Is there a thread on this yet? I'm 3 episodes in already and it's fantastic.

Spoilers

Although it wasn’t as good as the first season I still enjoyed it, the shock factor was still there at certain points.
i think the end bit was gi hun dreaming… like that’s what’s gonna happen.
can we agree that Jo Hyun Joo player 120 was the MVP of this season 🥹😂

We really enjoyed it. We watched the last half of the final episode of season 1 as a reminder before we started it.

Thaiyogamassage · 31/12/2024 10:23

I'm now halfway through another K drama series called A Killer Paradox which is brilliant. It's keeping me going until they release season 3.

Just finished watching episode 6 (of 7.) It gets better as it goes on, (it improves from episode 3 to be fair,) but I do feel it drags a little bit through some of the episodes. Still good, but I preferred season 1.

SuburbanCrofter · 31/12/2024 16:28

I thought it was good, it helped that I went into it knowing there would be a cliff hanger and a series 3. I liked seeing more of the salesman, he is a very charismatic actor. I also liked the new collection of misfits that Gi-Hun collected around him, the series is good for flawed characters that you still root for. I thought the rapper villain was good too, apparently there has been some backlash against him? He is a rapper in real life, but I thought he did 'unhinged' well.

The last episode dragged a little for me, but I will be interested to see how they wind it up in series 3.

SpicyMarge · 31/12/2024 16:35

I enjoyed it but felt the pacing was a bit off.

The first two episodes could have been covered in one ep, and then some storylines were dragged out. I’m guessing the second part of the series also has 7 episodes, so I’m wondering if one 9-ep series would have worked better?

Rhaenys · 31/12/2024 20:07

I absolutely loved the first series, but I keep seeing people online saying this series is shit and it’s putting me off - particularly as I don’t have Netflix anymore, so will have to find another way to watch it.

Hisnutsroastingonanopenfire · 31/12/2024 20:35

It's not shit, it's an enjoyable watch, but theres no shock value anymore because that all happened in the first series.

PlumpHobbit · 01/01/2025 12:21

Have finished it (got to make way for Traitors and the new Harlan Coban!)

The best bits were in the arenas, I'd rather we'd stuck to that more as those were the most intense part, especially with some new games

Lots of it just felt silly at times (the big fight for example) and OTT. Not as good as series one, also the dubbing, everyone sounded the same!

Thaiyogamassage · 01/01/2025 12:24

How do people watch with dubbing? I turned it on by accident and it sounded so weird! The language and inflections are all part of the experience for me.

Yep, agreed. I said previously that dubbing just seems to inauthentic. The voices are very hammy too

Twonewcats · 28/12/2024 19:11

I've no idea why most people watch it dubbed. It's so much more authentic watching it subtitled

Absolutely, watched the first season with dh and loved it, so dd asked me to watch it again with her, but she wanted to watch it dubbed. It was a totally different different experience with dubs, didn't feel authentic, missed lots of subtle cues without the original language and tone etc. 100% prefer it in the original audio and just the subtitles on,

BridgetRandomfuck · 01/01/2025 19:39

I had heard bad things about series 2, but have just finished it and really enjoyed it! Of course the surprise element is missing from this version as we all know what the games are about, but I thought it was really well done, and the new games made it feel more fresh. A shame it’s split into two parts, but I expect that’s a money-making decision from Netflix. Some of the twists were a bit obvious, but it carries you along for the ride.

I’ve only ever watched it with subtitles, dubbing always seems so hammy to me, I expect you miss a lot of nuance.

WellsAndThistles · 01/01/2025 19:44

I cope with the dubbing by watching without my glasses on. Can see ok but fuzzy enough to stop me focusing on their mouths

but it's way more than just the words

IcedPurple · 03/01/2025 17:44

I'm restricting myself to one episode a night, after rewatching series one in preparation! I'm two episodes in so have skipped most comments to avoid spoilers.

I had fairly low expectations as I thought it was one of those shows which really should have been left at one series and they were just exploiting its popularity. However, I'm pleasantly surprised so far. I like the new characters, especially the North Korean woman, and it's good to see the pretty policeman back. Gi Hun's decision to rejoin the games doesn't seem entirely plausible to me, but I guess it was a necessary plot device. Looking forward to the next episodes.

Sunshineclouds11 · 03/01/2025 17:45

I finished it last night and pleased to say I enjoyed it from ep 3 onwards.

Disturbia81 · 03/01/2025 19:57

Subtitles all the way, I can't watch anything dubbed it's too distracting. And I love hearing other languages.
Loved season 2!!

SabreIsMyFave · 03/01/2025 20:19

Must be just me. I can't tolerate subtitles. I can't watch anything 'not in English' with subtitles. If I see something has subtitles. Off it goes.

Watched episode 7. Not happy with ending. Better come back soon for series 3!

Overall the series was good. First one was better IMO. The episodes dragged a bit.

burnoutbabe · 03/01/2025 21:18

Just finished.

Overall I liked it though we knew our hero would last to the end so those around him were mostly safe.

Season 1 I had no idea who would win. So that made it much more tense.

Also -people seemed to just FAFF ABOUT a lot! Too much chatting on random crap when people were being killed!! Or discussing stuff during a time critical mission!

Oreyt · 03/01/2025 22:05

@BeADinosaur

Though it seems it's more Season 2 Part 2 rather than Season 3!

Agree. The ending is abrupt.!

Yes! It didn't feel like an end of season 2 cliffhanger, more like we're waiting for the other half of season 2. Which it kind of is as we're only gonna wait 6 months for it.

FuckKnowsMate · 04/01/2025 22:16

I enjoyed season 2 so much so I have started watching it again already, after rewatching all of season 1 again. I am actually starting to think that the police officer’s boss (no idea of his name) may actually have a role in this whole thing perhaps? So far he’s only had a small part and appears fond and supportive of the main police officer but I’m starting to wonder if there’s more to him and he knows more than he lets on…

IcedPurple · 05/01/2025 10:50

Is it just me showing signs of age or is there a more juvenile vibe to the games this series?

I preferred the more mature cast in season one. And while I know we have to suspend disbelief if we're to enjoy the show at all, but the idea that a pregnant woman would put herself and her unborn child through games she has an approximately 1 in 400 chance of survival is pushing dramatic licence a bit too far.

burnoutbabe · 05/01/2025 12:38

They don't know ahead of time they will all die do they? Hence it's a shock during the first game.
