Continued discussion for series 3 of The Traitors UK.

Thread 5? Oh dear, we are ridiculous!

Though to be fair, it's not our fault- though should have The Trators on every night.

Evening.

<<takes up early seat at round table>>

Lol at "Diane was astute". Erm, no she wasn't. I can't remember why she was so popular, but astute she definitely was not.

Diane and Ross had a few chats in front of the other faithful which were funny. From memory

Diane: it's Sunday. I love a good roast dinner.
Ross: me too but that's one meal my mum just isn't good at.
Diane: well when this is finished you'll have to come round mine for one.

I’ve finally caught up! Looking forward to Wednesday! As I didn’t watch Friday night live.

"Still makes me so annoyed that Anna didn't say anything about the recruitment letter or pick up on the language"

I'm guessing that a British person might have noticed that particular nuance, but she's Irish. An American or Australian might not have spotted it either.

What nuance is that?

myplace · 13/01/2025 21:13

Yeah I’m wondering too!

witchycat2 · 13/01/2025 21:15

I think the previous poster is referring (but correct me if I'm wrong) to the bit that said the traitors want a 'strong independent woman' in Anna's recruitment letter. It's not something a man would usually say and hints the traitors are all female.

But why would an Irish person not grasp that?

witchycat2 · 13/01/2025 21:23

Not sure tbh!

@realhousewuvesoftaunton howling at your closing up of the the previous thread....masterpiece... novello award surely in the bag for you 🤣

Snowmanscarf · 13/01/2025 21:28

Didn’t Diane say something to Ross when she was in the coffin as well.

dapsnotplimsolls · 13/01/2025 21:31

Traitors Oz series 1 - the shields save you from banishment as well as murder, which makes things very interesting. Not sure which is better.

tailinthejam · 13/01/2025 21:35

TetHouse · 13/01/2025 21:22

But why would an Irish person not grasp that?

There was some talk about it on a previous thread, not sure which one (!) but I think there were spelling mistakes in it as well? Nothing to do with her being Irish per se. My American BIL wouldn't notice that either. When he comes over here we sometimes use turns of phrase he doesn't come across much. He just accepts them. It wouldn't occur to him that it was out of the ordinary or there was a 'clue' hidden in it.

It’s still not clear to me why someone would think a native English speaker not from the UK would be any less likely to notice spelling mistakes, though.

I just looked up a still of the letter, which said, pre-printed:

WE WISH TO RECRUIT YOU AS A TRAITOR BECAUSE YOU ARE

after which Minah or Linda had handwritten ‘strong independent women’, omitting the ‘a’ and using an incorrect plural. I don’t think this is a ‘clue’ or a ‘nuance’, it’s just the writing of someone flustered and/or not very literate.

whosaidtha · 13/01/2025 21:48

What happens if all the traitors are banished before the final? Are the producers managing it to make sure that doesn't happen?

I think they will keep replacing them until the penultimate episode.

They could conceivably go into the finale having to banish faithful.

AnxiousRose · 13/01/2025 22:04

Poor Anna is really getting a hard time on these threads.
Just to note Irish people can spot spelling mistakes and nuance too.

samarrange · 13/01/2025 22:16

I've never watched this show before, but having been stuck on the sofa with a cold while the rest of the family caught up with episodes 1 through 6, I am now totally hooked.

I hope that MI6 recruits Minah, because she is a brilliant undercover agent. Or maybe she can get an acting role, because I've seen on a couple of occasions that she can turn the water works on and off at will.

None of us noticed that either. It was only after Sophie Willan mentioned it on Uncloaked that it was talked about.

whosaidtha · 13/01/2025 22:33

@outofofficeagain do you mean force completely new traitors chosen by Claudia? Because if it's just the traitors recruiting will they accept? It's almost always to throw them under the bus. I wouldn't accept.

Completely correct.

Maybe it's just that nuanced. Or possibly everyone is Irish so didn't notice it.

My husband is Irish and he noticed it straight away. I didnt at first but I think if I had received that letter I would be definitely be dissecting the wording and looking for clues

samarrange · 13/01/2025 23:21

Maybe Anna did notice that, and the producers decided not to include it? We only get very short edited snippets of what the players say to the camera. 🤔

Choccyscofffy · 13/01/2025 23:37

I’ve started The Traitors S1 Oz whilst I wait for the next UK ep!

What is striking is how much more direct the Aussies are than Brits. Some of the stuff the Aussies say to people they believe are traitors would never be said in the UK show.

In one of the previous series (series 1 I think) it ended up with one traitor so there was a forced recruitment. Basically someone was chosen and told become a traitor or leave tonight.
