen on drippy Anne, but I like the rest of the cast.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 05/02/2025 22:17

I wondered about all Anne's other children as well!

I'm sure she said the younger ones were annoying and she doesn't see the older ones. Maybe episode 2

mitogoshigg · 05/02/2025 22:20

It was cringey, watched the first two episodes then turned off

cramptramp · 05/02/2025 22:20

Loved it. Especially the Shin fame line.

Yes that did make me laugh.

Orangesinthebag · 05/02/2025 22:25

I was really disappointed by the first episode. Nowhere near as funny and just a bit contrived.
Has Anne also got divorced and that's why she's also there? It just seems a bit silly for Amanda to have moved and downsized for obvious reasons and then for Anne to be there too.
Would have been better without Anne but with a similar character for Amanda to dominate.
I might watch one more to see if it gets better but I didn't think it was a very strong start.

RockStarMartini · 05/02/2025 22:25

Too try-hard for me and I don’t get the timeline - the kids are supposed to be 15 but in Motherland they were what 8 or 9? How much time is supposed to have gone by?

Is Della the woman from Pottery Throwdown? If so I don’t like her on that and I didn’t like her character in this.

paranoidnamechanger · 05/02/2025 22:29

I don't buy Della and Fi as a couple. God knows why Fi is with her.

Dogsbreath7 · 05/02/2025 22:31

BlondeFool · 24/01/2025 17:50

I hated Julia. At least I find Amanda's character funny so looking forward to it

Same here. There was at least something sympathetic about her awfulness/ so far from reality.

Nothing redeemable about Julia, even though she is more my class.
