BBC1 9:40 pm. Who’s watching?!

OP posts:

My daughter is also really looking forward to watching. DH and I just vetted it and didn't really linger it. But I think she'll like seeing the characters grown up. We were also talking about Karen's eyebrows...

Apparently the highlight was the ‘new hyena kid’, plus Ben who has ‘always been the best one’.

crumpet · 26/12/2024 22:54

I enjoyed catching up with them all. Not up there with the best episodes but nice to see how they all turned out

LoafofSellotape · 26/12/2024 22:54

I turned it off. Certainly don't need a cancer storyline while waiting for results over Xmas. Who on earth thought that was a good idea?

Wigglytails · 26/12/2024 22:55

Sadly disappointed (especially so after Gavin & Stacey last night)

it just didn’t work & was boring throughout. Such a shame.

I agree with previous posters they should have made the grandkids or foster kids the story with Pete and Sue.

A story featuring having to babysit grandchildren would have worked better.

It’s Christmas and the plot is depressing. Good writers could have written a great story-look at Gavin and Stacey as an example.
Ben was good, but it could all have been brilliant.

EssexGurl · 26/12/2024 22:59

We loved it. Four 50-somethings and a 19 year old. Laughed our way through it. Fabulous.

OldTinHat · 26/12/2024 23:01

That was soooo disappointing, especially after the brilliance of Gavin and Stacey yesterday.

stomachamelon · 26/12/2024 23:02

I liked it. Mirrored my own family at the moment including the 'not Christmassy but got to just get on with it' cancer storyline.
Am shocked at some of the comments on here. Talk about empathy bypass.

Kitkat1523 · 26/12/2024 23:02

Loved it

Thewhisperingwindsofwinter · 26/12/2024 23:03

What on earth was that utter rubbish and a cancer story, really?

I say story but it had no beginning middle or end it just randomly went off on various odd directions with none of them concluded.

I wanted to relax enjoy and smile pure escapism. Sadly it fell way way below that 😔

PuppyMonkey · 26/12/2024 23:03

I fell asleep while it was on. Blush

Santasbigredbobblehat · 26/12/2024 23:04

It felt lacking in energy and the action mainly comprised of people walking between one room and another.

NetZeroZealot · 26/12/2024 23:04

Dull & disappointing. We didn’t make it to the end.
The only funny line was that they were doing Xmas on Nov 23rd.

It's supposed to be comedy! I don't want to have to feel empathy, it's supposed to escapism not realism (and depressing realism at that!)

TizerorFizz · 26/12/2024 23:06

So much in the news about cancer all year. DM died from it and many of us just want to bin it. Or even thinking about it at Christmas. We turned it off.

rc22 · 26/12/2024 23:06

I enjoyed it but it's original magic was the children being little and the improvisation.
I'd also hoped for an appearance from Auntie Angela. It would have been fun to find out what she'd been up to and what her relationship with Sue was like at the moment!

Bellyfullofbiscuits · 26/12/2024 23:08

The phone contract was a moment in our house 😭

AsTearsGoBy · 26/12/2024 23:08

Seriously weak. Another one who thinks it was made even weaker by comparison with last night's Gavin and Stacey. Really terrible - not funny at all.

Joystir59 · 26/12/2024 23:10

Jake and the father looked dreadfully ill and Jane is a vile and unfunny character.

Rockschooldropout · 26/12/2024 23:11

Turned it off - Dad died of cancer in April and I’ve got cancer and currently having chemo so it felt a bit gloomy …. Without that storyline though it just didn’t do it for me .. part of the appeal was the unscripted hilarity of the kids which is now lost sadly ..

Which bits did you laugh at? What was funny?

OfMiceandWomen · 26/12/2024 23:16

I thought it was ok a few funny moments.
Jake looked like a homeless person drugs.

Radishknot · 26/12/2024 23:17

I don’t really understand why it’s so popular, it’s no Gavin & Stacey.

KnickerlessParsons · 26/12/2024 23:17

Jake did look awful, didn't he. I also thought he looked like a druggie.
