So many women pregnant, is there something in the water?
Wonder if they'll have a son or a daughter?
Joel's story lingers on, that's really too bad.
And now we have to put up with his mum and his dad.

Lauren's gonna do time, I wonder how long.
I guess she deserves it as she has done wrong.
Gail's gonna leave soon, after 50 whole years.
It'll be such a shame, there will many tears!

Bethany's putting on a brave face, though she's had a tough ride.
Daniel's still boring, and Kit's always snide.
Daisy's always got a snooty little pout.
And looks like she might just knock someone out..

Toyah and Nick have been secretly smooching.
Leanne knows all about it though, as she's always mooching.
Debbie's so funny, and Eileen's so droll
And Roy, a real favourite, is one of the best characters of all

Carla and Swain are getting quite close.
Not such a secret now, and nearly everyone knows.
Mason the baddie has gone quite good.
And Betsy always acts like she's Queen of the Hood!

Not much more to review for now.
But it's happy new year to us all.
I wonder how the Corrie cast will celebrate?
I bet they will have a ball. Grin

Happy new year everyone. Have a cracking 2025! 😄

I went to university as a Mature Student. I was 24 and I avoided living in Halls!😆 As if Evelyn would opt to live with 18 year olds. I agree the entire idea is ridiculous. Maureen Lipman recently got engaged and said she wanted time off 'to enjoy life'. And this is what they came up with Hmm

No-one would do it when they are almost 80 though, seriously. No-one! 😆 24 is nothing really. Only 4-5 years older than most of them at Uni would have been.

Both of my DD went at 18 and 19 to different Universities - (they went at the same time as DD1 had a gap year,) and they had a few friends there (on the same course as them) that were 20-22 at the time.

They also knew quite a few people in their mid 20s at University. (Even a couple of people were 36-40 on their course.) But the idea of someone doing a University Degree at almost 80 is bloody ridiculous.

I know a lady who was doing a PhD in her eighties, and people do open university degrees when they retire.
But semester one in January?
Why didn't a cousin need visiting?

Shellingbynight · 09/01/2025 16:05

Yes I agree with you @SabreIsMyFave

I meant that even at only 24 no way was I living in halls, I had been working for 7 years and had a completely different mindset to 18 year olds. Evelyn is 78 and not exactly the most tolerant - she'd implode!

They will never show her at uni, they don't even show people going into t'Kabin!

There’s an extra episode, on tonight at 9.00

It's not an extra one. It's Fridays episode - moved to tonight because of football! Guess we should be thankful it's not been postponed until next week as it normally is!

Do young people watch soaps anymore?
( and when I say young I mean under 40’s )
I’ve been watching Coronation Street on & off since my late 20’s, but my adult daughters just aren’t bothered.
I hope it never ends as it really will be the end of an era.

I don’t even know many people my age that watch (45). I started watching Eastenders when I was 5(!) because in those days there was only one tv in the house and you had to just watch whatever your mother was watching. Lots of my friends used to watch when we were younger for same reason but have stopped over the years.

I think with young people these days there’s obviously so much choice and multiple screens and no one is forced to grow up watching it with their mum!

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 09/01/2025 19:42

I dip in and out myself but can never quite quit!

I was in Halls when I started uni when I was 17. We thought the people in second year were old - as in the 19 year olds!

Roryno · 09/01/2025 22:36

I know a few people that did degrees when they retired, but it was open university.

Going living in halls because two teenagers at home are noisy doesn’t make much sense! A load of 18 year olds would be much noisier. And what kind of degree starts this time of year?

JellyBeanFactory · 09/01/2025 23:48

So Rob has been in the local prison all this time - we never saw him when Roy, Damon, Harvey, Griff, Nathan, Clayton were in.

Apart from Roy, are the others all still in there?

Cottonheadedninhymuggins · 10/01/2025 06:56

What happened to Clayton in the end. What was the point on bringing him back for 2-3 episodes.

familyissues12345 · 10/01/2025 07:40

I suppose he was brought back to rock the David and Shona boat, to make her fling look more realistic

I don't understand Evelyn going into halls either, I keep waiting for Roy to offer her to move in with him, or at least the option to use his flat as a study place.

I agree with a PP who said Betsy was acting a bit better, I liked her scenes with Nina last night

JMSA · 10/01/2025 09:43

Shona needs to call time on her relationship with David, while her self-respect is still reasonably intact. She's clinging on and it's embarrassing.

AmusedMaker · 10/01/2025 12:18

I feel a bit sorry for some of the actors as they’re only as good as the lines & direction they’re given. Sean, given the right script, is a good actor, but for some reason they turned him into the pantomime dame.

I feel Dev is way past his sell by date with his ridiculous over acting that isn’t remotely funny.
It’s been going on for years and actually getting worse.

Bobby is a great addition to the Street even though he’s not a main character - he has some great lines & has good comic timing.

Fully agree.
And Mary is a joke at this point. As an actor, why wouldn't you just leave?!

JellyBeanFactory · 10/01/2025 14:37

I agree with most, but can't bear Bobby. I thought actor Rob totally outshined (outshone?) him last night in that prison scene and showed what a poor actor he is.

Deadringer · 10/01/2025 15:00

I think Bobby is hopeless, he has some funny lines but he isn't very convincing. I wonder will Rob come back into it? Anyone know how long he has left to serve in prison?

Shellingbynight · 10/01/2025 15:17

I'm not sure Sean's performances can be blamed on the scripts. All the cast get the same writers, and most of them put in decent performances. And he has been terrible for years anyway.

He is good at light-hearted stuff, which worked well when he was young. But he's now a middle aged dad and he's very limited and cannot carry serious or sad storylines. He had a homelessness storyline about 6 years ago and was not good in that.

CellophaneFlower · 10/01/2025 15:18

I don't rate Bobby as an actor and didn't as a comedian either 🙈

Freysimo · 10/01/2025 16:53

I think Sean looks like Keir Starmer from certain angles 😆

missod · 10/01/2025 17:17

Sean looking like Sir Keir has given me the giggles.Grin

Dev was dreadful last night

I still can't get over Evelyn and how easy everything was

Students can barely get halls in September.

Also isn't a law degree longer than 3 years and who would employ her

AmusedMaker · 10/01/2025 17:26

Agree that Bobby couldn’t play Macbeth, but he has a certain charm I think? ( although I’m clearly on my own with this 😂 )
Im not sure who’s the best, all round most versatile actor, maybe Abi?

I would employ her. Not to fight my case in court but just to be in my life 😂 I love her!

CellophaneFlower · 10/01/2025 18:08

All this Evelyn degree stuff has reminded me of her ads "you've got an ology? You get an ology and you're a scientist!"

Christ I thought she was old then and that must have been nigh on 40 years ago 🙈

Middlemarch123 · 10/01/2025 18:22

Totally agree about Dev, made me squirm when he overreacted in the cafe.
I did an OU degree in my forties, did it around work and raising young kids. Loved it. The thought of a brick uni and living in halls…would be much more plausible for her to do OU (modules start in Feb and Oct) and study for a few hours a day at Roy’s. Suspect ML wants more flexibility filming.

Abi’s good actress, Jenny’s ok, as is Tracey, Tim, Sally, Steve, Carla.
Rest are meh.
Knew someone who knew Sean years ago, she wasn’t exactly impressed with his attitude, to say the least.
