I vote for William.

I missed most of the shula-hating-Alan's-marriage storyline. The only bit I heard was the actual interview with the press creep -- in which she didn't actually say anything vile, did she??

AnnainNZ · 18/05/2008 08:17

Very pleased with Usha for having a go at Shula. Was cheering her on.

Ruth and Debbie don't really annoy me - there are FAR more irritating women in the Archers. Shula and Elizabeth being two prime examples. And surely we all love Lillian, she's fabulous.

Tommy · 18/05/2008 08:17

I've missed it this week - looking forward to hearing Usha have a go at Shula - was it like a ciouple of fish wives?

moodlumthehoodlum · 18/05/2008 08:17

It sounds like I have missed a cracking week having been away. So whatsherchops didn't get the RAF thing? And what doctor did Shula shag? Its moved on a lot in a week

AnnainNZ · 18/05/2008 08:23

Alice didn't get into RAF and moaned on about it. Brian is going to Dublin to attend putting-headstone-on-Siobhan's-grave and Jenny has been all meek and mild and said of course darling (grow a spine, woman!). Shula and doctor was aaaages ago but it has all come up again because Usha and Shula had big row over newspaper article about Usha marryinng vicar (Shula shagged Dr Richard Locke a long time ago, he was with Usha at the time. Shula tried to justify it as Daniel had been v ill - juvenile arthritis iirc - and the dr had been round a lot to offer "support)

Ooh and Lillian is fretting (and hitting the gin and fags) as Matt will be "working" with the lovely Annabelle again...

moodlumthehoodlum · 18/05/2008 08:29

ooh lovely thank you. I'm going to try and farm everyone out of the house for 10 and enjoy a week's worth in peace!

sophiewd · 18/05/2008 08:34

The actress who plays Shula is so nice in RL

AnnainNZ · 18/05/2008 08:40

I'm sure she's lovely. She's married to the actor who plays Brian, I believe.

Still don't like the character

Tallis · 18/05/2008 08:43

I find Roooooth annoying because of her massively phoney Geordie accent. It's just so bad. I once heard her doing some other prog on R4 in her normal voice, sounding very Home Counties.

sophiewd · 18/05/2008 08:45

Can't stand her character either

Threadwworm · 18/05/2008 09:45

It's not phoney, is it? She is from the North East. Not Geordie, though.

mymblemummy · 19/05/2008 02:10

I loathe Ruth. I think it's the whiny voice.

I so hoped she was going to run off with Sam the cowman, and never, ever come back.

Mind you, I did enjoy the great declaration of passion in the cowshed with the Greek chorus of cows in the background. Remember it?

Sam: "Ruth, this thing is bigger than both of us."

Cows moo portentously.

Ruth: "Ah nooo."

Cows moo in even more doom-laden fashion.

I don't know why I love The Archers when I end up making rude comments to most of the characters, especially the Archer family.

Should be The Grundys.

leosdad · 19/05/2008 10:51

Abigail

leosdad · 19/05/2008 10:54

Only joking - has to be Susan.

MargaretMountford · 19/05/2008 11:07

susan !

MargaretMountford · 19/05/2008 11:10

I dislike all the children too because they are crap actors..young farmer Pip, Ruaridhhh, Josh, Jamie and especially Daniel who has a very odd accent

Threadwworm · 19/05/2008 13:25

If it was any other prog in the history of radio or TV, the child parts would be voiced by the woman who plays Shula, She pops up everywhere as 'Voice of Child'.

MargaretMountford · 19/05/2008 14:03

yes, she was Rupert Bear's voice once I think and that drove me demented...I wonder who did the voice of Soo in Sooty ?

WendyWeber · 19/05/2008 14:04

I think she used to voice Elizabeth as a child - dunno if she ever had to have conversations with herself though

moodlumthehoodlum · 19/05/2008 17:36

Talking of which, I think Clarry is one of the voices in "bottle top bill & and his best friend corky", a classic children's programme on early sunday morning on milkshake.

Teaandcake · 23/05/2008 13:23

Only just found this. Brilliant! I don't know anyone in RL who listens to The Archers.

I can stomach most characters except Roy and Shula. I always thought she wrote the anon letter to the Bishop aaages ago and now it has come back to bite her on the arse (hope so).

Love Lillian, Hayley, Ian and Brian (he is such a bastard).
