Is there a thread on this yet? I'm 3 episodes in already and it's fantastic.

I was really irritated by the cliffhanger, if I'd have known it would literally stop in the middle of something I'd have waited until series 3 to watch it. I don't think it's as bad as some say personally, although for me series 1 was better, although with that wonder it if was just the right time and something that felt quite new (to me anyway).

Yes, NF have basically just split season 2 into 2 parts, for obvious business reasons.

It definitely wasn't as good as the first series. The characters weren't as compelling, the storyline was repetitive and the implausibilities became more difficult to overlook.

Still, I thought season 2 was going to be just an attempt to cash in on SG's success, so my expectations were low and I was pleasantly surprised.

They did the policeman dirty though. In series 1 he was a hero who infiltrated the whole organisation. Now he gets strung along by a dodgy boatman for years, even though the red lights were blaring loud and clear! Some detective!

I’ve watched three episodes and I’m not loving it at all so far, DH has said he won’t go any further. A friend of his was so annoyed by the ending he completely put him off. I’m unsure whether to persevere on my own…

I thought it's terrible- the whole concept makes no sense anymore and you no longer emphasise with the characters because none of their behaviour is understandable. The only reason I persevered is because I think the frontman is easy on the eye 😜

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought that about the frontman😂

I liked it. It's illogical if you think too hard about it but there are some great characters and the games are very intense.
The ending is annoying but only because it's a cliffhanger. If you're not too bothered then considering waiting until season 3 (aka part 2 of season 2) is out at the end of June 2025.

I also thought the characters' behaviour didn't make sense. It's not like the first series where it was all or nothing, so if you felt you had little to lose by returning to the 'real world' where you'd be chased by debt collectors, then maybe you'd stay in the hope of getting the big prize.

But now you can walk out with the equivalent of a few hundred thousand quid which, even if it's not enough to pay off your debts, is surely better than risking your life in another 'game'? The survival instinct is very strong, and no matter how shit your situation you're going to take the money and run.

I preferred the first two episodes set in the 'real world' and would have liked to see more of that. All the interesting twists, such as the North Korean girl being a guard, happened near the start. The rest was just an inferior version of series one.

I seem to be one of the few that loved and it thought it was absolutely incredible! I rewatched S1 right before watching S2 which definitely made it a better experience.

I loved it too! think we need to see the second half of season 2 to get the full picture.

I re-watched season 2 and I actually love it even more now. I think its solid.

What do you love about it?

I rewatched season 1 which made season 2 seem even worse in comparison.

I’ve just watched episode five and I’m loving it! Love Cho Hyun-Ju and Thanos (and I’m sad that the actor has been given a hard time in S Korea; I’m really enjoying his performance).

No idea why anyone would watch it dubbed, though - you lose so much through not hearing the actors' voices and intonation, even if you don't understand the language. It's actually inspired me to sign up for Duolingo premium and start learning Korean!

I will definitely give The 8 Show a try next.

Me too.

I rewatched Series One in preparation for Series Two. Even though I'd seen it before and knew what was going to happen, I was much more 'invested' in it than in Series Two.

That said, I still enjoyed Series Two and am looking forward to the third series. Mind you, it will really be Series Two part B!

Sometimeswinning · 20/01/2025 17:37

The first one was superior. The games far more grittier and heart stopping. But I enjoyed it. I think Gi Hun has kind of lost his way and was never going to achieve anything by what he did. I’ve no idea what the detective is trying to do. He’s probably the most useless one on there!

Gi Hun was such a fool to go back into the games. I know him doing so was essential to the plot so it made no sense. Mind you, Gi Hun was never the sharpest tool in the shed so maybe it did! The contrast between his and Song Woo's intellect was one of the best parts of Series One for me, and I missed those character dynamics in Series Two.

I hope the detective has a bigger role in part three because all he did was get taken for a boat ride this series!

This is true. I have been thinking he’s traumatised and obsessed and actually you’re not suppose to be supporting him because he threw so many others under the bus. Even the frontman looked suprised!

I watched the first one again and Gi Hun was actually very lucky to beat Song Woo. Although I’ve always had a massive soft spot for Gi Hun in season 1. Complete idiot but had a heart of gold.
