Exciting update from MNHQ! Series writer Grace Ofori-Attah will be joining us this week to answer your questions about the Playing Nice series. Post your questions for Grace on this thread.

Playing Nice is available to stream now on ITVX

We’re teaming up with ITV to bring you a live watch-along of Playing Nice, their gripping new drama that’s bound to have everyone talking. We’ll be watching right alongside you, so hop into the thread and share your thoughts, theories, and reactions in real time and be in with the chance of winning a £200 voucher for a store of your choice.

Here’s the setup (brace yourself): Set against the stunning Cornish coastline, Playing Nice follows two couples as they uncover a heart-wrenching secret - their toddlers were accidentally switched at birth. Now, they face an impossible decision: keep the children they’ve loved and raised, or reclaim their biological child.

It’s tense, emotional, and we’re betting it’ll spark some heated debate. What would you do in their shoes? Let’s unravel it together - don’t forget the popcorn.

Trigger warning: Playing Nice doesn’t shy away from difficult topics, including family separation, identity, postpartum depression, emotional trauma, and domestic abuse, which some viewers may find distressing

Im a grandparent carer. We only discovered who my gs's dad was when he was 2 and were approached by the paternal grandfather. Those who knew what this person put us through said it was like an ott Eastenders plot. Looking back, he groomed and flattered me, presenting himself as someone he was not.

In the series, the whole situation and description of statutory agency involvement is ludicrous. But the egotistical, controlling behaviour and narcissism of Miles and use of the court process to bully and destroy is pretty triggering. The portrayal of despair and helplessness accurate.

We remortgaged our home. All we did for our gs was turned on us. Also the way Miles holds onto Theo. He even filmed me in my home through our window.

Miles you are a study of our sad, jealous, inadequate adversary.

Well I tried but I found it too ridiculous

Shame as interesting premise

Awful situation for you. And I can see how the series could be very triggering.

I didn’t understand that bit about the ‘court approved doctor’ - can they just take a dna sample from a child without parental consent? And if the doctor was approved, why were both sets of parents not informed and both given the opportunity to have both boys tested, not have one swing by one house and not the other.

And why are Pete and Maddie allowing all these visits, while they get ones that are on cctv and with a nanny in the room? Why would they just accept everything on the other couple’s terms. It’s very frustrating.

I looked it up. Just been bugging me. Someone wanting a DNA test from a child would need to ask the parents. If the request is refused they can approach the Courts for a declaration of parentage. The form asks for details of the other parents who would be approached. An amicable solution would be sought but the Court could enforce a test. And the other parents would therefore be involved from the start.
So what has happened, if it has, was illegal.
I’ve attached a relevant bit from a family lawyers site.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. What an awful situation.

James Norton was superb as always

Sleepybumble · 07/01/2025 17:38

James and Niamh are excellent actors. We are really enjoying this series.

candlelightees · 07/01/2025 17:40

I am all for suspension of reality but this is ridiculous.
No social services or support. The other Dad just rocks up to the house. Then they have a wine meet up at the posh house. No child psychs for advice, no nothing.

Absurd.

hugsandpugs · 07/01/2025 21:03

Just tuning into tonight’s episode!

hugsandpugs · 07/01/2025 21:04

Wondering what other tricks Myles has up his sleeve!

hugsandpugs · 07/01/2025 21:06

Just realised it’s not on tonight 🙈 anyone know when it’s next on?

Thomasina79 · 08/01/2025 06:18

I watched it and loved it. Wish there were more good dramas on the tv. They all seem to be about crime!

Agree
It's all usually about murder
This was brilliant
Best thing in tv for ages (Lockerbie was good though ).

PoppyLupin · 08/01/2025 11:05

I'm really enjoying this. Sometimes I start a drama and don't get in to it so give up early on, this one is good though.

CeffylCoch · 08/01/2025 14:16

I know it's supposed to be new, but I feel like I've seen it before - anyone else?

I thought the same , I can’t remember what it was but it was a short drama series and

they had a nice house with lots of windows by the sea and the dad was the guy from line of duty and the mum had dark hair? 🤔

I can't remember, it just looks very familiar 😆

It’s Sunday and Monday again! Can’t wait, it’s so hard not to give in and watch it all now but enjoying the nostalgia of tv pace 😁

I know I’ve been dying to watch the episodes too but trying to be patient 😂

Holliegee · 09/01/2025 00:08

I watched it all on iplayer.
it was good but predictable, it’s easy viewing.
There were several parts that could have been deeper and played out more - the sweets were unbelievable as was the scene where he bought chips.

thaegumathteth · 09/01/2025 00:29

@Lavendertearoom the nest

Rocksaltrita · 09/01/2025 07:40

Watched three of four here. A number of deviations from the book. All over exaggerated for dramatic effect and so much that simply wouldn’t have happened. We all know that statutory agencies don’t always cover themselves in glory but there is so much that is simply wrong! The banishment from nursery, the way Miles is always seemingly given the benefit of the doubt just because he has money, the mute Lucy, the lack of social workers and psychs, the way Pete’s dad welcomes Miles into his home… Could have been really good if it had been a bit more true to life. As it is, it’s trading on parental fears without accurately portraying what might happen in a similar situation. Disappointed.

Whatafustercluck · 09/01/2025 08:18

Incredibly far fetched in many aspects, but an entertaining watch nonetheless buoyed by some great acting from the leads.
