Anyone watching?

I think Johnathan for POTW just because James can't keep getting it. But I think James should start making those mushroom lamps. Mushrooms are very trendy.

To go is Immy I think because over the weeks Francesca has been stronger.
I'm slightly behind due to toilet breaks!

AlicePottery · 09/02/2025 20:59

Imy has done really well, I think they said she's only been doing pottery for a year which is pretty amazing.

Very close call for Francesca though!

I'm not really getting the cauliflower mushroom. I want to, but just not.

Same, same.

Francesca was second in the second challenge, so may have helped swing it for her. And her sweet corn kernels did look amazing.

Jaapssthia · 09/02/2025 23:34

I wanted Jonathan to get potter of the week, ah well. James’s creation was lovely.

Piggywaspushed · 10/02/2025 18:26

Just caught up. I didn't really like Jonathan's a huge deal but I adore him so its' all good with me.

Jonathan's and Steve's lamps were the only ones that had a sense of 'lamp' to me.

OccasionalHope · 11/02/2025 10:31

I would not choose a vegetable lamp, but James’ was the best to lol at. I absolutely hated Jonathan’s, I couldn’t tell what it was and it was so ugly.

Are mushrooms even vegetables? Surely they’re fungi which is completely different.

Turophilic · 11/02/2025 10:58

@OccasionalHope - we did have a discussion about it on our couch too. The consensus was that they’re vegetables in a culinary sense rather than a botanical one, so we’d go with it.

James made the better lamp but I’d have loved Jonathan to get it for sheer heart. Imy’s card was marked by being 6th in the throwing challenge against Francesca’s 2nd place, I think.

It’s a lovely show.

Qwerty111 · 15/02/2025 11:30

I’m very late watching this week’s but I do have a burning question. If you make a bowl with 5kg of clay does that mean the bowl will weigh 5kg when it’s finished and fired? What could you use it for? Where would be strong enough to store it?

Ellmau · 15/02/2025 15:14

No, it will be lighter after firing because the process dries out the clay and water makes the clay heavier.

AlicePottery · 16/02/2025 12:37

You loose a certain amount of clay as it's thrown on the wheel. Then even more when it's trimmed. It then looses weight as it dries ams it fired (a fairly substantial amount). Some weight is added with the glaze. For a 5kg starting point, the end result can vary wildly but will never be anywhere near 5kg.

Evening. Looking forward to their representations of Stoke.

SabrinaThwaite · 16/02/2025 19:54

Jonathan’s ideas sound great - hope they work in practice.

TinyMouseTheatre · 16/02/2025 19:55

Especially as one of them has forgotten it's actually 6 towns and missed out Fenton already.

SabrinaThwaite · 16/02/2025 19:56

Steve’s bird sketches are fab.

AlicePottery · 16/02/2025 19:58

I like the witch idea.

There's some info on Molly Leigh here Wink

Fatloss · 16/02/2025 20:00

How many baths do we think will end up attached to the plinth (I know they don’t always give the pot is sufficient time, so not necessarily their fault)?

That link doesn't work for me, I'll look her up as I'd never even heard of her!

I love Rich-but everything he says has a touch of "Remember, your course work has to be in by the 27th a the latest" to it.....

AlicePottery · 16/02/2025 20:15

I'm dying at some of these 😂
