The six-part thriller follows a British and Australian detective who are forced to work together to solve the murder of a UK politician’s daughter in Sydney.

The new drama's lead star needs no introduction, John Bradley. Actor: Game of Thrones and as having had viewers on the edges of their seats for two series of tense thriller Liar and then Angela Black, Joanne Froggatt is back on ITV.

North Shore originally aired back in 2023 in Australia, but is now coming to UK screens at last.

According to the synopsis: "Set on and around Sydney Harbour, North Shore follows the clash of cultures when a British and an Australian detective team up to solve a complex murder mystery and uncover a conspiracy with international political consequences

Thanks for the heads up @Blondeshavemorefun
🤞Virgin in Ireland will show it concurrently with ITV and with subtitles. Sometimes they don't.

I see Mike Bullen is creator/writer, best known, probably, for creating Cold Feet. I read that he and his family actually emigrated to Australia at one stage, but returned to the UK in 2011.

I know Joanne Froggatt for Downton Abbey so this is quite a change of role and her accent and way of speaking are taking some getting used to, it just doesn't seem natural to me, not yet anyway.

John Bradley I know from 3 Body Problem, I've never seen GOT. His character is a bit formulaic, like most of them and the plot so far, given that someone's been murdered and there's a political aspect, is also pretty formulaic too and predictable. It's the old British cop transplanted into a foreign department who really don't want them there. Usually they're all won over and it's the Brit who makes the crucial breakthrough, which is a bit yawn.

Nevertheless, at this time of year, something that's an easy watch is ok by me.
Unfortunately, thread-wise, I watched it on ITVX at a time of our choosing and carried on to episode two, so I won't be going at TV pace, sorry Blondes, but I don't want to get into trouble for any spoilers. Thanks for flagging it up though, I wouldn't have found it otherwise.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/01/2025 12:23

I'll certainly keep my eye on the thread, but need to be ultra cautious.

I know you're totally dedicated to TV pace @Blondeshavemorefun but over the last year, when given the chance, our viewing habits have really changed.
We're watching Traitors and already humph about it not being on now until Wednesday 😆

lazymum99 · 04/01/2025 13:36

I’m afraid I binged the whole lot last week. Thanks for bringing it to my notice @Blondeshavemorefun
I find I watch so much TV that I lose track of what’s going on if I don’t binge it. Doesn’t say much for my brain power 😬

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/01/2025 18:17

I totally get some like to binge

I just think you miss stuff sometimes as can't wait to watch next episode

Found a bit more info

UK Trade Minister Abigail Crawford (Joanne Froggatt) is in the middle of negotiating an important deal between Britain and Australia when she hears the devastating news that her 19-year-old daughter, Sophie Chalcott (Domina's Bailey Spalding), has been found dead near Sydney Harbour.

London-based DS Max Drummond (Game of Thrones actor John Bradley) is invited to help crack the high-profile case and flies from the city to Sydney along with grieving Abigail and her husband, Simon Chalcott (The Newsreader star Dan Spielman).

However, Max receives an icy reception from DS Meg Driscoll (rising Australian star Kirsty Sturgess), who’s keen to mark her territory as this is her first time leading a murder case.

"Meg's imperfect — she's got the rookie in her! It’s clear that despite being really good and capable of solving this murder, there are details of this job she is yet to learn," says Kirsty.

Despite the initial culture and personality clash, Max and Meg eventually gain each other’s trust as they begin to piece together the clues and find themselves uncovering a complex conspiracy with international political consequences.

With the finger of suspicion pointing to Sophie’s boyfriend, Tom Macklin (Max Mayer-Rayment), his best friend, Oscar Aruzzi (Jonathan Lagudi), and Tom’s hot-shot businessman dad Lloyd Macklin (Black Snow’s Rob Carlton), questions also arise over Abigail’s relationship with her old friend, Greg Hardy (Frayed’s Matt Passmore), the leader of the Australian opposition party and likely next Prime Minister.

It was suspicious when the opposition leader (dad)'s aide said he had "solved the problem" and dad didn't say "well you don't mean murder so you"

So boyfriend or flatmate or dad/aide.

Maybe her other dad as he was in Australia at the time?

butterpuffed · 05/01/2025 13:22

I didn't think I'd like this but was wrong ! It's looking good . The policewoman in charge is annoying but I guess she and Max will get used to each other .

The suspicion seems to be falling on Erica , flatmate , as she took money out of Sophie's account , but that probably looks too obvious so early .

I like Joanne Froggatt , seen her in quite a few things but didn't watch Downton Abbey either Blondes .

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/01/2025 18:49

@burnoutbabe he wouidnt let his side kill his daughter surely ?
